Woods crash out of FA Cup at first hurdle
Two goals in six first half minutes cost Northwood their hopes of FA Cup glory for another season this afternoon, AFC Rushden & Diamonds of the United Counties League running out 2-1 winners in the Preliminary Round tie at Northwood Park.
Woods should have been ahead after early pressure, Garry Senior delaying and allowing the AFC keeper to save, and then JJ Bates struck a powerful drive against the post. Then Rushden struck on 29 and 35 minutes to lead at the break. Niko Muir pulled one back just after the hour, but despite their best efforts, Woods were unable to get back on level terms.
The match report and photos are here; a few copies of the full-colour matchday programme are still available to order online from our publications section, priced at £2.

Bank Holiday derby win
Mark Burgess' squad bounced back from two successive home defeats with a deserved 1-0 victory in the Calor League local derby fixture at North Greenford this afternoon.
The hard-fought game was won by man of the match Garry Senior's 20th minute goal which followed good build-up play from Jon-Jo Bates and Joakim Ehui, and means that Woods have won both their away league games - without conceding a goal - but have a 0% record at Northwood Park! The match report and photos are here.

Northwood lose to Daventry
The Woods slumped to their second home defeat of the fledgling season this afternoon, when Daventry Town comfortably took the Calor League Central Division points with a 3-0 victory at Chestnut Avenue in front of a mediocre crowd.
Fielding debutant keeper Jake Knight in place of the departed James Reading, Northwood trailed by two goals at the break, and although they improved in the second half, the Northamptonshire outfit added a third goal in stoppage time and now top the table as the only side with the maximum nine points.

It's Rushden in the FA Cup
The Woods will take on fans' club AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the F.A. Cup Preliminary Round at Northwood Park on Saturday week, 31st August, after the United Counties League Premier Division outfit won 6-1 in Tuesday night's home replay against London Colney.
The original Rushden & Diamonds club moved up through the leagues, reaching League Two before dropping back down and financial problems caused their ultimate demise. But the fans' club won promotion last year in their first season, and they are well supported - 546 watched the replay - so hopefully we can look forward to a good atmosphere at Chestnut Avenue next week!

Dunstable take the points
Northwood's opening Calor League fixture of the new season at Chestnut Avenue last night ended in disappointment as promoted Spartan South Midlands League champions Dunstable Town ran out 3-1 winners.

However, Town were level within 60 seconds through Lee Roache. Joseph Bruce made it 1-2 on 52 minutes and former Northwood defender Danny Murphy wrapped up the points five minutes from the end.

Great Woods start to new season
Northwood got off to a great start when the new Calor Southern League season got underway this afternoon, taking all three points from their visit to title favourites Slough Town.
It was a pretty even encounter throughout, with the Woods' winning goal coming from substitute Ronnel Dennis with just three minutes of normal time left to play. The goalscorer was signed yesterday on dual registration with Harrow Borough; what a great start for him!
Northwood reserves staged a brilliant second half fightback when their Suburban League North Division campaign started today. Visitors Newport Pagnell Town led 4-0 at the break, but goals from Aron Ruszel (2), Ronnie Blagden and a Wayne Jackson penalty earned Dave Fox's side a point right at the end. Match report and photos are here.
The Woods' Under 18s had a good 4-1 victory at Berkhamsted in a friendly on Thursday night, ahead of their first Ryman Youth League game at Woking next Tuesday.

New FA Respect video is launched
The FA Respect Programme have today released a new video campaign for Respect that they believe will help clubs in continuing to offer a safe, fair and enjoyable experience of the game.
The FA launched the Respect programme in 2008 in response to behavioural problems at all levels of the game. Since then they’ve campaigned on behalf of the beautiful game and have seen an improvement in on field behaviour, the retention of more referees, a fall in the number of assaults on referees and provided a better environment for children to learn and enjoy football.
However, there is always more work to do, and the new video is a bit different to the previous FA Respect campaigns but really gets the message across. To see the video click here. For more information on the FA’s Respect Programme please visit the FA website here.

Woods' good final pre-season game
Northwood's programme of pre-season friendlies came to an end this afternoon with a tough game against Conference South club Maidenhead United, which ended as a 2-1 victory for the visitors from two steps higher in the pyramid.
The Woods gave a strong showing throughout the game, with plenty of promise for the upcoming Calor League season. Harry Pritchard gave the Magpies a 32nd lead with a cross-shot that deceived keeper James Reading, but sub Oliver Sprague levelled with a fine finish nine minutes into the second period. The game could have gone either way in the final half-hour, but it was Tony Mendy who grabbed the winner for Maidenhead with five minutes left on the clock.
