Late winner sees off Uxbridge

The Woods came from behind to beat old local rivals Uxbridge at Northwood Park last night, Karl Oliyide heading the winning goal in the 90th minute of the Calor League clash. The win lifted Mark Burgess's side into fifth place in the Central Division, their highest so far this season.

The close-fought encounter saw the sides evenly balanced through the first half, and the visitors went ahead five minutes after the restart. But Dave Lawrence slotted home the equaliser within sixty seconds, and after Woods had a goal ruled out in the closing stages through a narrow offside call, Oliyide's header from a corner won the points for Northwood.

The match report will appear later; the full colour matchday programme can still be ordered online from our publications section.

On This Day...

The "On This Day" feature in the Woods Matchday Programme is a popular one with the long-time Northwood supporters, as they are prompted to recall games of yore.

We are now introducing "On This Day" as a regular feature on the club's Twitter feed, which you can find here.

Incidentally, on 6th January 1973, Barry Gould hit a hat-trick and Paul Byrne also scored as Woods just managed to beat Bedfont 4-3 at home in the Middlesex League.
