Match Reports 2009-10

25th April 2010: Hadley Wood & Wingate Foxes 3 Northwood 2

A very disappointing performance from the Reds saw HWW take all three points in this top of the table clash.
Everything we have been doing well in the past few weeks was totally forgotten as the Reds turned in a performance that lacked discipline, character and basic skills.
From the start Northwood were not playing their usual passing game and the attitude was all wrong, and were fortunate to go into the break level.
We had to step it up in all departments but things went from bad to worse and HWW deservedly scored three times.
The boys have to realise that you can’t just turn up and expect to win.  The reason we have training is to work on our skills, and this has to be taken seriously.
Hopefully a valuable lesson has been learned from this defeat and the boys will take this on board for the remainder of the season.
MOTM:  Charlie Laws.  The exception to the above, Charlie had a great game: solid in defence and probably coming closest to scoring for the Reds with a long range effort.

20 March 2010: Northwood 3 London Colney 0

Home today against the only side that have beaten the young Reds in the league this season.  The boys were determined to avenge the 1-0 loss to London Colney back in November, and were confident going into the game.
Both sides started a little tentatively, feeling each other out, but it was Northwood that gained the early advantage with a goal that we have been working on at training.  We’ve really been urging the boys to make runs to the far post, and when Karan Sofat won the ball in midfield and fed Aman Sandhu on the right it was looking promising.  The cross from Aman was inch perfect, and was met beautifully at the far post by Josh Simpson  to convert expertly despite the ball bouncing up at him at an awkward height.  1-0.
Josh went close soon after with a shot from outside the box that clipped the post.
A couple of missed chances from well delivered corners by Rishi Joshee didn’t help, but against a well organised side such as London Colney any advantage going into the break was good.  Half time 1 nil.
The second half started with Northwood having the balance of the play, but Colney were not to be underestimated, but when they did break the Reds defence of Charlie Laws, Karan Sofat and Sam Netscher stood firm, and with Alex Marmor dominant between the sticks, rushing out of his goal to deal with some through balls, the Reds looked in command.
At the other end the Reds were threatening constantly with Khye Leung going close, Rishi hitting the cross bar with a superb long range effort and Aman striking the post.
The second goal seemed inevitable and soon came with Josh this time supplying Aman at the far post with a simple chance that he converted.  2-0.
The Reds sealed the game with a third after good work from Sam, who whipped in a ball with his left foot and Josh was on hand to tuck away.  3-0.
Colney continued to attack and almost scored with a well struck shot that was superbly blocked by Sam diving across to turn the ball away for a corner with Alex beaten.  It was great to see the boys working so hard for each other to keep a clean sheet even with the game by that stage effectively over.
A thoroughly entertaining game, played by two sides playing the game in the right way, but it was the Reds that took the points to maintain the position at the top of the table with four league games to go.
Scorers:  Josh Simpson 2, Aman Sandhu.
MOTM:  Aman Sandhu.  A great performance by Aman.  Provider, scorer, all round teamwork and good positional sense.  Just stop calling me Rodney!!

7th March 2010: Omonia 2 Northwood 2

An under strength Northwood Red were away to Omonia in Enfield this week.  The Reds started out confidently, and after 4 minutes Khye Leung received the ball just inside his own half wide on the left and powered down the wing.  Khye then left defenders trailing in his wake, cut in and sent a powerful finish inside the far post to give Northwood the lead.  1-0.
The Reds then missed chance after chance, some from very close range which would prove costly.  Omonia then created a chance on the break which left their striker unmarked to level the scores.  1-1.
Good work from Aman Sandhu out on the right gave him space to put Northwood back in the lead.  2-1.
Another break from Omonia and an almost identical goal to their first to send the boys in to the break level at 2-2.
Omonia broke a few times in the second half but nearly all were stopped by Charlie Laws who didn’t miss a tackle all game.  At the other end Northwood continued to waste chance after chance when on some occasions it seemed easier to score.  Omonia did look dangerous on the break, and from one of these chances Sam Netscher deputising in goal pulled off a great save down in the bottom corner.
Full time 2-2.
The overall performance today was a bit below par from the boys, but our finishing was way below the standard the boys normally achieve, which ultimately cost us all three points.  Let’s learn from this boys and move on.
Scorers:  Khye Leung, Aman Sandhu.  MOTM:  Charlie Laws.

