Woods players help Middlesex to title

Northwood's Ryman Youth League team had two players in the Middlesex FA Under 18 side which defeated the London FA 5-0 at Thamesmead Town on Tuesday evening to win the South-East Counties Youth Championship title, so our congratulations go to Jamie Doolan and Conor Hynes!

Well done also to Will Holland, who has captained the Middlesex Under 16 side this season; they currently are joint top, and await the final game which will decide the champions. Woods' youngsters Phil Daniels and Daniel Walsh have also featured in the Under 16s squad – so a great success for our players coming through to County level, which augurs well for the future of Northwood FC!

Three awards for keeper Berkeley Laurencin

The club's awards and presentations event was held at the clubhouse last night, and the trophies were handed out as usual.

For the second season in succession one Northwood player dominated the annual presentation evening and this time it was the consistent performances of star goalkeeper Berkley Laurencin that saw him earn the three top prizes. Both the Manager's Player and the Players’ Player of the Year awards were close between the Woods stopper and the ultra-consistent Andy Lomas, but Laurencin ran away with the Supporters’ Player of the Year trophy, with 90% of the first place votes. It was a great achievement for the 26-year-old goalkeeper who originally joined the Woods on dual-registration from Hendon but signed permanently last summer.

Woods Under 18s narrowly lose to QPR

Northwood's Under 18s have enjoyed a good solid second half to the season in the Ryman Youth League, finishing in fifth place ahead of the Academy clubs of Aldershot Town and Wingate & Finchley, while Hayes & Yeading took the West Division title.

Yesterday evening the lads' efforts were rewarded with a home friendly against Queens Park Rangers Under 18s, managed by Paul Furlong. The Northwood youngsters put on a great performance, holding a strong side from the Barclays Premier League club to a 1-1 scoreline at the break - Jamie Doolan netting for the Woods. QPR grabbed the winner in the second half, but the Northwood side can be very proud of their efforts. The match report and photos are here.

Managers Garry Moriarty and Richard Elderfield have overseen a growing confidence amongst the squad and next season a good number of them will have another year for the Ryman Youth League side, whilst many of this year's successful Under 16s team will be looking to make the step up, too. Next season should be a good one at Under 18s level for Northwood.
