On a beautiful summer’s evening Northwood’s first game of the new campaign got under way at Ashford Town.

Dave Fox’s team can be very proud of the performance that they put in; the scoreline really doesn’t do justice to the Northwood display.

Having battled well for the first quarter-hour, a disastrous misunderstanding at the back gifted Ashford their first goal in the 17th minute. In a half that saw Woods playing some great stuff, they lacked a cutting edge and were made to pay again 20 minutes later when Ashford were gifted a second goal.

It was quite hard to believe at that stage that Northwood were 2-0 down, as they had looked more than confident when on the ball. Woods could easily have scored twice just before half time but it just wasn’t to be.

The second half saw Woods come out and take the game to Ashford, but again they just lacked a little quality up front . Then once more, Northwood were punished against the run of play when Town went 3-0 ahead on the hour.

Heads didn’t drop, which was great to see, and Woods continued to battle. Three substitutions were made, and Northwood continued to play some quality football to the end.