21st Feb. 2010: Sun Postal Yellow 4 Northwood 4
Northwood win 3-2 on penalties

The third round of the Challenge Cup took us to Sun Postal, in a game that was due to be played at home but was changed at the last minute to an away fixture due to the postponement of matches at Chestnut Avenue. It was always going to be tough against SP, a team from the top division, let alone now having the fixture away from home.  And so it turned out!
From the start both sides played good football with chances at both ends, but SP took the lead when a good cross from their tricky left winger was unluckily turned into his own net by a Reds defender attempting to cut the ball out.  Sun Postal doubled the lead shortly after through a well struck shot from the edge of the box.  The Reds kept plugging away though, and Josh Simpson cut the deficit with a well taken solo effort, but SP regained the two goal advantage with a goal straight from a corner to send them into the break with the score Sun Postal 3 Northwood 1.
The half time team-talk was all about how we could still win the game if we concentrated and took the game to SP, and boy, didn’t the boys respond!
Josh Simpson was the inspiration and he soon cut the deficit with a well taken goal.  Josh then went on to complete his hat-trick to level the scores with a thunderbolt that the ‘keeper couldn’t keep out, and then amazingly got his fourth with a wonderful finish cutting in from the left and placing the ball just inside the far post to give Northwood a 4-3 lead.  Sun Postal equalised with a well struck shot from the edge of the box with the last kick of the game to send the tie into extra time.
Surprisingly, the added period bought no more goals, and so on to penalties.  Alex Marmor between the sticks pulled off some great saves to give Northwood encouragement, and successful spot kicks from Khye Leung, Rishi Joshee and Aman Sandhu were enough to give Northwood a tense 3-2 penalty victory and spark celebrations amongst the young Reds players.
Goal Scorer:  Josh Simpson 4
MOTM:  On any normal day there would have been only one contender, Josh.  But today after coming back from 3-1 down to take the tie and move into the quarter finals it was decided that the whole team deserved the honour, So, Alex, Charlie, Fin, Karan, Sam, Rishi, Aman, Khye and especially you Josh – Take a bow boys!!

14th Feb. 2010: Northwood 5 Finchley Revolution 0

Home today against Finchley Revolution who we beat 4-1 away earlier in the season, but it was a scoreline that maybe flattered us a bit, so we knew that Finchley could play a good game. However, from the start, Northwood playing in an unfamiliar change strip of all gold seemed determined to turn in a 24 carat performance, and it didn’t take Rishi Joshee more than a few minutes to rifle in from wide of the area to give Northwood the advantage.  Rishi then turned provider to create a chance which Sam Netscher tucked away with a precise finish to make the score 2-0.
Rishi continued to torment the Finchley defence and put over a sublime cross which Finley Jones dispatched into the top corner with a looping header to send Northwood into the break with a 3 nil advantage.
The second started with Northwood continuing to search for more goals, with Josh Simpson starting numerous moves and also getting on the end of some. But the fourth goal seemed elusive until Aman Sandhu wide on the right jinked his way through and then chipped the ‘keeper from wide on the right to increase the lead.  Aman increased the lead further with another of his party pieces, dribbling into the box, going outside of two defenders before cutting in and planting a shot into the bottom far corner to make it 5-0.  This goal was well followed in by Khye Leung, which is what we are looking for from all of our players.  We’re not bothered by who scores the goals, just as long as it’s a Northwood goal!
Josh nearly added to the five goals with a spectacular acrobatic scissors kick which surely would have been goal of the season had it not flown narrowly wide.
At the back, Finchley rarely threatened, but when they did they were snuffed out by Karan Sofat and the ever reliable Charlie Laws, and with the last line of ‘keeper Alex Marmor, the Northwood defence is becoming a force to be reckoned with.
All in all a good team performance, that depending on other results should keep Northwood top of the table.
Scorers:  Rishi Joshee, Sam Netscher, Finley Jones, Aman Sandhu 2. MOTM:  Rishi Joshee.  Scorer, provider, and all round superb performance.

