Kernow win International Exhibition match

It was marvellous to see a crowd back at The Fenton Civil Engineering Stadium - and in the bar! - at yesterday afternoon's International Exhibition match under the CONIFA banner.

A good time was had by all, with a reasonable crowd watching an entertaining 90 minutes' football, as Kernow lifted the trophy with a resounding 8-1 scoreline.

James Brown's photographs from the game are here.

Ben Murray is appointed Northwood first team manager

Northwood FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Ben Murray as their new First-Team Manager with immediate effect.

The 34-year-old UEFA B qualified coach has been Assistant Manager and Head Coach at Southern League Premier side Farnborough since leaving his job managing Isthmian League rivals Ashford Town (Middlesex) in 2019. He had been with the Tangerines for six years and took his side up from the Combined Counties League and went on to establish the club in the top half of the South Central Division as well as achieving some County Cup success. He also runs the Farnborough FC Academy.

Murray will replace Rob Ursell as the Woods manager after the fledgling boss resigned his post a couple of weeks ago to take up a coaching role with now established Isthmian Premier side Potters Bar Town.
Following his appointment on Sunday, the Woods new boss said “I’m really looking forward to getting started at the club. After meeting Ian I can see straight away that the club has great ambition and I am confident that I can match that ambition by the structure that I will put in place in the first team.

“I cannot wait to get started and will be working hard in the next few weeks to get the players that we need that show the hunger and desire to progress the club. We will create a team that plays fast, attacking football but that primarily has a close-knit mentality within the club and play for Northwood Football Club and the shirt.”

Chairman Ian Barry is delighted with bringing Ben to Northwood: “We are delighted to welcome to the club our new First Team Manager, Ben Murray. Ben has managed in this division before and his previous team, Ashford Town (Middlesex), played against us many times. He is someone who I have admired for quite a long time and he brings with him the much needed experience of managing at this level that we desired, and a wide range of players at his disposal.

“Ben was appointed after an extensive and very thorough process from the many applications we had for the job;  it always genuinely surprises me how popular our Manager’s job is when it becomes available. I thank those who applied, which culminated in us holding interviews last Thursday and Friday evening.

“I know Ben will be made very welcome here and, of course, we wish him every success in the role. He shares my passion in moving this club forward after a very difficult couple of years. More will be announced shortly, but for now, this appointment leaves me genuinely excited for the new season at the Woods!”
