Rugby just come out on top
Northwood's recent excellent unbeaten Calor League run came to an end this afternoon at the hands of third-placed Rugby Town, who claimed the points with a 4-2 verdict.
But it could have been so different, as the Woods hit the bar inside the opening thirty seconds, then Dave Lawrence's sixth minute header put them ahead. The visitors dominated the early exchanges, forcing a string of corners, but two goals midway through the half put Rugby ahead.
Town scored again before the break, but Northwood wouldn't lie down and they battled strongly back in the second half, going close several times before top scorer Niko Muir fired home a penalty. But with ten minutes left, a fourth Rugby goal clinched the points, when overall perhaps a draw would have been a fairer reflection of the ninety minutes. The match report and photos are here.
Woods reserves went down 2-0 to Tring Athletic in the Suburban League at Chestnut Avenue today.

Woods hit back to win at Egham
Northwood were two goals down after just fifteen minutes in this evening's Calor League fixture at Egham Town, last season's Combined Counties League champions. But Mark Burgess's side hit back powerfully to run out 4-2 winners!
Egham took an early lead and added to their advantage on 15 minutes, before Dave Lawrence netted just before the interval after being set up by Karl Oliyide. Just before the hour mark Oliyide levelled for Woods, then on 70 minutes Lawrence shot home his second of the night. And with eleven minutes remaining, top scorer Niko Muir wrapped up the points when he fired home number four.

Late goal ends Woods' winning run
A 95th minute Royston Town equaliser ended Northwood's winning sequence in this afternoon's Calor League fixture at Garden Walk, which ended in a 2-2 draw, the goal coming from a very dubious free-kick awarded by the referee.
But the shared spoils were probably a fair result, with third-placed Royston twice coming from behind. After George Nicholas had cracked a 20-yarder against the inside of the post on the stroke of half-time, it took Woods just 32 seconds after the restart to go ahead. Under pressure from Dave Lawrence, a home defender sent the ball past his own keeper, and although Royston levelled in the 82nd minute, Niko Muir fired Northwood ahead again within seconds. And it looked to be the winner until the late, late leveller well into an excessive stoppage time period; no doubt the referee knew what he was doing.
The match report and photos are here.
Harry Smart and Eric Nyarko were on target as Woods' second string beat 2-1 Harefield United in their Suburban League Cup second round first leg tie at Chestnut Avenue.

Woods hit three past St Ives
Northwood produced perhaps their best performance of the season as they deservedly extended their winning streak to six matches, putting Cambridgeshire outfit St Ives Town to the sword with a 3-0 victory in their Calor League fixture at Chestnut Avenue this afternoon.
Michael Murray put Woods ahead when he curled a 27th minute free-kick into the top corner, and nine minutes later Niko Muir added the second. Top scorer Niko made it 3-0 from the penalty spot on 86 minutes after Karl Oliyide had been upended, to round off an excellent display from Mark Burgess's team.

Volunteers urgently needed!!
At some stage over the next week, the club urgently needs a number of people to come down to the ground and make sure that we are in a position to renew our current ground grading certificate.
There is a bit to do! The new seating that is arriving from the Olympic Park Aquatics Centre should be on site, so the broken or vandalised seats in the main standneed to be replaced. Various other work is needed, including attention to the turnstile areas, perimeter fencing to be replaced, plus a general tidy-up: sweeping, cutting the grass areas etc.
If you can lend a hand for a few hours now and again over the next few days, now is the ideal time to become that volunteer, so please let Alan Evans (07960 744349) or Ian Barry (07956 121300) know that you can help and that we can get you involved. The grading visit is scheduled for next Friday, 15th November – please help where you can.

Experienced goalkeeper Sherman saved a penalty on his debut at the weekend, and has been playing in Israel recently, having been called up for the Maccabi Games this year. He has played for Hapoel Haifa, Kiryat Ata, Ironi Tiberias and Hapoel Marmarek before a short spell with London Lions last season.
Young forward
Oliyide was at Oxhey Jets as a youngster and then progressed through the Reading FC Academy before being released last summer. He joined Northwood following a short spell in Iceland.
