ELLIS PUSHES WOODS ON TOP
NORTHWOOD 6 NORTH GREENFORD UNITED 0
Martin Ellis hit four goals as Northwood marched to the top of the Middlesex League on Saturday. Nevertheless for all the stunning power of the diminutive Ellis, Northwood's victory was carved from a fine team effort.
The side played with refreshing confidence, right from 'keeper Currell through to the strikers, where Roger Livingstone finally got amongst the goals with two well-taken efforts.
It was Northwood from the start, and their immediate authority stemmed from midfield, where Tidd, Franklin and King sprayed the ball around with great precision. The front three were getting the service they needed and it was only a matter of time before the goals came.
A ball in the box found Ellis on the move and despite three desperate tackles he held his feet to crack in an angled drive. The biggest Northwood headache was North Greenford's offside trap, but Ellis mastered it again with a header to make it 2-0 at the break.
The second half saw the total destruction, of the enemy. Ellis soon completed his hat-trick and it was all Northwood.
King, Ellis and Jones all went close before an Ellis header was turned out to Livingstone to make it 4-0. Jones hit a post, Merison sliced wide and Heslop (twice) and Gould headed over, before Ellis and Livingstone got the goals that underlined Northwood's domination.
