The Woods continued their pre-season progress with a 3-0 victory at Spartan South Midland neighbours Harefield United though the scoreline flattered Northwood a little.
It was the Hares who made the early moves with their strike pairing of Richard Pacquette and Lenny Farhall testing the Woods defence which included the latest triallist.
They did hit the woodwork through Pacquette after Farhall had tested Fred Chapman in goal but it was Northwood who grabbed a first-half lead when the industrious Ryan Esprit was upended in the box and George Isaac sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.
The Woods, playing on a grass surface for the first time this season were better in the second-half and they botched two further goals. Firstly some good work by a triallist substitute saw him set up Leon Smith for a good finish and then Jaden Sharman slipped a great ball through and Smith finished clinically for his second.
That’s not to say Harefield didn’t threaten too. Chapman got down low to his right to keep out a Farhall penalty shortly after the second goal and another effort came back off a post late in the game.
Overall it was great to be back with a good crowd of supporters in a proper ground. Next up it’s the first game back at the newly named Fenton Civil Engineering Stadium as the Woods play Isthmian Premier side Potters Bar Town next Saturday. The crowd capacity will be limited to 200 and track & trace will be in place for the game. More details later in the week.
