The Woods Under 18s played out an exciting cup-tie against top opposition when they came from behind twice to win through to the fourth round of the Allied Counties Youth League Cup in a really spirited display by the youngsters.

Abingdon United arrived at The Skyline as leaders of the North Division ahead of unbeaten chasers Didcot Town and Marlow and having won their last five games in succession.

And the visitors led early in this cup-tie, with the Woods conceding in the opening ten minutes, a lead which remained for much of the game.

There was 75 minutes on the clock when Brian McGovern levelled the scores with a real screamer but Abingdon responded almost immediately to regain the lead.

It would have killed off many a side but not this Woods team and with two minutes remaining there was a scramble in the goalmouth and Aidan Tarrant hit a shot that squeezed past the goalkeeper to make it 2-2.

Penalties then seemed likely as the game entered stoppage-time but then Tobi Faleye hit the perfect delivery from a free-kick that was met by Tarrant’s bullet header and Northwood booked their place in the next round.
