The experienced striker joined Northwood as player-coach in August 2007, having played at Hemel Hempstead the previous season, but departed for Chesham before the end of the following month.

John has been a prolific goalscorer throughout his career, which started at Luton Town, and he subsequently played for a number of clubs, including Bishop's Stortford, Hayes, Aylesbury United, Wokingham Town, Berkhamsted Town, Chesham United, Harrow Borough, Boreham Wood, and Waltham Forest.
