FA Trophy interest ended for another year

The Woods' interest in the F.A. Trophy ended at an early stage once again, as Bedford Town ran out 3-1 winners at Chestnut Avenue this afternoon in a first qualifying round tie.

Northwood trailed from the 35th minute when Serigne Mor Diop put Bedford ahead, a lead which they extended ten minutes into the second period, Bilal Yafai converting a spot-kick.

The home side pressed to get back into the game, but it wasn't until the 87th minute that Niko Muir fired home to raise their hopes - hopes that were quickly dashed two minutes into stoppage time when the Eagles claimed their third goal, albeit one that looked suspiciously offside.

The report and photos are here. Woods' reserves were defeated 3-1 at Kings Langley in a Suburban League fixture, to complete a miserable few days for the club's teams - the Under 18s went down 2-0 to Hendon on Thursday evening; report here.

Potters Bar are just edged out

The Woods gained their first home victory since August when they ran out 2-1 winners against Potters Bar Town in an Evo-Stik Southern League fixture this evening at Chestnut Avenue.

Louis Stead got Woods off to a flying start with a goal inside two minutes, and Max Holland made it 2-0 with nineteen minutes gone.

But Potters Bar got back into the game courtesy of Chris Doyle's 35th minute strike; however, although both sides had further chances either side of the break, there were no more goals. The match report is here.

Three goals and three points at Leighton

Two Louis Stead goals from free-kicks and an early strike from Niko Muir helped the Woods to a 3-0 Evo-Stik Southern League victory away to Leighton Town in a Central Division fixture this afternoon.

Muir put Mark Burgess' side ahead with just seven minutes on the clock, and on 20 minutes Louis Stead made it two with a well-struck free-kick. After the break Stead wrapped up the three-goal win with an even better free-kick, to leave Northwood in tenth place in the table. The match report and photos are here.

Northwood reserves also had a successful afternoon, beating Biggleswade United 1-0 at Chestnut Avenue in the Suburban League, Ethan Sennett scoring the winner midway through the first half.

Midweek success for Northwood teams

This has been a successful midweek for Woods’ reserves and Under 18s teams!

On Tuesday evening, Dave Fox’s second string defeated the first team from Rayners Lane – going well in Hellenic League Division One – 2-1 in the first round of the Middlesex Premier Cup. Josh Lambe opened the scoring on 25 minutes, and nine minutes later Alex Delasalle grabbed a second. Lane pulled one back before the break, and although the visitors pressed strongly in the second half, the Woods defended well and progressed to the quarter-finals – where they will travel to Staines Lammas 1st XI or North Greenford reserves.

And last night, the Under 18s bounced back from two disappointing reverses to win 3-0 at Ashford Town in the Ryman Youth League. A Charlie Carroll header gave them an interval lead, with Michael Brown and an own goal following a Freddie Buckley cross completing the scoring. The match report is here.

Bedford Town are narrow winners

Northwood were perhaps harshly treated by the match officials at Chestnut Avenue this afternoon when they went down 2-1 at the hands of Bedford Town in an Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central fixture.

The visitors' second goal was allowed to stand despite appearing clearly offside, whilst Mark Burgess' later effort was ruled out for that offence - but the player-manager's goal actually appeared legitimate! No doubts, though, about Bedford's opening strike, a neat finish by Christian Lester. Woods did eventually score - but Michael Murray's close range strike five minutes into second half stoppage time wasn't enough to claim a point.

The match report will be available later. The full colour matchday programme is still available to purchase from our publications section.

Northwood have been drawn at home to Chalfont St Peter in the second round of the Red Insure Cup, to be played on Tuesday 10th November.

Woods reserves drew 2-2 at Camberley Town in a Suburban League fixture, Jerome Eusebe and debutant Kildane Tesfu scoring the goals.

Northwood's Red Insure Cup spot-kicks win

The Woods won through an exciting penalty shoot-out at Ware this evening to progress to the second round of the Red Insure Southern League Cup! Ware lead twice in the game, with Michael Murray (penalty) and Andy Lomas levelling on each occasion.

