Defensive fragilities certainly cost the Woods gaining any points at Maidenhead. Northwood didn’t get off to the best of starts falling behind in the 2nd minute when a sharp Maidenhead striker turned the Woods defence latching onto a ball over the top to lob over the advancing Kieran Sills.
After that, Northwood slowly came back into the game and on 21 minutes Nathan McLeod hit a ball from well over 30 yards looping over the Maidenhead keeper only to hit the underside of the bar to bounce out, and over Stefan Khailat, who was trying to get to the rebound.
The Woods' effort was rewarded on the half hour mark when Stefan Khailat was brought down in the box, he dusted himself off and converted the penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way.
As the game seemed to be level going into half time, Maidenhead took lead. A free kick on the left side was floated into the box and a maidenhead player rose highest to head the ball in the bottom far corner.
Into the second half, the Woods knew if they could get the next goal then they might be able to push on, but were punished when they didn’t learn earlier from the Maidenhead striker, who was again allowed to turn and have a free run on goal and coolly slotted the ball home.
Five minutes later the game was all over, when Maidenhead made it 4-1 on 70 minutes. They quickly switched the ball from left to right, allowing the right midfielder a powerful free shot beating the keeper at the near post.
Northwood nearly got a goal straight away when Stefan Khailat hit a curling shot from outside the box but the maidenhead keeper managed to make a great high diving save.
Maidenhead nearly made it 5-1 in the last minute of the game, however, substitute Lee Edwards managed to make a sliding clearance off the line.
At the final whistle the game certainly didn’t seem to reflect the score line with Northwood certainly putting in the work rate but where punished for making some defensive mistakes.