7th Feb 2010: Northwood Red 3 Cassiobury Rangers 1

Back to a league game today, and the Reds welcomed Cassiobury Rangers, a good footballing side.
On a very heavy pitch, Northwood made the early running, testing the Rangers ‘keeper with some decent efforts, but found him to be in excellent form.
At the other end, whenever Rangers threatened Alex Marmor between the sticks was proving to be a real barrier and thwarted Rangers each time.
Towards the end of the half, Josh Simpson got the ball out wide on the left, cut in, and seeing the ‘keeper off of his line, lobbed him from outside the box to send the Reds into the break with a one goal advantage.
The second half started at a frantic pace with both sides attacking each other. From a Cassiobury corner the ball was flighted to the far post and was tucked away by a Rangers player to level the scores.  1-1.
The Reds did not let their heads go down, and immediately went back on the attack only to be denied again and again by the Rangers ‘keeper.
Cassiobury continued attacking however, and from one of these opportunities the Rangers striker shot, and even though the ball was partially stopped by Alex, it appeared that it was going in, only for a superb goal line clearance by Charlie Laws to keep the scores level.
Pressure told though, and when Khye Leung went through he shot, and even though the ball was once again saved, it fell to Josh who shot into the top right hand corner to put Northwood in the lead again.
Finley Jones doubled the lead when he chased a through ball, forced the keeper into yet another save, but the ball rebounded in off Fin to give the Reds a well deserved 3-1 victory.
Goal Scorers:  Josh Simpson 2, Finley Jones.
MOTM:  Josh Simpson.  A typical all-action performance by Josh, full of running and topped off with two great goals.

31st Jan. 2010: AC Finchley 1 Northwood Red 2

The opening round of the Challenge Cup gave the Northwood Reds an extremely tough draw away to top division AC Finchley. A difficult pitch which was frozen down the middle but fairly soft out wide was going to be interesting, and from the kick off ACF got the ball out wide, crossed and scored from a scramble that really should have been cleared.
Northwood suddenly realised they were in a game and started to press and create chances but found the ACF ‘keeper in fine form.  A double save from Josh Simpson and Aman Sandhu had both sets of supporters applauding.  At the other end, Alex Marmor in goal for the Reds was having an equally excellent game whenever ACF threatened, and the boys took heart from this.
A great move through the midfield allowed Rishi Joshee to thread an excellent pass inside the ACF last man to put Josh through, and this time there was nothing the ‘keeper could do as Josh slipped the ball inside the post to level the scores.
Half time 1-1.
The second half started at a frantic pace with both sides going for it.  ACF were creating more chances, but the Reds the better ones, but again the two keepers were in excellent form. Midway through the half, Northwood gained a corner which was well delivered by Rishi, a scramble, and the ball fell to Sam Netscher on the penalty spot who blasted goalwards only for the keeper to pull off another great save, but he couldn’t hold it and Khye Leung was the first to react to the rebound to give Northwood the lead.
The remainder of the half saw ACF put the Reds goal under severe pressure, but a typical skippers performance by Karan Sofat, who was dominant throughout, saw the Reds home. A cracking game to watch for all that were there!
Our football today was not the best we have witnessed, due mainly to the difficult conditions and a very small pitch, but the teamwork, determination, and the way the boys helped each other out was second to none. Well done to all of the boys, a real team performance!
Scorers:  Josh Simpson, Khye Leung.
MOTM: Alex Marmor, a great all round display, fantastic concentration levels & Karan Sofat, led by example, and was like a brick wall when ACF attacked.

