RE-ELECTION BLUES FOR WOODS
NORTHWOOD 0  HANWELL TOWN 2

Northwood slipped nearer the Middlesex League re-election zone by handing over two points to fellow strugglers Hanwell on Saturday.

Manager John Myers was very disappointed with the display. The day’s best news was the successful return of Clive Hester and Harry Stone in the reserves. They could be in for an early first team recall.

Both teams were cautious, obviously more intent on keeping the point they had instead of trying to double it to two.

Chances were few, although both teams could have opened their account before half-time. Twice Hanwell broke through and each time Gillon, making his debut in the Northwood goal, did well to save.

At the other end, Dave Metcalfe, Northwood’s most dangerous forward, got through a lot of hard work with no reward.

McDonald replaced Roberts in the second half, and although Northwood controlled midfield it all broke down in front of goal, and gradually Hanwell took control.

McGloin gave them the lead after 65 minutes and five minutes later Hanwell got another and from this point coasted home.

Northwood: M Gillon, K. Harland, J. Byrne, M. Blanch, D. Atherden, S. Pearce; J. Roberts, P Clarke, H. Coulter, J. Vincent, D. Metcalfe. Sub: I. McDonald.
