Smash and grab defeat!!

Despite dominating the play in yesterday's Calor League fixture at Chestnut Avenue, Northwood crashed to a single goal defeat at the hands of Beaconsfield. There were several former Woods players in the visitors' squad, and it was the anticipated feisty encounter.

With Beaconsfield keeper James Reading making several fine saves, including a penalty stop from Michael Murray, the Woods failed to make the most of their openings, then Jon-Jo Bates grabbed a close-range winner with eight minutes left.

Northwood and Kettering share the points

The Woods shared the points with Kettering Town in last night's Calor League fixture at Chestnut Avenue, which ended goal-less as Mark Burgess's side kept a second successive clean sheet.

With both sides chasing end-of-season play-off berths, an entertaining good quality encounter was enjoyed by the 155-strong crowd. Kettering pushed forwards from the start of the match, but Northwood countered strongly. After the break the home side went close several times, but neither team could break the deadlock as Kettering extended their run to 20 league games without defeat.

NFC committee agrees significant changes

At the club’s committee meeting on Monday evening, 3rd March, following discussions around the club’s future, it was agreed that it will undergo significant changes, including a refurbishment. It is hoped that by doing this and investing in our future in this way will bring back the "crowds" to the club.

Chairman Ian Barry commented: “Lots of ideas were put forward, and there will be an initial consultation with the Local Authority and club ‘members’ around the best way to do move ahead with the refurbishment. I have already spoken to a local builder and have ideas, but if anyone in the club can help with any aspect of the refurbishment, especially in terms of time, materials, ideas and even any additional finance, this would be most welcome and appreciated.

“I believe we have to change with the times, and it is my vision to have a club that will finally become sustainable, not just for today, but for future generations. It needs to be multi-purpose and encourage more usage from the local area, as well as from people already associated with us.

“If you feel you can help in way, please, in the first instance, contact me by email at chairmannfc@hotmail.co.uk, indicating your skill set and your availability.”

Woods just hold on for victory

Northwood just managed to take the points from this afternoon's Calor League game at St Ives Town, running out 5-4 winners. But the Woods had led by four goals against ten men just past the hour mark, before on-loan substitute Matty Walters grabbed a ten-minute hat-trick.

The visitors took a second minute lead when Karl Oliyide flicked home a header, and he grabbed the second on 38 minutes. Early in the second period Dave Lawrence netted the rebound after his own penalty had been saved - following a handball on the line which led to St Ives being reduced to ten men. In the 64th minute Jerome Federico made it 4-0, and although the home side pulled a goal back, Giles Townsend headed home a corner on 70 minutes. Then came Walters' trio, but Mark Burgess's men just hung on for the victory. Full match report is here.

Northwood reserves beat Berkhamsted 2-1 in the Suburban League at Chestnut Avenue, Ronnie Blagden and Steve Ward finding the net for Dave Fox's side: photos from the game are here.