24th Jan. 2010: Abbots Youth 1 Northwood Red 5

The Reds took to the field after a lengthy 5 week lay off due to the weather. In the first half the lack of playing time was evident as the boys struggled to settle down in the manner we know they can. There were some moments of good football and one of these led to a well worked goal which saw the Reds score and go in at half time 1-0 up. After a good talk at half time, the boys began to play the flowing football they are capable of. The boys defended well, and Alex was aging at the top of his game in goal. Karan and Charlie were great at the back, with Karan bringing the ball out to set up a number of attacks. Josh and Rishi were ever present in midfield battling and distributing the ball. Aman worked tirelessly and had a hand in every goal. Khye was clinical in front of goal and was rewarded with well taken hat-trick with Aman adding two. Finlay was versatile as always, playing in a number of positions. Overall a very good performance by the boys against a good side and final score 5-1.

13th Dec. 2009: Northwood 3 Enfield Rangers 1

The first game in almost a month, and the first home game for almost two months saw the Under 9 Reds host Enfield Rangers. As the game started it was obvious that the long lay off had affected the Reds who were having trouble with stringing their passing together, and the lack of communication amongst the players was clearly evident.  Enfield were having the better of the exchanges, and it was only Alex Marmor in goal that was keeping the sides level.  Alex’s concentration and awareness saved Northwood on numerous occasions in the first half when he had to come rushing out of his goal to clear with Enfield threatening.  He also made two point blank blocks when it looked as though Enfield were certain to score.
As the half progressed Northwood were slowly starting to put some passes together and when Josh Simpson chased a loose ball down the left, he collected, looked up and switched the play to Rishi Joshee on the right who strode forward to thump home from outside the area.  1 nil.
The half time team talk was all about how we must improve and play to the standard that we know we can, and the boys took this on board.
The second half started with a much improved attitude and performance that saw the Reds starting to knock the ball about. Good work by Aman Sandhu on the right saw him set Khye Leung free and Khye powered in to the box to score with a good finish. 2 nil.
Shortly after, Sam Netscher jinked his way into the box beating four defenders and was cruelly tripped just as he was about to shoot, but the unsightly (sorry, I mean unsighted!) referee didn’t award the spot kick. Another run from Sam into the box caused Enfield problems, and he looked certain to score until he very unselfishly layed the ball square to the unmarked Khye to pass the ball into an empty net to make it 3 nil.
Enfield then ‘scored’ a consolation, although there was much debate whether or not the ball actually went in or not.  All of the defenders and Alex in goal claimed it didn’t, but it was awarded regardless. So the game ended 3-1, although we must improve our performance over the entire match to continue to progress, but there was a distinct improvement the longer the match went on.
Thanks to Atul for refereeing again (don’t give up the day job, Mate! J)
Goal Scorers:  Rishi Joshee, Khye Leung 2
MOTM:  Alex Marmor.  A great performance by Alex!  High concentration levels, good awareness, and some super saves.

15th Nov. 2009: AEK Gold 1  Northwood Red 2

Round 2 of the WFL Challenge Cup took us to Palmers Green and an away tie at AEK. AEK kicked off but possession was immediately taken by the Reds who stormed forward looking for an early goal.  The chance came, but for what was not going to be the last time today, it was squandered. Northwood continued to dominate and create chance after chance, but all were missed until Sam Netscher cut in from the right and slotted home.  1 Nil.  Everyone then expected the floodgates to open, but it was not to be.  More chances missed and half time arrived.  1-0.
Unbelievably, the second half started in the same fashion with Northwood continuing to dominate play, but the scoreline didn’t reflect this.  And it was not until Aman Sandhu and Josh Simpson combined brilliantly out on the right, which resulted in the latter putting over an excellent cross which Sam Netscher clinically tucked away with a first time left foot finish.  2 Nil.
The remainder of the half saw more dominance from Northwood but incredibly no more goals.  AEK did manage to bundle one in late in the game which should serve as a lesson to the Reds - that if you don’t take your chances you put unnecessary pressure on yourselves. Two valuable lessons learned today.  One – Remember to bring your shooting boots with you to every game, and, Two – Chances must be taken as better sides will capitalise on this.
Scorer:  Sam Netscher 2. MOTM:  Khye Leung – Good work from Khye.  Very mobile and didn’t give the AEK defence a minute to relax.

