Match Report
by Alan Evans

There was little to like in this pre-season game from Northwood's point of view as they crashed to their first defeat of the campaign.

Admittedly there was little experience in the starting line-up, but Chalfont's clinical finishing, together with sloppy defensive work and some individual errors, allowed the home side to race into a 3-0 lead inside the first quarter-hour.

The Saints scored three goals in just five minutes as the Woods defence was ripped apart, with the only response being a lob from Terry Davies which bounced wide.

The first half was a complete write-off for Northwood, who conceded a fourth two minutes from the break when Liam Sonner scored in his own net while trying to cut out a dangerous cross.

There were six changes at half-time and it certainly steadied things, with Sean Sonner soon having an effect.

But the attacks were a little too frantic. Midfielders wanted to hold onto the ball just a little too long, forwards were offside too often, and only in defence did the Woods suddenly look more assured.

The best chances were for Danny Murphy, wide with a shot from just outside the box, and Sonner, who had one effort ruled out for a marginal offside decision, and then another long-range strike pushed away by the home goalkeeper.
