Northwood completed their pre-season programme with a useful workout against Isthmian Premier Kingstonian.

The K’s, under the management of former Woods boss Simon Lane, were the first to show as former Hanwell striker Tom Collins latched onto a neat through ball before lifting the ball over the advancing Andrew McCorkell but over the crossbar.

Northwood were getting into some promising positions with Dan Willams having a shot deflected into the Kingstonian goalkeeper’s arms before Osaretin Otote fired in a shot which ricocheted behind for a corner. At the other end, Iker Leon went close on a couple of occasions – stretching at the far post as he looked to get on the end of a Collins header before he found himself beyond a flat home defence but pulled his shot wide.

But Woods continued to create chances of their own as Williams turned smartly before testing the K’s keeper with a low shot. And it was Woods who opened the scoring on 33 minutes as Teddy Stacey fed Otote who turned smartly before finishing with aplomb.

However, Woods’ lead was short-lived as Luke Tingey was adjudged to have illegally impeded Collins in the box who picked himself up to send McCorkell the wrong way from the penalty spot to level matters on 36 minutes.

Northwood made a positive start to the second period with Riccardo Alexander-Greenaway going close with a header after Stacey combined well with Kofi Anokye-Boadi, Jack Smith sending a freekick narrowly over and Williams shooting narrowly wide.

But Kingstonian had a great chance to put their noses in front as the Woods defence was caught out by a long ball over the top but the K’s trialist found the side-netting as with only McCorkell to beat. And the same player thought he had given his team the lead as he converted from close range but was denied by an offside flag.

Both sides made several substitutions and one of the Northwood replacements, left-back Luke Brophy, sent over a corner which was recycled by Stacey as he played the ball across to Tingey whose low shot nestled inside the near post to restore the hosts lead on 69 minutes.

Both sides continued to tinker with the roll on / roll off substitutions and the changes seemed to benefit the K’s as Collins took advantage of some uncertain defending to grab himself a couple of goals to put the visitors in front with 12 minutes left on the clock.

Woods threatened to restore parity as Tingey’s lofted cross picked out Gallagher in the six-yard box but the latter had strayed into an offside position as he looked to sweep the ball home.

And Kingstonian put a slightly distorted slant on proceedings as Darnell Goather-Braithwaite completed the scoring with a fourth goal for the visitors in the final minute.