8th Nov. 2009: Finchley Revolution 1 Northwood Red 4

The tour of North London continued today against Finchley Revolution in Barnet.  The pitch was very difficult, very soft with a slope from one side to another. The game started and it was soon obvious that Northwood would be up against it.  Finchley showed they were a good side, passing the ball well and linking up well together.  It took Northwood a while to settle, and even though we had a few corners and quite a bit on possession, the boys had to be wary of Finchley when moves broke down.
Chances were starting to come though, and Aman Sandhu rattled the post with a shot that came back off the inside of the post and was cleared.  Sam Netscher provided the breakthrough just a couple of minutes later when he tucked an accurate shot just inside the post from a couple of yards inside the area.  Sam scored an almost exact replica a few minutes later, placing the ball into the same corner of the net although he had a bit more work to do with this one, having to cut inside a defender before shooting.
Finchley pulled one back just before the break, with a shot from wide of the area which should have been cut out.  Half time 2-1.
Second half started with both teams continuing to play good football on a pitch that was cutting up badly, and it was a credit to both teams for the standard of football that was being played. The game was still evenly balanced going into the last 10 minutes when Josh Simpson broke through and scored with an accurate shot into the bottom left corner, and it was a relief for the Reds when Josh added his second five minutes from time.
A great game played by two teams that both played good football and were a credit to their clubs.
Goalscorers:  Sam Netscher 2, Josh Simpson 2. MOTM:  Sam Netscher.  A huge effort by Sam, helping out both defence and attack.

1st Nov. 2009: Enfield Rangers 1 Northwood Red 3

Game 2 of 5 on the road for the Red team took us to a very wet and windy Enfield Rangers. We arrived at the ground and the game was in doubt right up to kick off, with torrential rain and a near gale force wind making the already puddle strewn pitch worse by the minute.  It was clear that whoever mastered the conditions better would come out on top.
From the first minute the Reds showed they were up for the challenge and were trying to play the football they have become accustomed to even in these difficult conditions.  Josh Simpson starting up front was sent clear twice in the opening ten minutes and made no mistake on either occasion to put the Reds two up, and when Khye Leung added a third with a precise finish, the Reds came into the break with a 3 nil lead.
The second half started with the weather not relenting one bit.  The Reds had chances to add to the lead but with the ball difficult to control, and slipping and sliding being the order of the day, we had to be content with just the three goals.  Enfield Rangers did manage to claw one back late on from a goalmouth scramble, but it was to be Northwood’s day. Three points well earned, and hot drinks also well earned!!
MOTM:  The whole team!  Great performance from all the boys in horrendous conditions.

25th Oct. 2009: London Colney 1 Northwood Red 0

The first of five consecutive away games took us to London Colney, a good ball playing team who will give most teams problems.
Northwood started out confidently but were lacking a bit of composure all around the pitch, especially in front of goal.  Chances came our way but were not taken, and this cost us when on the stroke of half-time Colney got a corner which was competently tucked away by their lively striker.
Second half continued in much the same vein with Northwood creating chances but not sticking the ball away.  The Reds were pressing hard and this inevitably created space at the back for Colney to exploit, but on those occasions Alex Marmor in goal stood up to them and denied them a second goal.
More composure is definitely needed in front of goal, and we’ll work on that in training.  A solid, if lacklustre performance by the boys which would have beaten most teams but it simply wasn’t to be our day today.  Full time 0-1.
MOTM:  Josh Simpson.  Great effort by Josh, made all the more impressive by the fact he hasn’t been well for the last couple of days!

