Woods defeat Beaconsfield in friendly

Following the cancellation of Saturday's planned friendly, the Woods this evening played Beaconsfield Town at Rectory Park, the new home of the Middlesex FA, and ran out 3-1 winners. Louis Bircham and Harry Lodovica netted in the first half, with a trialist adding a third after the break, before Beaconsfield pulled one back. The match report is here.

In the second round of the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup, Northwood will play Hayes & Yeading United, on a date to be arranged. Both clubs had received a first round bye.

Jamie explains why he joined the Woods

Jamie Leacock was appointed Northwood manager yesterday evening, and he told us today why he accepted Chairman Ian Barry's offer to join the club.

"I’m delighted to be joining Northwood Football Club as 1st team manager", he said.

"The club have some great people behind it who have done a brilliant job building superb facilities and are passionate about the football.

"I’ve always had an ambition to become a manager, so it was a no-brainer to take this opportunity when Ian offered me the role and with the experience I’ve gained I believe now is the right time to take that step.

"I’m not under any illusions that this will be a challenging job, but I’m confident that we will turn things around and put the smiles back on the faces of the board, fans and players. I look forward to meeting everyone at this weekend’s friendly."

The first match under Jamie's management is Saturday's friendly at home to Colney Heath, with his opening BetVictor Isthmian League fixture being a trip to Ware on Saturday 2nd November.

Jamie Leacock is appointed Northwood manager

Northwood Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Jamie Leacock as their new First Team Manager.

The 37-year-old started out as a player at the Crystal Palace Academy and went on to enjoy a 14-year career that took in clubs such as Kingstonian, AFC Newbury, Burnham, Thatcham Town and Hungerford Town.

He coached at Reading and then Thatcham Town before becoming Assistant Manager with Bobby Wilkinson as Hungerford Town rose from Step Four to reach National League South. Jamie then moved with Wilkinson to Wealdstone, where their two years in charge included an FA Trophy semi-final and reaching the play-off semi-finals. The pair left Grosvenor Vale in May 2019 and Leacock has decided the time is right to become the number one decision maker here at Northwood FC.

Leacock takes over immediately, and will announce his management team after assessing the current set-up within the club. With no competitive fixture until a trip to Ware on November 2nd, he has plenty of time to assess the squad in the next couple of weeks at training and in Saturday's friendly at the Acretweed Stadium against Colney Heath.

Chairman Ian Barry said "I’m genuinely excited to have Jamie on board with us at The Woods. After an extensive process to appoint what we believe to be the right person to help us achieve our ambitions, Jamie will take the reins with immediate effect.

"The last few weeks have been a particularly difficult period and one which I certainly didn’t foresee at the start of the season. But things went downhill very quickly and I felt I had to act to prevent us being left in the lower reaches of the division at a time when we wouldn’t be able to claw ourselves back. Making this decision now gives Jamie every chance of doing the necessary things to continue the club’s progression and to hopefully push for the play off places. We wish him every success here.

"We do thank Scott Dash for his efforts here; he worked tremendously hard and is a good guy."

Northwood ship four at South Park

The Woods were back in BetVictor Isthmian League action this afternoon after two cup-ties, but they came away with a disappointing 0-4 defeat at the hands of South Park.

The Reigate-based club controlled much of the game, and the result served to show that the imminently incoming new Northwood manager has plenty of work to do. The match report and photos are here.

Fixture alterations for the Woods

There have been a number of alterations to the upcoming Northwood fixture schedule.

The Woods will now play a friendly at The AcreTweed Stadium on Saturday 26th October against Colney Heath, who currently have a 100% record in the Spartan South Midlands League.

Tuesday 5th November sees North Greenford United visit the Woods in the second round of the Middlesex Senior Cup. The home Velocity Trophy tie against Uxbridge has rearranged to Tuesday 12th November, whilst Uxbridge will be back at The Acretweed a week later, Tuesday 19th November, for a BetVictor Isthmian League fixture.

Northwood win at Enfield Town in County Cup

The Woods gained a much-needed victory - and clean-sheet, just the second of the campaign - with a 1-0 Middlesex Senior Cup success in a first round tie away to BetVictor Isthmian League Premier Division side Enfield Town this evening.

The crucial goal came from the penalty spot on 22 minutes after Harry Lodovica was sandwiched by two defenders as he burst into the box. Up stepped Louis Bircham to coolly put away the spot-kick!

The Northwood side included three debutants, one of whom, Alfie Bonfield in goal, made several crucial saves to keep the home side at bay. The match report is here.

In the second round draw, the Woods were given a home fixture versus Spartan South Midlands Leaguers North Greenford United, due to be played on Tuesday 5th November.

Woods go out of the Buildbase FA Trophy

Having been eliminated at the first hurdle of the Buildbase FA Challenge Trophy in the past two years, Northwood made it three in a row this afternoon as they went down 1-4 in their preliminary round tie away to Middlesex rivals Uxbridge.

Despite Alex Witham giving the Woods a ninth minute when he headed in superbly following a brilliant cross from Trey Charles, another poor defensive performance cost them dearly, despite heroics at times from keeper Rob Partington. Northwood did hit the post twice, though, and were unlucky on occasions. The match report and photos are here.

Now Northwood concede eight at Chertsey

The Woods' season went from bad to worse this evening, as they conceded eight goals in a league match for the first time since May 1975.

In a rare midweek BetVictor Isthmian League Northwood were beaten 2-8 away to Chertsey Town, last season's FA Vase winners and Combined Counties League champions.

Ironically, Woods opened the scoring when Sacha M'Baye headed home Charlie Hayford's corner after nine minutes. But that was about as good as it got for Northwood, whose consolation goal was an Alex Witham penalty in the 81st minute. The match report is here.

Waltham Abbey hit Woods for six

Northwood crashed to their biggest home defeat in five and a half years as they got back into BetVictor Isthmian League action this afternoon, Waltham Abbey romping to a 6-1 victory at The AcreTweed Stadium.

The scores were level at the break, Harry Lodovica having equalised a second minute opener for the visitors. But Waltham Abbey cruised to the points as they scored five times in the second half.

The match report and photos are here.

Trey Charles back in a Northwood shirt

Striker Trey Charles has returned to the Woods, having started the season at National League Braintree Town but been injured and was then unable to win a place in the side.

He has just had a short spell at Isthmian Premier side Cheshunt, but now returns to Northwood to get some regular game time. Welcome back Trey!

Northwood Ladies enter Isthmian Women's Cup

This season the club have entered Northwood Ladies into the Isthmian Women’s Cup, and in the first round they appear to have been given a very tough draw against last season’s losing finalists Ashford Town (Middlesex). Ashford lost to Leyton Orient in the final in April.

The tie will take place at The AcreTweed Stadium on Thursday 24th October, kick-off at 7.30pm. No doubt the ladies would appreciate any support we can raise to cheer them on that evening!

Northwood Ladies play in the top division of the Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Women's Football League, in which they were runners-up last season, usually staging home fixtures at Merchant Taylors’ School. You can now check their results and fixtures and current league table on this website.

Much-needed friendly run-out for Woods

The Woods played a friendly on the 3G surface at Hayes & Yeading United last night, with the home side running out 4-2 winners.

With Northwood having had blank Saturdays the last two weeks, this provided a much needed run-out and game time for the squad and a few trialists, one of whom scored a goal; the other came from recent signing Kingsley Eshun.
