LEGION TOO STRONG IN CUP REHEARSAL
HILLINGDON B.L. 3 NORTHWOOD 0
This thrilling encounter between two sides chasing Yeading for Middlesex League championship honours produced a game that was a credit to football. Legion had to be at their very best to overcome a hard-working Northwood team in this dress rehearsal for the league cup semi-final.
Legion produced their best football of the season in the first 15 minutes, and put Northwood on the rack without forcing the ball home. The early loss of Nigel Franklin with a head injury that required several stitches did not help the Northwood cause. He was replaced by Clifford as Hillingdon trued to move the ball around and retain possession.
Mick Frost was guilty of missing several good chances for Legion, but the home side eventually went ahead when Hills fired home. Frost quickly added a second goal, and Legion were comfortable winners long before they chalked up the third through Burkett.
Northwood: Russell, Hammond, Harman, Gould, Saunders, Tidd, Franklin, Coburn, Cooper, McGowan, Jones, sub. Clifford.
