Youth Reports 2016-17

5 February 2017

Northwood Reds Reds Under 13s 0  London Maccabi Lions Whites 6

Northwood crashed out of the Quarter Finals of the Challenge Cup to a well organised Maccabi team who play in the division above. The final score is a little misleading to Maccabi as it was quite an even game until Maccabi were awarded a penalty kick in the 22nd minute to go 1-0 up. The boys did battle well but the well drilled Maccabi defence did deal with all that we were trying. Then on the half hour a mix up at the back lead to Maccabi’s second, the score that stayed 0-2 at half time.

John and I told the boys as ever the next goal would be the most important one and Northwood were very much still in the game as Maccabi had only had three real attempts on goal in the whole of the first half in what on the whole had been quite an evenly matched game.

The second half did start in pretty much the same as the first with both teams battling it out in the middle of the park again chances were far apart until another error in the 52nd minute let Maccabi in to make it 3-0. You could see that this did deflate the boys and barely 3 minutes later the Maccabi lead extended to four.

The boys were now really up against a team full of confidence and were battling hard but as they tried to push forward to get a goal that they did deserve got caught out pushing too many forward and Maccabi made it 5-0. It was now clear that we really needed the game to end and it was not far away but there was enough time for Maccabi to make it six. Well done to Zaki who had a very good game in the midfield and got his deserved player of the match.

I think that this is one to forget and put down as a bad day at the office and we will be looking to put some of the mistakes right at training this week, but the boys must all be very proud to get to the Quarter Final of this Cup competition which is no mean feat either so well done for that.

Lineup: Daniel Davey, Rayyan, Ale George Lewis Ryan Arun, Sam, Felipe, Daniel Terry , Lewis Reid, Oliver, Ashley, Dec, Daniel Jago.

Well done to all the boys!
