Match Reports 2011-12

9th Oct. 2011: Croxley Guild Panthers 3  Northwood Red 1

Today we were up against some stiff opposition and Croxley were definitely up for a game. To coin a phrase “it was a game of two halves”. The first half both teams played some great football, creating chances on goal from some fine outfield play, but the second saw the Woods start to lose concentration with a bit of a mix up which allowed The Panthers to dominate more.
First blood went to the Woods with a fine goal being fired home by Louis, in from a great corner taken by James Mangan and flicked on by Harrison. The Panthers were soon to equalise, although it was a rather fortuitous goal to find the back of the net, as it bobbled past a couple of our players and in at the far post. The Woods were playing very well with some great play and athletic running from James Milligan and some staunch defending from Iwan Johnson, always watching and ready to see out most attacks from the Panthers.
Harrison up front was causing the Panthers some problems with his nifty footwork but was unable to convert. Elliot was working hard in midfield but Man Of The Match went to Louis for his great runs down the left and his great goal. All the boys did well today, and despite the loss they all appeared to enjoy the game.
Match Report: PG.

2nd Oct. 2011: Northwood Red 7  London Maccabi Lions Blue 0

At 30 degrees, it was a very hot day on the pitchy, which made playing at two o’clock in the afternoon quite tough. However, the boys once again managed to deliver a very exciting performance. The reds scored an incredible five goals in the first half of the match, followed by another two in the second!  Louis, Elliot and Harrison scored two goals each and the remaining goal was scored by the Lions for an OG. Kieran, Ruben, Iwan and Nathan at the back kept a clean sheet.
The Lions raised their game in the second half but despite a good effort on their part, luck was not on their side. James Milligan and James Fitzgerald both worked hard in the middle of the pitch, with Man of the match going to James Fitzgerald, who deservedly won for his non-stop running, accurate passing and excellent work all round.

Manager's Comments:
This was a great performance today from all the boys in really hot conditions, but things will get harder from here on in. I was really pleased to see everyone holding their positions more and always looking for passing options. This great team performance today has put us on top of our group.
C’MON YOU “WOODS”!
Well Done to you all, Paul.

25th Sept. 2011: Northwood Red 0  Harvesters East 1

A midday kick off saw Northwood up against a well organised Harvesters side, and the game started with both teams having trouble to put their foot on the ball and possession is given up quite easily by both teams. During the first half the Woods applied a lot of pressure, with Elliot Gibbs having a long range shot, but just off target.
Harrison Homan did break free but had his goal bound shot blocked by some staunch defending from the Harvesters. Harvesters applied  pressure on the break and their attacks went close, but for some tenacious defending by Man of the Match Iwan Johnson, preventing any shots from open play.
Due to the committed defending by both sides, a goal was more than likely going to come from a set piece, and hence Harvesters scored from a corner on the right side, a header unchallenged, Woods 1-0 down.
From the restart Northwood continued to apply pressure, but the equaliser just would not come, and the game finished 1-0 to the Harvesters. The boys deserved a goal but with a tight game there was only going to be one goal in the result. Well done boys, great credit.....you worked hard.

18th Sept. 2011: Northwood Red 3  Cassiobury Rangers Blue 0

This  early game saw the Woods up against Cassiobury Rangers, and from the kick off they wasted no time knocking the ball around, keeping Cassiobury on their toes. With the constant early pressure Northwood took the lead with a well worked goal from the left wing. Louis Payne crossed in from the left with Elliot Gibbs poking a nice through ball for Harrison Homan to strike it calmly past the Rangers goalkeeper.....1-0.
Cassiobury soaked up the pressure and the first half finished still 1-0. The second half continued where the first left off, with Northwood dominating the play, and another passing move from Northwood finished on the edge of the Rangers box, where Harrison Homan picked up his second goal with a nice finish across the goalkeeper...2-0.
Cassiobury dug in after the restart and refused to give up, showing great character, but with James Fitzgerald working hard in midfield another Northwood attack saw Louis Payne latching onto a loose ball and finishing with his right foot, unusual for the left winger. Cassiobury dis finish the game strongly, with Northwood goalkeeper and Man of the Match Shae Metha making some brave saves, but the result was a fair reflection of the game.
Well done to all the boys good team result.

11th Sept. 2011:  Aldenham Juniors Pumas 2  Northwood Red 3

KO! The season is underway and riding high on Saturday’s performance at the Headstone Tournament, this week saw us up against new to the League, Aldenham Pumas. The Pumas were however very ready and keen for a game, this showed when we allowed one of their players time and space to put in a well executed cross – shot, which  beat  our keeper as it dropped in over his head, 1-0.
The Woods were playing well, starting to look for each other and playing some nice passing football, which resulted in the inevitable equaliser from Elliot. We continued to play more the same which kept the Pumas at bay, although they looked dangerous on the break. Louis added to our score line with 2 more goals and was always close to getting his hat-trick.
Ruben picked up MOTM for his excellent spell in goal in the second half, pulling off a couple of fine saves, both our keepers Kieran and Ruben had great games in goal, nice and solid. Final score 2-3 to the Reds.
Well done boys, this was a very good performance, with a great result to kick off the season. All the boys played well and enjoyed themselves, which always makes it so worthwhile and enjoyable for me to be a part of.

Saturday 10 Sept. 2011: Headstone Youth Tournament

Our first competitive tournament took us to the home of Headstone Manor Youth, where we managed to not only win our group we did it without losing a game or conceding any goals. This saw us in the semi-final against a very good Pinner United, which ended 0-0, and onto our first penalty shoot out, which we won due mainly to a great display between the sticks from Kieran.

The Final now loomed and we were up against Ruislip Rangers ‘A’, who had also won their group, so we knew we were in for a tough Final. Ruislip looked good from the start and were well organized, but we were equal to the challenge. Ruislip opened up the scoring but we were very soon back level 1-1, which was where it finished and onto our second penalty shoot out. This was now a very tense affair as both teams stepped up to take their turn, unfortunately this wasn’t our time and we were beaten on penalty kicks. Runners up this time but a great performance and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Well done to the Woods for a great effort on our first competitive encounter.
