Suburban League changes

Due to the Suburban League losing its Supply League status, the league has changed format for the new season, with just one Premier Division and three regional divisions.

Northwood reserves, now managed by Dave Fox, will play in the North Division, which will include the following ten other clubs: Barton Rovers, Berkhamsted, Chalfont St Peter, Dunstable Town, Harefield United, Leighton Town, Newport Pagnell Town, Royston Town, Southall and Tring Athletic.

New Southern League sponsors

New sponsors for the Southern League were announced at yesterday's Annual General Meeting in Torquay, after Evo-Stik ended their sponsorship a year early.

Calor Gas are the new backers, having agreed a one-year deal, and the league will be known as the Calor League.

However, the compilation of the divisions was not finalised at the meeting, as both Guildford City and Godalming Town have appealed against their placement in South & West Division. The FA met on Friday to hear their appeals but no decision was reached. The case was adjourned and a verdict is expected within the next few days.

Malone makes Watford Legends appearance

Northwood reserves and youth team keeper Garry Malone guested for the Watford Legends team last Sunday, when they played Rod Stewart's Vagabond Old Boys XI at the rock star’s house in Epping. Garry is pictured here with Scotland manager Gordon Strachan, who played in the second half.

And it was not just the teenage Woods stopper who guested for Watford – our first team kit from last season also made an appearance to help the former Vicarage Road stars out!!

Allan Smart scored four goals to help Watford to a 6-4 victory, with Nicky Wright and ex Northwood player Derek Payne also netting for the old Hornets.

Ryman Youth team trials coming up

Northwood’s Ryman Youth League squad are seeking new players, and trials are coming up soon. The midweek under 18 team is for elite youth footballers, and we are looking for talented young players that are seeking to move into semi-professional football.

Northwood is a community standard club with an excellent setup in youth football from Sunday league through to Ryman Youth League.  Players of exceptional ability who join the club will have opportunities to play at reserve team level in the Suburban League and then onto the first team in the Southern League.

Trials will be held on Saturday 22nd June, and if you wish to trial, please phone Richard Elderfield on 07951 702514, or email richnfc@btinternet.com.
