Charlie Flaherty, a long-time Wembley defender
who only lived down the road from the Northwood
ground, made just one appearance, playing the
final fourteen minutes against Braintree Town in
November 1996, replacing Tyrone North.
The Woods were leading 2-1 when Flaherty went
down injured in stoppage-time. Colin Robinson
played the ball into touch, Flaherty had
treatment but the usual sportsmanship of
returning the ball was missing. Braintree
launched a long-throw, the Woods were slow to
react and Braintree stole a 2-2 draw!