18th Oct. 2009: Northwood Red 6 Omonia Green 2

The first league match of the season for the boys put us up against Omonia Green, a good footballing side who were the last team to beat Northwood over a year ago, although that defeat was subsequently avenged by the Reds.
The game started at a blistering pace with Northwood settling faster and Khye Leung was on hand to blast in after just a few minutes.  Khye added a second soon after to put Northwood in a commanding position, but the boys were told not to relax as we know from past experience that Omonia will carry on playing good football regardless.  This proved to be the case as Omonia pressed hard and only a brilliant goal line clearance from Finley Jones stopped Omonia from reducing the deficit.  That save from Fin proved crucial as Northwood went straight up the other end and scored through Sam Netscher, and Aman Sandhu added another just before the break to leave the half time score 4-0.
The second half started with Omonia showing great determination, and it was a bit against the run of play when Finley Jones bundled in Northwood fifth, but again Omonia would not give up and they deservedly scored twice in quick succession to make the score 5-2.  Charlie Laws was playing his heart out at the back and he made some crucial tackles to stop the advantage being reduced further.  The game was effectively over when Josh Simpson cracked home Northwood’s sixth to seal the win.
Full time 6-2, but huge credit to both teams for a game that was very entertaining to watch for the good football played by both teams.
Scorers:  Khye Leung 2, Sam Netscher, Aman Sandhu, Finley Jones, Josh Simpson.
MOTM:  Charlie Laws.  Crucial tackles by ‘Chunky’ at an important stage of the game.

11th Oct. 2009: Hadley Rangers 0 Northwood 6

The draw for the first round of the Challenge Cup took us to Hadley Rangers and a lovely playing surface, albeit on a very small pitch.  Our passing game was always going to be a threat to Hadley Rangers on such a good surface and the Reds certainly had the better of the early exchanges.  The breakthrough almost came when a surging run from Sam Netscher took him into the penalty area only to be tripped just as he was about to shoot, but the Referee declined giving a penalty.
The Reds have been working very hard on set pieces in training, and this paid off after 10 minutes when a well flighted corner from Rishi Joshee led to Josh Simpson peeling off of his marker at the near post to thump in a wonderful header.  1-0.  Further goals from Khye Leung and an own goal before the break gave the Reds a 3-0 advantage.
The second half started in much the same way, with Northwood’s passing giving Hadley all sorts of problems, and Khye Leung increased the lead early on.  Another excellent corner from Rishi led to Aman Sandhu bulleting in a header to make it 5-0, and Aman got his second late on to complete the scoring.
A good performance by all the boys, and it was very pleasing to see the hard work and practice on the training pitch now starting to pay dividends.  Well done Boys!
Scorers:  Khye Leung 2, Aman Sandhu 2, Josh Simpson, O.G.
MOTM:  Rishi Joshee.  A well disciplined performance, and excellent delivery from set pieces.

4th Oct. 2009: Northwood 11 Everett Rovers Amber 0

An exquisite first half passing performance laid the foundation for this convincing win by the young Reds.  Northwood started from the first whistle passing and moving in a pleasing style, but it wasn't until the tenth minute that the breakthrough came when Khye Leung slotted in the first.  Karan Sofat was behind a lot of the good play, dictating the pace of the game and starting numerous good moves.  The goal of the game came just before the break, starting with Alex Marmor in goal playing a short pass and the move progressed through almost every member of the team and ended with Aman Sandhu scoring.  Half time 6-0.
The second half continued to see Northwood playing the passing game, although the boys were perhaps a little guilty of not composing themselves when presented with chances and taking their shots too early.  The goals continued to come however, with Finley Jones bagging four in total and Sam Netscher getting his first hat-trick for the club.  Much credit must go to Aman Sandhu who was very unselfish when setting up three goals when he could have easily taken the shot himself.
All in all, a very good display although much credit must go to Everett Rovers who never gave up, and were inspired by their 'keeper who made numerous outstanding saves.MOTM - Karan Sofat - A near faultless display: tackled well and distributed the ball brilliantly.

