Saturday 11th September 1971

LAST MINUTE POINT
NORTH GREENFORD 1  NORTHWOOD 1

Northwood turned in their worst display of the season when they visited North Greenford on Saturday and were lucky to come away with a point.

It may have been the small pitch or the absence of Gould and Madegan, but whatever the reason the Woods never looked like moving into top gear.

North Greenford were no better but for their quick tackling' and first-time clearances. They took the lead in the sixth minute when, following a free- kick, their centre-forward headed home. Greenford continued to dominate the first half.

Northwood's attack suffered from lack of service, but in defence Myers turned in a sparkling display at the back and full-backs Bailey and Harding seemed to be regaining their old form.

In the second half the Woods improved when Millward came on, and he came close to equalising on two occasions.

Then came the dramatic finish when, with seconds remaining, Wordsworth was fouled just inside Greenford's half. Bailey lifted a smart free-kick into the box, and Senior raced in to guide the ball home.

Northwood: Byrne, Harding, Myers, Dibbens, Bailey, Harvey, Taylor, Hickmott, Pearce, Wordsworth, Senior. Sub. Millward.
