Steve played a big part in in the club’s initial thrust into senior football, joining the club in 1978 as part of the side that would secure the Hellenic League Division One Championship at the first attempt.

He had previously played for Viking Sports, Yeading and Harefield United. He would then play a role in the next eleven seasons, interrupted only by injuries such as a broken leg, while taking over as player-manager in 1986/87. That finally came to an end when he and Chairman Andy Johnson convinced Alan Merison to take over as manager in 1988. Steve carried on playing for a short while but finally played his last game in a Vase win over Electrolux in September 1988. His company, Skyline Roofing have remained supporters of the club over the years since then.
