MATCH REPORTS 1974-75

Saturday 11th January 1975
NORTHWOOD HEAVY ON THE CHARITY
NORTHWOOD 2  LARKSPUR ROVERS 0

Northwood made hard work of beating an inferior Larkspur Rovers side from the Harrow & Wembley League in Saturday’s Harrow Charity Cup tie.

Although they were a class above Larkspur, Northwood never really established their superiority. This was due more to their own lack of discipline rather than Larkspur’s good form.

The Woods began to create chances, but Dibbens and Stone, who formed a  dual spearhead, were unable to capitalise on their chances.

Northwood finally took the lead on 20 minutes when Stone created a chance for the in-form Pearce, who easily outran the defence and placed the ball wide of the stranded goalkeeper.

By half-time Northwood had done enough to sew the match up, but their lack of finishing put the game in doubt until well into the second half.

Larkspur were allowed to push forward after the interval, but Gould and Mills were always able to cope with the danger, while Harland controlled the defence well.

Northwood finally made the game safe when Clarke slipped the ball into the path of Pearce, who made no mistake from six yards.

Northwood: Kessell, Harman, Gould, Heslop, Mills, Pearce, Hester, Roberts, Stone, Dibbens, Clarke, sub. A. Roche.
