Now Ilford game is off

Northwood's Ryman One North game at Ilford this evening is the latest to fall foul of the weather, as the Cricklefield Stadium pitch is waterlogged.

The match has been re-scheduled to Monday 19th April, so the clubs will meet twice within three days, as they also face each other at Chestnut Avenue two days earlier.

The Middlesex Intermediate Cup final tonight, recently moved to Chestnut Avenue, is off as the pitch is also waterlogged. The same fate befell the Under 18s' fixture at Wealdstone.

Redbridge re-arranged

The Woods' Ryman League Division One North game against Redbridge, been postponed last night as the Northwood Park pitch was waterlogged, has been re-arranged for Thursday 22nd April, kick-off 7.45 p.m., and will now be Northwood's last home game of the season.

Next up for Mark Barnham's team is an away game at Ilford on Wednesday evening.

Another draw for thirds

Northwood's third team hit back after trailing 2-0 at half-time away to London Commercial League divisional leaders Southall Rangers on Saturday.

A goal from leading scorer Danny Glock plus an own goal were enough for the Woods to claim a point from a good 2-2 draw.

Romford sneak a win

Northwood slumped to their fifth defeat in a row - for the first time since August 2005 in the Southern Premier League - when Romford fortuitously took all three points from Chestnut Avenue with a 2-1 Ryman One North win this afternoon.

Woods' very young side deserved at least a point, and they started very well, Ryan Tackley firing a 20-yard drive against a post before Will Hudson finished off a great move to put them ahead on 10 minutes.

The visitors came more into it, and scored either side of halftime, but Woods had a Danny Power header ruled out with a marginal offside decision and Anton Lewis missed a sitter from three yards, as they chased the leveller they merited. But it didn't arrive, and Northwood are quickly back in action on Monday night, at home to Redbridge.

Northwood hit for four

Late arrival at the ground due to travel problems did not help the Woods in their Ryman One North game at VCD Athletic this evening, and the kick-off was delayed, before they were hit by three goals in eighteen first half minutes.

Mark Barnham's side fought back gamely, and Anton Lewis pulled a goal back after the break, before the home side wrapped things up with a fourth in the closing stages.

There was a first start tonight for teenager Max Moore, whilst Sam Phillips and Anton Robinson made their debuts from the bench.

Woods slump to Brentwood

Northwood's lowest home attendance of the season on a dismal evening saw a youthful line-up slip to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of a more experienced Brentwood Town outfit last night.

There was a starting debut for Daryl Campbell-Grimshaw as Woods' management again checked a lengthy absence list through injury, suspension and unavailability, but the young home team displayed plenty of promising football without being able to find their touch in front of goal.

Next game is a trip to VCD Athletic tomorrow evening.

Draw for third team

The Woods' thirds drew 3-3 with New Hanford in the London Commercial League on Saturday.

Playing against a side that included former Northwood first-teamer (and ex-QPR youngster) Perry Norman, Mark Stafford scored twice and Danny Glock got the other - they are both now on fifteen for the season.

East Thurrock just edge it

This afternoon's Ryman One North game at Northwood Park was a thriller, as the Woods raced into a two-goal lead through Kyle Matthews in the opening fifteen minutes againsst East Thurrock United.

That was how it stayed until early in the second half, when the Essex promotion-chasers netted three times within seven minutes to take the lead. And when Michael Peacock turned the ball into his own net for 2-4 that seemed to be it.

But Kyle Matthews completed his hat-trick in the 73rd minute, and Northwood had chances to grab the equalier. It wasn't to be - but what an exciting game of football to watch!

Woods lose to single goal

A single goal scored with just over fifteen minutes left to play was sufficient for Potters Bar Town to defeat Northwood in Ryman One North this evening.

Manager Mark Barnham again had a string of players missing through injury, and he will be hoping that some recover in time to face East Thurrock at the weekend.

Woods reserves also lost 1-0 tonight, at home to Basingstoke Town in the Suburban League.

Northwood III drew 2-2 away to in-form Sandgate Old Boys, with Mark Stafford grabbing a brace.

Woods take a Swift point

Battling Northwood took a point from this afternoon's Ryman One North fixture at Heybridge Swifts, which ended at one apiece.

Keeper Mitch Swain, having quickly rejoined the club from Wingate & Finchley, made a return debut in goal - and he protected the point when he saved an 84th minute penalty. Hugo Figueiredo, starting his first league game since October, gave Woods a 19th minute lead, but the home side levelled eight minutes later.

Injury and illness had ruled out Brad Hewitt, Aaron Cato, Bobby Smith, Ryan Tackley and Anthony Page, so there were first call-ups to the squad for reserve team youngsters Max Moore, Jon Daily and Daryl Campbell-Grimshaw.

