NORTHWOOD’S ELLIS IS THE TOPS
NORTHWOOD 3 HILLINGDON B.L. 1
Martin Ellis emphasised the fact that he is the top marksman in the area when he scored two goals for Northwood in this win over old rivals Hillingdon British Legion on Saturday.
Northwood had to come from behind for this win their first over the Legion for several years. Both sides had their absentees but they failed to show weaknesses as Northwood and the Legion settled down to play attractive football.
Then in the 15th minute Micky Frost proved just what a dangerous player he is when he beat Currell with a first time shot.
A stunned Northwood fought to get back in game, with Ellis and Roger Livingstone causing the Legion defence problems. Northwood were playing some good football with Junior Jones, Tidd and King controlling the midfield, and Glyn Jones adding extra width to the attack.
It was Glyn Jones who set up the Northwood equaliser. He sent over an accurate cross for King, who calmly controlled the ball and slipped it back for Tidd to whip home.
Northwood ran the visitors ragged in the second half, and they took the lead on the hour. Tidd and Ellis worked a one-two that left Ellis free. He saw his first shot blocked by the 'keeper, but followed up to head home.
Then five minutes from time Ellis and substitute Nigel Franklin linked for a great goal. A quick passing movement saw Ellis put Franklin clear as he lost his marker. The goalkeeper came out to plunge at Franklin's feet, the ball ran clear, and Ellis slammed in the rebound.
Northwood: Currell; Heslop, Gould, Merison, Harman, Tidd, King, J. Jones, G. Jones, Ellis, Livingstone. Sub: Franklin.
