Second half goals beat Woods

Two second half goals - at the beginning and end of the period - were sufficient for promotion-chasing Daventry Town to take the points in today's Calor League encounter at Communications Park, as the Northants outfit maintained their 100% home league record.

The restart after the break was delayed by twenty minutes due to floodlight failure, but Daventry were quick out of the blocks when the game did finally get underway again, finding the net within two minutes. They then wrapped up the points with just a couple of minutes left on the watch. The match report is here.

Woods take the Boxing Day local derby points

Northwood's holiday fixtures got underway this afternoon with a convincing 3-0 victory over long-standing local rivals North Greenford at Chestnut Avenue, despite the Woods being without several players due to injuries, suspension and unavailability - but the youngsters who came into the side did a fine job.

The returning Jerome Federico fired the Woods into a 16th minute lead with a cracking 20 yard drive, and the winger set up Niko Muir for number two on 39 minutes. Karl Oliyide wrapped up the points with a third in the 85th minute, to get Northwood's holiday fixtures off to a fine start.

The match report and photos are here; the full colour matchday programme can still be ordered online from our publications section.

Busy Holiday period for the Woods

Christmas and New Year is traditionally a busy time in the football world, and this year - weather permitting! - will be no exception.

Northwood lose narrowly at Dunstable

Despite leading twice away to top side Dunstable Town, the Woods were narrowly beaten 3-2 in this afternoon's Calor League clash at Creasey Park.

Niko Muir fired Woods ahead from the penalty spot, and although Dunstable equalised - also with a spot-kick - Steve Brown headed them back in front on 35 minutes. But two minutes later the home side were level again, before they scored what proved to be the winner after the break.

Injury-hit Woods brought in Jack Pattison, who has experience at Kings Langley and Wealdstone, and gave debuts to young reserve players Tommy Walsh and Tom Pegrum, with two additional youngsters on the bench; match report and photos are here.

Dave Fox's Suburban League side saw their game against Leighton Town postponed as the Northwood Park pitch was waterlogged.

Woods see off Barton Rovers

Following the midweek break for the County Cup, Northwood were back in Calor League action at Chestnut Avenue this afternoon, and got back to winning ways with a 2-1 success over Barton Rovers, who started the day in third place.

Karl Oliyide put Woods ahead on 28 minutes and Dave Lawrence mde it two with a good strike just before half-time. Bobby Dance pulled a goal back for Rovers just after the hour mark, but Woods saw out the game to collect the three points.

The full colour matchday programme is still available online from our publications section. The match report and action photos are here.

Woods move into County Cup quarter-finals

Northwood moved into the last eight of the Middlesex Senior Cup at Chestnut Avenue last night, coming out on top in a close-fought encounter with Hanwell Town.

But the Woods needed extra-time to see off the in-form Spartan South Midland Leaguers, and they will now travel to Hampton & Richmond in the quarter-final in February.

Karl Oliyide put Northwood ahead after 22 minutes, but Chris Mills levelled nine minutes later; his side had mainly been on the defensive until that point but play was subsequently much more even. With no further scoring within the 90 minutes, extra-time saw Niko Muir fire Woods back in front on 101 minutes, and four minutes later Oliyide netted his second. But Mark Burgess's side still couldn't relax as the prolific Bill Healey made it 3-2 with ten minutes left.

The match report is here.

Farewell Phil

The Football Club were well represented at the funeral of loyal supporter Phil Everett, which took place this afternoon at West Herts Crematorium.

It was good to see a large group of family, friends and former work colleagues gather in the chapel to say goodbye to Phil and listen to a review of his life as well as to the service music of Lady Gaga, Elton John and the closing selection of the Monty Python song "Always Look On The Bright Side of Life"!! Our thoughts remain with his family and close friends.

Christmas help from the Woods

This year Northwood FC would like to help people who have been associated with the club in some way, by making life a little easier for them this Christmas. The Woods have had a couple of financial donations that the club would like to use for this purpose.

So if you know of anyone who has been with the club in some way, past or present, and perhaps have hit hard times or would simply like cheering up, then please drop us a line telling us a bit about that person or family and why a little help would go a long way to make this Christmas special for them.

Of course, we won’t be able to help everyone, but we will decide who we feel needs the help the most. This is something we now want to do each year, and if you are in a position to donate funds to the club to be used in this way, then also please let us know, as we are hopeful that it will make a difference.

Please let us know no later than Saturday 20th December and make sure you email it to: chairmannfc@hotmail.co.uk.
