Having enjoyed a bit more of a break since playing twice in three days the previous week, the Woods travelled to play Bedfont Sports, newly returned to Step 4 having come through the Combined Counties League play-offs in May.

After a wet morning, the sun came out pre-match and the Northwood management fielded a strong side in the first half. The hosts had former Woods Golden Boot winner Dan Williams in attack.

But there was bad news early on for the Woods as centre-back Romario Jonas injured a knee when over-stretching for a ball out wide on the right and had to be replaced by a triallist, now named as Chama Torsiello after signing forms later in the week.

It proved a good battle throughout the first half but with neither goalkeeper particularly threatened. Carl Stewart controlled things well in the centre of midfield while Mack Miskin and Kush Thomas-Lewis combined well down the left to create a number of chances. Dylan Kearney had the best of them but was unusually slow to hit the target when presented with the opportunity in front of goal.

The second period finally brought a goal on the hour when Lewis-Thomas burst into the area and was tripped and Kearney stepped up to score from the penalty spot, his third from twelve yards of pre-season to add to one from open play.

Changes were made soon after and it seemed to give the home side a bit of impetus to work their way back into the game. A couple of chances were thwarted with triallist goalkeeper making a couple of saves but the game turned on the award of another penalty on 83 minutes, this time Sports being given the opportunity from the spot after a player appeared to be bundled over at a set-piece. Lewis Flatman tucked that away to level things up.

Just two minutes later the same player was able to take full advantage of the Woods defence going missing to knock in his second and after a flare-up off the ball, Northwood had to play the final stages with only ten men. An unsavoury incident which quite spoiled an enjoyable contest.
