Northwood are beaten at Ware

Looking to bounce back from Saturday's F.A. Cup exit, the Woods' disappointing recent run continued as they were beaten 2-0 at Ware in an Evo-Stik Southern League fixture this evening.

The home side took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Joshua Oyibo, before wrapping up the points with Kieran Bishop's goal in the 65th minute. The match report is here.

Young Woods keeper plays for Arsenal

Northwood Reds Under 8s goalkeeper Jordan Butcher was selected to play for Arsenal Academy in their first away game of the season against Manchester City.

Jordan travelled up to Manchester on the official Arsenal bus along with all his team-mates to compete at City’s brand new purpose-built complex.

Woods youngster Jordan was outstanding in his first season at Northwood, picking up Manager’s Player of the Year and has now been rewarded with a place at the prestigious Arsenal academy. Good luck to Jordan!

Woods go out of the Emirates FA Cup

Despite taking the lead inside the opening three minutes of this afternoon's Emirates F.A. Cup second qualifying round tie against Didcot Town, Northwood managed to go out of the competition after spurning a host of chances.

With manager Mark Burgess again absent, former Watford star Jamie Hand took charge of the squad, and a great Joakim Ehui run set up Michael Murray to fire home with just two and a half minutes on the clock.

But Didcot levelled with a headed goal on 17 minutes, and despite the Woods looking the better side, they couldn't get back in front. Then after the break, poor defending let the visitors in for what proved to be the winning goal in the 57th minute. Several chances went begging in the last half hour, and yet again, Northwood's interest in the national competition ended all too early.

The match report and photos are here. The reserves' Suburban League game at Camberley Town was abandoned due to a serious injury to Woods' striker De Andre Johnson, to whom we send our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

New-look programme launches for Cup tie

This Saturday’s Emirates F.A. Cup tie against Didcot Town marks the launch of the new-look Northwood matchday programme, which is now under the control of a new editor. With Ken Green standing down after ten years in the role with several more in an earlier spell, Terry Brumpton has now taken up the reins.

Terry’s company, JJ Sports Promotions Ltd., has printed the Woods programme for the past couple of years, and the club has now reached agreement for them to both edit and produce the publication going forwards. JJ Sports Promotions currently provide full editorial, print and design services for Wrexham, Forest Green Rovers, Torquay United, Tamworth, Stourbridge, Ossett Albion and Port Talbot Town; in total they produce programmes for 35 clubs from all over England, Scotland and Wales - from the Football League to way down the pyramid system.

Producing the full colour glossy programme continues to be an expensive exercise, particularly in the light of the Woods’ regular attendance figures, so the club are keen to attract sponsorship for the publication. If either you, or a business you know of, are interested in backing the club in this way, please contact secretary Alan Evans on 07960 744349.

The matchday programme will be on sale at Saturday’s F.A. Cup tie in the clubhouse and at the turnstiles, priced £2: don't miss it!!

FA Cup tie for Woods this Saturday

Northwood return to Emirates F.A. Cup football this Saturday, when they meet Didcot Town in a second qualifying round tie at Chestnut Avenue. Didcot, members of the Evo-Stik Southern League South & West Division, met Woods in the Hellenic League for five seasons in the early-1980s. Northwood won six and drew one of the ten meetings between the clubs - a good omen maybe?!!

The Woods' best ever F.A. Cup campaign to date was in 2000-01, when we got to a fourth qualifying round replay, but with a tie against Reading at the Madejski Stadium at stake for the winners, Northwood lost 0-1 to Grays Athletic. Didcot Town's best run in the competition to date also saw them reach the fourth qualifying round just once - in 2012-13 they were defeated by the same score at that penultimate stage by Arlesey Town.

To reach this stage of the F.A. Cup, Northwood have beaten Aylesbury United 2-1 and Harrow Borough 1-0 in a replay, whilst Didcot Town won both of their ties by 4-3 margins, against Wantage Town and VCD Athletic, the latter in a replay.

It should be a cracking game on Saturday, so make sure that you get down to Northwood Park to enjoy all of the action!!