Woods lose in County semi-final

Northwood gave a disappointing performance this evening in the semi-final of the Middlesex Senior Cup away to Uxbridge.

The home side ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a goal in each half from Ryan O'Toole, and Woods' task was made more difficult in the closing stages with the dismissal of central defender Chris Seeby.

Uxbridge will face Staines Town in the final on Easter Monday.

Thirds take six points

Northwood's third team collected six points from their London Commercial League exploits yesterday.

Playing a "double header" Woods ran out 3-0 winners against TWS in the first game, then hit their opponents with a 6-2 victory in the second encounter.

Sub Hudson wins it for Woods

Young substitute Will Hudson headed Northwood's 88th minute winning goal against bottom club Harlow Town at Chestnut Avenue this afternoon, to maintain new manager Mark Barnham's 100% record.

After a goal-less first half during which Woods failed to capitalise on their dominance, Chris Seeby shot them ahead three minutes after the restart.

But with fifteen minutes remaining Aaron Scott levelled for the Essex side, who looked to be taking a point home - until Hudson's late winner.

It's the Three Marks!!

New Northwood boss Mark Barnham has today completed his management team by appointing Mark Pye and Mark Adams as his coaches - now to be known as the Three Marks!!

The new coaches have an impressive playing background, having both appeared in the Conference, Mark Pye for Hayes and Slough Town, as well as Hendon, Enfield, Harrow Borough and Aldershot Town, whilst Mark Adams' career took him to Harrow Borough, Hayes, Hendon, Chesham United, Slough and Met. Police.

Mark Pye assisted previously, and did a good job, when Mark Barnham had the caretaker role for a period when Colin Payne departed last season, whilst Mark Adams is currently managing Woods' Suburban League team.

Woods' narrow victory over Waltham Forest

Mark Barnham's first game as Northwood manager saw his new charges narrowly see off visitors Waltham Forest 2-1 at Chestnut Avenue last night, but after a close-fought first-half Woods had plenty of chances to have won far more emphatically.

Forest took the lead towards the end of the opening period, but the in-form Aaron Cato levelled after 54 minutes after Kyle Matthews had failed with a spot-kick, then Leon Osei headed what proved to be the winner eleven minutes later.

Next up is another home game on Saturday, against bottom club Harlow Town.

Mark Barnham is the new Northwood boss

Mark Barnham has this morning been appointed as the new Northwood manager following the departure of Dave Anderson, and it is a well-deserved promotion for the man who has previously been the club's reserve team boss, then assistant manager.

"I am keenly looking forward to getting into the job", said Mark. "Dave Anderson has left us in a good position with the play-off places well in sight, and it is my aim to keep the team focusing on that target over the remaining two months of the season. Hopefully we can start with a good result against Waltham Forest tonight."

Dave Anderson resigns

It is with regret that the club has today accepted the resignation of First-Team Manager Dave Anderson.

Chairman Ian Barry said "The last couple of months of bad weather and cancelled games has led to a severe cash flow problem, and with the level of debt that the club has had to manage over the past few years, a decision had to be made to reduce our expenditure.

"Dave was fully aware that the situation was building through regular conversations that we have had, and he has gone beyond the call of duty to help with the implementation of a new expenses structure for the players he now leaves behind."

The experienced former AFC Wimbledon boss took charge of the Woods in December 2008 and turned round the fortunes of an inconsistent side to take them to within a point of the play-offs last season. For this campaign, the club is still on target for a play-off place,  while Northwood also enjoyed their best ever run in the FA Carlsberg Trophy and are also in the semi-final of the Middlesex Senior Cup at Uxbridge next week.

Barry added: "Clearly this not a footballing decision, but one that was agreed for the future of the club as a whole. We part company remaining good friends, and everyone at the club wishes Dave every success for the future. Right from the day Dave started, I have enjoyed a fantastic relationship with him and have the utmost respect for what he has achieved here in a relatively short space of time. I sincerely hope that we get the chance to work together again in the future at some stage. This parting of the ways is far from ideal and Dave should take great credit in the way he has handled this unfortunate situation."

Dave Anderson said: "I have really enjoyed my time at the club and I have great respect for the Chairman and the way he runs the club. Although following conversations about the impending financial re-structure, and with the knowledge that I probably knew I would be parting company with the Football Club after this, I agreed to stay and help implement the changes. I’m sad to leave at this stage of the season, what with our push for promotion and the prospect of a Cup Semi-Final next week, but due to my own personal circumstances and the club’s financial situation, regrettably this was the only decision that I could make.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my staff and the players, all of whom have been a pleasure to work with and I wish them and the club every success in the future."

In Dave Anderson's time in charge, Northwood won 35 of their 66 games in league and cups, drawing sixteen and losing just fifteen. 110 goals were scored, with 75 conceded.
