John first
played for Northwood in September 1978, playing a
part in securing the Hellenic League Division One
title. He left for a season before returning in
1980 for another two years. John then played for
Harefield United, Staines Town and Southall where
he was a member of their midfield when they
reached the FA Vase final in 1986. So, it was a
coup when John returned to Chestnut Avenue the
following season for a third spell, becoming
assistant manager to Steve Revell before leaving
in 1988. He has since played for Northwood Vets
but also Viking Sports Vets over the years and
still plays regularly.