Berkeley Laurencin was Northwood's star in the penalty competition, the custodian making two fine saves. Andy Lomas, Joakim Ehui, Niko Muir and Louis Stead were Woods' successful penalty takers as they won by a 4-3 margin. The match report is here.

Northwood's Under 18s had a torrid time of it in their Ryman Youth League fixture at Staines Town last night. Two goals down and reduced to ten men early in the game, they trailed by six at the break, but a battling second half display saw the Woods youngsters concede just once more as they lost 0-7. The match report is here.

Woods back to winning ways

After eight weeks without winning an Evo-Stik Southern League game, Northwood returned home from today's trip into Hampshire with a 3-1 victory at Fleet Town, who were previously unbeaten at home.

After dominating in the first half, the Woods went ahead a minute after the break when Louis Stead fired home. And a few minutes later Max Holland touched in Jon Munday's header to put the visitors two up.

A harsh penalty award on 58 minutes presented Fleet with a chance to get back into the match, which Ben White accepted with the spot-kick. But the Woods wrapped up the points with Max Holland's second goal of the afternoon in stoppage time. The match report is here. Next up for Northwood is a mouth-watering game at Ware in the Red Insure Cup on Tuesday evening.

Woods' second string drew 1-1 with Kings Langley at Chestnut Avenue in the Suburban League, Dave Carty netting the goal. Northwood's Under 18s went out of the F.A. Youth Cup on Thursday evening, when two goals in each half eased St Albans City to a comfortable victory at Northwood Park; the match report is here.

FA Youth Cup at Northwood tonight

The Woods are in FA Youth Cup action this evening when they take on Conference South club St Albans City at Northwood Park in a second qualifying round tie which kicks-off at 7.30 p.m.

The Ryman Youth League squad is managed by Garry Moriarty, Richard Elderfield and Mark Fox, with the administration of the team managed by Tom Holder. It is virtually a new youth squad this season as many of last year’s side have either gone to university or moved up to the reserves and first team squads.

The current squad is developing very well, with many of the lads having come through the Northwood youth set up: Pearse White, Louis Moriarty, Michael Brown, George Adams, and Ross Golding remain from last season’s squad, being supplemented by players coming through from last season’s Sunday Under 16s team, including Phil Daniels, Will Holland, Freddie Buckley and Ben Spires.

Northwood drew 2-2 with St Albans in a pre-season friendly in early September, so will be hoping to improve on that result tonight; the prize for the winners is an away game in two weeks’ time against Hayes & Yeading, who won 1-0 at Wealdstone on Tuesday evening. In the previous round, the Woods defeated Ashford Town 2-0, whilst St Albans saw off North Greenford with a 5-3 margin.

Please get along to Northwood Park to support the team this evening; admission costs £4 adults, £2 concessions, with Under 16s free.

Niko strike wins Trophy replay for Woods

A Niko Muir goal five minutes before the interval - his first since returning to the club - enabled Northwood to make progress in the F.A. Trophy this evening, the 1-0 victory seeing off Potters Bar Town in a Preliminary Round replay.

As on Saturday, it was a close-fought game against fellow Evo-Stik Southern League opponents, but Mark Burgess' side can now look forward to a First Qualifying Round tie at home to Bedford Town on Saturday 31st October - two weeks after the clubs meet at Chestnut Avenue in a Central Division fixture. Tonight's match report will be online later.

Late goal earns F.A. Trophy draw

An equaliser from Jon Munday two minutes into stoppage time earned the Woods an F.A. Trophy Preliminary Round replay against fellow Evo-Stik Southern League Central Division club Potters Bar Town at Northwood Park today.

Former Northwood striker Dave Lawrence had opened the scoring for the visitors in the first minute of the tie, and despite Woods enjoying the lion's share of the play, they couldn't find the net - until that late, late leveller. The match report and photos are here.

Woods' second string were beaten 2-1 away to North Greenford in a Suburban League fixture, Michael Elderfield on target for Northwood.