28th Sept. 2009: Northwood Red 14 Abbots Youth Blue 0

From our first loss last week (after over a year) the reds had to show some character and come back and play some good football, which they certainly did. In the first 4 minutes Josh had scored a hat-trick to make it 3-0.
They played good fluid football, with excellent passing and communicated well to one another. Great come back, lets hope they keep it up!
Scorers: Aman Sandhu 3, Josh Simpson 3, Finlay Jones 3, Khye Leung 2, Rishi Joshee, Karan Sofat, o.g.
MOTM: Finlay Jones.

20th Sept. 2009: Harvesters North 4  Northwood Red 1

A disappointing display from the young Reds who didn’t really show up in the first half and conceded three goals, Harvesters however were very disciplined in their shape and organisation.
Half time: 3-0.
Second Half saw the reds play much better and creating a lot more chances, then the breakthrough saw Khye Leung one on one with the keeper, he kept his cool to finish and get a goal back.
The reds had more chances and we felt we could have got something out of the game, however it wasn’t to be as Harvesters pulled in another. The second half score being 1-1 but an overall score of 4-1!
MOTM: Alex Marmor.

13 Sept. 2009: Northwood Red 7 St Albans Rangers 1

Today was our first home game of the season, which saw the young reds up against St Albans Rangers, the boys, started off very well and were disciplined by maintaining good shape and position, firing in 3 quick goals.  Halfway through the first half they started showing signs of complacency and instead of keeping the discipline they started off with, took the game lightly which allowed the opposition chance after chance and saw the reds concede a goal, however it must be said that St Albans Rangers played a great game. Northwood scored one more goal before the half time whistle. Half Time score 4-1.
The half time team talk did little to change things and for the first 6 to 7 minutes of the half St Albans kept the pace of the game at high tempo, getting many more chances, they probably would have got a couple of goals if it wasn’t for some spectacular saves by Alex Marmor. The
reds then picked up their game and played the fluid football we have become accustomed to watching, getting 3 further goals they finished the game off in good style. Aman Sandhu getting his hat-trick and Man of the Match award.
Overall it was a fantastic game of football to watch, end-to-end and very fast!  Lots of credit to the St Albans team who are new to this league, the score line didn’t do justice to the way they played and they will certainly get better!
Scorers: Aman Sandhu (3), Finlay Jones (1), Khye Leung (1), Sam Netscher (1), Joshua Simpson (1).

6 Sept. 2009: Croxley Green Kestrels  0  Northwood Red 8

Today was the first game of the 2009-10 season, it was the first game of the seeding matches which saw the reds in Group F away to Croxley’s second team. The boys started off well, with Rishi Joshee getting the first 2 goals in quick success, the boys then sat back, must have complacency! The next 8 minutes saw Croxley on the attack, however some fierce defending saw the reds on the counter, getting 1 more goal before half time – 0-3 at half time.
The reds were told to maintain shape and communication in the second half and they showed great discipline and gained a further 5 goals, Karan Sofat made some impressive runs from the back and supplied some fantastic balls, Aman Sandhu showed his precise finishing skills in front of goal and we could see why he was last season's top goalscorer, Sam Netscher got an absolute screamer for his second goal and without doubt the goal of the game !
It was Finlay Jones' first competitive game for the team and by getting a brace he is now well settled in the side! Charlie Laws is the rock at the back and nothing gets past him, he was by far the most improved player last season and the expectations are there for him to have a great season. Alex Marmor had a clean sheet, however when required he showed some great skills and distribution.  Josh Simpson as ever was surging the attack. Overall, very happy with our first game!
Scorers: Rishi Joshee (2), Aman Sandhu (2), Sam Netscher (2), Finlay Jones (2).
