Match Reports 2010-11
12th Sept. 2010: Northwood 4 London Maccabi 1
A much better performance this week with the boys slowly getting back into the swing things and some players getting used to new positions. The Woods dominated possession in the opening of the half without creating any real chances. Solid defending meant the away side rarely troubled us at the back. Our eventual breakthrough came after a good flick on from Luke allowed Dan Miles to nick infront of the defenders in the 6 yard box to tuck the ball past the onrushing keeper from close range.1-0 Our second came shortly after when James Fountain jumped superbly to head home a good free kick to extend our lead. The boys played with more confidence and followed up with our third when Adam Rhodes showed good desire to get in to the box and out jump the keeper to head into the net.3-0 Just before halftime Maccabi exerted some pressure down the hill but some brave keeping from Adam Harry kept our sheet clean going into the break.
The second half started with Maccabi applying more pressure and with the Woods defence relaxing at a set piece allowed the away side an easy unmarked goal inside the box. 3-1. The next goal was important now and the team played some good passing football to get back on track and create several chances. We finally put the game to bed with a good passing move that was finished well by Luke B.4-1 As our lack of fitness again showed the team dropped deeper and deeper allowing Maccabi some possession in the final stages but a resolute team performance meant no more goals were scored. Final score 4-1.
It was good to get our first win of the season with the team looking much sharper than we did last week and hopefully we can build on this over the coming weeks. Good performances from several players with Adam Rhodes in a new role, Archie solid at the back and Adam H brave in goal all starring this week.
