QPR keeper Tyla Dickinson joins Northwood

The Woods are delighted to have secured the services of Queens Park Rangers' Under 23 goalkeeper Tyla Dickinson on a month's work experience loan from the Championship club.

Tyla has had previous loan spells with Hendon and Waltham Abbey this season, and impressed with both clubs.

Manager Rob Ursell is pleased to have him with the club for an initial month, with a view to extending that through to the end of the season. He comes straight into the squad for Tuesday’s trip to Marlow.

Romario Hart's goal ends the drought!!

It's been a while since Northwood last won a BetVictor Isthmian League South Central match - but this evening Romario Hart's 32nd minute near-post goal clinched the points for a 1-0 victory against Marlow at The AcreTweed Stadium.

Though it's a grainy photo, we thought it's worth showing you Romario's goal here!

This was a terrific, committed performance from the Woods, with the experienced Dave Thomas marshalling the defence really well, backed by keeper Jamie Stephens. Marlow put on quite a bit of pressure in the latter part of the second half, but Northwood deserved the win and continue to improve in each game under Rob Ursell, moving off the foot of the table with these three points.

The match report is here.

Leaders Ware snatch the points

The Woods produced an entertaining and skilful performance in this afternoon's BetVictor Isthmian League South Central game against league leaders Ware at The AcreTweed Stadium.

And it was a game which saw new manager Rob Ursell's side take the lead through Romario Hart's penalty, and Northwood were desperately unlucky to see Ware hit back to claim a narrow 2-1 victory to maintain their pole position. But this certainly didn't look like a bottom versus top encounter, and there finally appears to be light at the end of the tunnel for the Woods....

Four players join the Woods

Manager Rob Ursell has brought a further four new players into his newly-formed squad this week as the Woods prepare for Saturday's home game against league leaders Ware.

Experienced left-sided defender Dave Thomas has switched to Northwood from Hanwell Town, but the 30-year-old is best known for his two long spells with Uxbridge with over 400 appearances for the club. He is joined by 22-year-old attacking midfielder Luke Jones who has been playing at Chalfont St Peter this season following an excellent campaign with Oxhey Jets the previous year.

The quartet is made up with two young forwards. Radu Stefanoaica came through the youth set-up at Uxbridge and played for the Middlesex County Under 18s representative team last season. He has enjoyed a few successful months with Broadfields United recently and the 18-year-old will be looking to make a successful step-up to the next level. Finally, 19-year-old Excellence Muhemba has had plenty of experience playing for Southern League Premier neighbours Harrow Borough over the last year and also had a spell with Wingate & Finchley.

We welcome all of them to Northwood!

Northwood and Samurai games postponed

The Woods' BetVictor Isthmian League South Central fixture away to Marlow this afternoon has been postponed as the pitch is waterlogged.

And London Samurai Rovers' Middlesex Intermediate Cup semi-final against Southern Amateur League side Norsemen at The AcreTweed Stadium is also off, for the same reason.

Boss Ursell adds a clutch of signings

New Woods manager Robert Ursell added a host of new players to his squad prior to his first game in charge, against Bedfont Sports – which saw no less than seven men making their Northwood debuts.

The Woods boss brought in strikers Romario Hart and Lucas Toti, who is a top-class Brazilian-born Futsal player who will be looking to quickly adapt to the 11-a-side game, whilst Romario, a pacy, strong and creative forward, joined the Woods on dual registration from Chesham United, having played for Hartley Wintney, Colliers Wood and Godalming Town.

Midfield man Bayley Brown originally joined the Woods in 2015, making 32 appearances before moving to Harrow Borough, Staines Town, Hendon, Beaconsfield, and Chesham United. Marcelo Graca, also a midfielder, is an experienced 30-year-old Futsal player who has joined as a player-coach; the Portuguese-born man last played the 11-a-side game a few years ago with Dorking FC.

Boss Ursell added several players to his defensive ranks; Charlie Kuehn is an experienced defender or midfield player who has been a regular Futsal player in recent years and has also had spells with Hendon, Ware and Beaconsfield, whilst Sam Jenkins returns to the club on dual registration with Chesham having won Woods’ Manager’s Player of the Season last year.

Other returnees are left-back Ryan Phillips, who played 51 times for Woods before leaving six years ago for Burnham, Uxbridge, Egham Town, Chalfont St Peter, Chesham United and Broadfields United; the experienced Craig Carby who played a few games on loan from Hendon several years ago, whilst teenage defender Jaden Sharman has signed from Rayners Lane.

We hope they all enjoy their time with the Woods; for more details of all the current squad click here, where you can also sponsor your favourite player!

Promising signs as Rob Ursell takes charge

The final scoreline might not suggest it, but Robert Ursell's first game in charge of the Woods showed many signs of promise, although they ultimately went down 2-5 to Bedfont Sports at The AcreTweed Stadium in a BetVictor Isthmian League South Central fixture this afternoon.

There were seven debutants for Northwood, and the unfamiliarity was evident as Bedfont scored twice in the opening nine minutes. But plenty of quality was shown from the new-look Woods, for whom new boys Romario Hart, Marcela Graca and Lucas Toti looked promising, alongside Eric Lopes, who scored both goals for the home side. With the new manager expected to bring in more new faces over the coming weeks, Northwood will now look to climb away from the foot of the table.

Robert Ursell is appointed Northwood manager

Northwood FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Robert Ursell as their new first-team manager. The 37-year-old takes over with immediate effect and will be in charge for Saturday’s Isthmian League game at home to Bedfont Sports.

Rob enjoyed two spells as a player at Northwood, making a total of 45 appearances and scoring 9 goals as an attacking midfielder over a period of four seasons. He started his playing career at Harefield United and enjoyed a very successful spell in the early days at AFC Wimbledon, also turning out for Carshalton Athletic, Hendon, Walton Casuals, Chertsey Town and Wingate & Finchley. Rob’s remarkable skills also led to England Futsal Caps as well as a spell as a professional Futsal player in Cyprus.

Rob has named Jordan Berry as his Assistant Manager. Jordan, a UEFA B Licenced Coach, played for Harrow Borough, Chalfont St Peter & AFC Hayes amongst others, having been with Plymouth as a youngster. He has been coaching Uxbridge Under 18s.

We extend a warm welcome to the Woods to both Rob and Jordan!

Woods' losing run continues

Northwood were in BetVictor Isthmian League South Central action this afternoon, but their poor results continued as Chertsey Town ran out 4-1 winners at The AcreTweed Stadium.

The Surrey club took a two-goal lead before half-time, and although Eric Lopes' cool finish into the far corner following a pass from Craig Mathieson on 53 minutes gave the Woods hope of a comeback. But those hopes were quickly dashed when Chertsey scored again soon after, before adding the fourth with twelve minutes remaining.

The match report and photos are here.

Next up for the Woods is a crucial visit to fellow strugglers Staines Town on Tuesday evening.
