Northwood well beaten at Kettering

The Woods crashed to a 3-0 Calor League defeat this afternoon, crisis club Kettering Town being well worth their Central Division victory in front of a crowd of 560.

The Northants outfit, who were playing in the National Conference just two seasons ago but now battling against a winding-up order, led by a single goal at the break, but scored twice more in the second half to deservedly take the points.

The match report is here.

Woods reserves, however moved into third place in the Suburban League North Division with a 2-1 win over Barton Rovers at Chestnut Avenue, Regan Tobun and Harry Smart scoring; the match report is here.

Under 18s lose FA Youth Cup tie in extra time

Northwood's Under 18s suffered a heartbreaking extra time defeat in last night's FA Youth Cup derby clash away to Harefield United.

Defender Eric Nyarko gave the young Woods the lead in the first half, only for the home side to grab an equaliser close to the 90 minutes mark.

Harefield were then reduced to ten men, but then a rash Woods challenge saw the referee point to the penalty spot; the kick was converted and so the Hares move into the second qualifying round whilst Northwood's FA Youth Cup run is over for another year. Match report and photos are here.

Burgo adds to the squad

Northwood manager Mark Burgess moved to add to his squad before last Saturday's home game against Aylesbury, which disappointingly ended in a single-goal defeat.

Burgo brought in keeper Sean Thomas from Hendon; the former Queens Park Rangers man previously had a short loan spell at Northwood Park in 2011. Also arriving were ex Norwich City defender Ramil Sheriff - a regular in the Canaries' Under 21 Development squad last season, and Reece Grant, on loan from Wealdstone. The Stones' striker played for Woods in pre-season, and having now signed a contract at Grosvenor Vale, has returned to Chestnut Avenue on loan.

Aylesbury take the points with narrow win

A solitary first half goal was enough for Aylesbury to take the Calor League Central Division points in this afternoon's encounter at Northwood Park, the Bucks side triumphing 1-0.

The Woods gave debuts to three new players, and the side produced a decent all-round performance without being able to create sufficient chances to manage a breakthrough.

The full colour matchday programme can still be ordered online from our publications section. The match report and photos are here.

The Woods' Under 18s made it four games unbeaten on Thursday night as they defeated Bedfont Sports 4-2 in the Lucas Fettes League Cup, Dave Palmer, Michael Elderfield, Ronnie Blagden and Tom Ellis the goalscorers; match report and photos are here.

Woods crash in local derby

Northwood slumped to a heavy defeat in this evening's Calor League local derby match away to Uxbridge, following a disastrous second half.

Woods took the lead when Niko Muir slotted home on 22 minutes, and although the home side levelled before the break, the two sides were evenly matched at that stage.

But Kevin Warner put Uxbridge ahead on 57 minutes, and a few minutes later Northwood were reduced to ten men when Jon-Jo Bates received a second yellow card. And Uxbridge netted three further goals to run out 5-1 winners. Match report to follow...

Under 18s win FA Youth Cup tie

The Woods' Under 18 side tonight came out on top in their biggest game of the season so far, when they beat Enfield Town 2-1 at Northwood Park in the preliminary round of FA Youth Cup. The tie went to extra time before Northwood progressed to the next round, in which they will travel to Harefield United for the first qualifying round in two weeks' time.

Northwood went ahead on 20 minutes when an Adam Wais cross was headed in for an own goal, and although Woods held their lead at the interval, Enfield levelled on 69 minutes. With no further goals in normal time, a further 30 minutes were played, and in the 104th minute Jamie Doolan headed home what proved to be Northwood's winning goal. Full match report and photos are here.

Late Woods goals sink Hayes

Nothing much happened for 85 minutes at Northwood Park this afternoon when the Woods took on local rivals AFC Hayes, and then three goals made for an exciting finish.

Woods spurned a gilt-edged chance to go ahead midway through the first half when Ryan Phillips missed the target from the penalty spot, but it wasn't until the 86th minute that sub Oliver Sprague fired the home side ahead. Jon-Jo Bates then hit a spectacular second from 20 yards right on 90 minutes, before three minutes into stoppage time a Phillips own goal provided Hayes' consolation.

The full colour matchday programme can still be ordered online from our publications section. The match report and photos are here.

The Woods' Under 18s recovered from a two-goal deficit in their Ryman Youth League game at Bedfont Sports on Thursday evening to draw 2-2, Jamie McKay and David Palmer on target; the match report is here.

Calvin Moses joins Woking

The Woods wish good luck to Calvin Moses, one of our Under 18 players who had already broken into the reserve team squad, scoring goals this season here at Northwood. Calvin is an excellent player with a great future and the youth and reserve team management state that it has been a pleasure working with him.

Calvin was spotted by Woking FC at our first Ryman Youth game of the season and the Conference side made him an offer he could not refuse. It's always a shame to lose quality players to higher league teams but we would like to wish Calvin all the best for the future and hope he does well at Woking. If not, he will always be welcome back here at Northwood Park.