Northwood are well beaten at Beaconsfield

Northwood's return to Evo-Stik Southern League football this afternoon following the midweek F.A. Cup success was disappointing indeed, as they crashed to a 1-4 defeat at Beaconsfield.

It was a sub-standard performance from the Woods, and one can only hope that they were all saving themselves for next weekend's cup-tie! Beaconsfield were very worthy winners, with Northwood's consolation coming from substitute Perry Dicker's header two minutes into stoppage time at the end of the game.

The match report and photos are here. Woods reserves had a good 1-1 draw against Boreham Wood - whose first team play in the Conference National - in the Suburban League Cup today, Jermaine Heron on target for Dave Fox's squad.

Late goal wins Emirates FA Cup replay for Woods

A stoppage time goal from substitute Myles Stephenson won this evening's Emirates F.A. Cup first qualifying round replay for Northwood away to Ryman League Premier Division neighbours Harrow Borough!

The striker converted Joakim Ehui's cross one minute into added time at the end of the game to put the Woods into a home second qualifying round tie on Saturday week. In that they will face Didcot Town, from the Evo-Stik Southern League South & West Division; the Oxfordshire outfit also netted in injury time to win their replay tonight - they defeated VCD Athletic 4-3. The match report is here.

Woods play FA Cup derby draw

The Woods face a midweek replay in the Emirates F.A. Cup after this afternoon's local derby first qualifying round tie against Ryman League Premier Division Harrow Borough at Northwood Park finished in a goal-less draw.

Northwood perhaps just edged the game overall, with Boro keeper Ben Goode making two fine saves to ensure that his side stayed level, and the replay will take place at Earlsmead on Tuesday evening, kick-off 7.45 p.m.

The match report and photos are here; the full colour matchday programme can still be ordered online from our publications section. Northwood reserves were beaten 3-0 at Aylesbury in a Suburban League North Division fixture today.

Woods back on FA Cup trail on Saturday

Having won at Aylesbury United in the last round, Northwood are back in Emirates F.A. Cup action this Saturday, when they take on near-neighbours Harrow Borough, of the Ryman League Premier Division, in a first qualifying round tie at Chestnut Avenue.

The Woods' best ever F.A. Cup campaign to date was in 2000-01, when we got to afourth qualifying round replay, but with a tie against Reading at the Madejski Stadium at stake for the winners, Northwood lost 0-1 to Grays Athletic.

Harrow Borough have reached the competition proper on a few occasions in the past, their best run coming in the 1983-84 season, when after winning 1-0 at Yeovil Town in the first round proper, they took on Newport County at Earlsmead in the second round; the then Football League Division Three outfit won the tie 3-1.

It should be a cracking game on Saturday, so make sure that you get down to Northwood Park to enjoy all of the action!!

Barton Rovers hold Woods to a draw

Despite taking the lead after just 37 seconds, the Woods were held to a 2-2 draw by Barton Rovers in an Evo-Stik League Southern fixture at Chestnut Avenue this afternoon.

Young winger Max Holland fired Northwood ahead from 18 yards in the first minute, only for Rovers to get on level terms in the 38th minute when the linesman unconvincingly indicated that Alex Condon's effort had crossed the line.

But Woods were ahead again within a few minutes with a cracking Louis Stead volleyed goal, and the home side had a string of chances to make the game safe; however, the Bedfordshire outfit took a point due to Claudio Dias' goal.

The match report and photos are here. The full colour matchday programme can still be ordered online from our publications section.

Under 18s lose in opening league game

The Woods' Under 18s were beaten 3-1 in their first Ryman Youth League fixture of the season this evening, as they were defeated by reigning champions Hayes & Yeading United at Chestnut Avenue. Hayes took a two-goal lead but Louis Moriarty pulled one back before halftime. However, the visitors wrapped up the points with a third goal within minutes of the restart. The match report is here.

Two days ago the youngsters played their final pre-season friendly at Merchant Taylors' School, the game against St Albans City ending in a 2-2 draw. Jamie Roche levelled a 20th minute goal from St Albans, and George Adams put Northwood ahead before City equalised near the end. The match report is here.
