27 GOALS IN FIVE GAMES
HANWELL TOWN 1 NORTHWOOD 5
Northwood killed a bogey with Saturday's Middlesex League defeat of Hanwell.
Both teams were rivals in the Harrow and Wembley League and in the past seven years have met on 15 occasions, yet up until Saturday, Woods had just a draw to show for their efforts.
This time things were different. With 22 goals from four consecutive wins behind them, Woods were brimming with confidence.
They attacked from the start with front runners Coburn, Wanless and Senior testing the Hanwell defence.
Steve Senior netted the first goal from 15 yards and this inspired Woods. Although Hanwell replied with a shot against the crossbar, they were never in the hunt.
Ian Harvey had one of his best games of the season in mid-field despite a thigh injury.
Barry Wanless netted the second goal, a glorious one from an acute angle. Paddy Coburn laid on the third with a great wing run and a low centre for Wanless to hammer the ball in his stride.
Although Woods were playing as well as at any time this season they relaxed after the interval and yet the goals still came.
Senior added the fourth, and Coburn kept up his goal a game record near the end.
Northwood: R. Byrne. G. Harding, P. Madigan, W. Burt, B. Taylor, B. Gould, I. Harvey, S. Pearce, S. Senior, B. Wanless, P. Coburn.
