Match Reports 2009-10

18th April 2010: Northwood 5 AC Finchley 2

Northwood were playing a side that we have beaten three times this year, and we had the belief that we can beat them again. We didn’t get off to a good start, as our passes were sloppy and our movement and positioning was bad. A nine man Finchley managed to get a goal, and we were very disappointed.
We still dominated the game and our possession paid off as we got a goal through Michael, which made it 1- 1, So we went in at half time feeling we had played under par.
We came out in the second half with a much better attitude and we got our second goal of the game thanks to an own goal. As we continued to dominate, Mitch scored a goal from a fancy chip, and further goals from Alex and Rhys cemented our win. Finchley managed to get a consolation goal, but it was far too late as Northwood ran out winners. Well done lads.

14th April 2010: Northwood 2 Cassiobury Rangers 1

The boys were going into this match confident after last Sunday’s brilliant performance, knowing that a win could send us within touching distance of promotion. The last time we met Cassiobury, Northwood came out on the losing side, and this time we were hoping it was going to be a different matter.
Northwood started under par, a few passes went wayward and a lot of the time we were trying to play down the middle. Our poor start to the match took its toll, Cassiobury coming close, and in that particular half we struggled to get that crucial goal.  Northwood went in at half time knowing that they should have done better.
The second half, however, was different after we let cassiobury in with an easy goal. We controlled the game and our dominance in the game paid off. After a cross by Billy, it bounced up and fortunately the keeper missed it and it was on a plate for Tilk to score to level the score.
With Northwood continuing to pile the pressure on for that crucial second goal, our efforts were finally blessed. With a lovely through ball by Mitch, Michael was one on one with the keeper, and placed past the keeper with ease. A great comeback by the lads and thoroughly deserved.

11th April 2010:  Aldenham 3  Northwood 2

This game was always going to be tough as Northwood only had ten players, against Aldenham.
The game didn’t get off to a good start as Northwood went one down, due to Aldenham’s extra man. Worse was yet to come as Northwood’s goalkeeper Ben Holden limped off injured, so Northwood now had to play with eight outfield men. As Aldenham tried to keep hold of the ball, they managed to get a second by slotting it past Mitch who was now in goal. But the resilient Northwood didn’t say no, and got a goal back with some good play by Prav and Michael, which Pray finished off. So half time the score was 2-1 to Aldenham.
Northwood came out all guns blazing and stopped Aldenham playing football. But unfortunately against the run of play Aldenham scored another to make it 3-1. But once again the boys never say die attitude paid off as we controlled the game again with some nice passing, and eventually the goal came, with Michael placing it home. As the boys pressed to get a third, Aldenham’s only option was counter attacking football. Unfortunately our goal never came, but we can hold our heads up high.
MOTM: whole squad.

21st Feb. 2010: Watford Youth 2 Northwood 1

Northwood boys, playing top of the league Watford, got off to a great start, and were
1-0 up after 15 minutes.  Five minutes later Watford had a corner and managed to head the equaliser, this was a tight game throughout a good battling performance from the Northwood boys, but with seven minutes to go we gave away a free kick in a dangerous area and from the resulting kick Watford got their second goal.  Northwood put a lot of pressure on the Watford defence in the last part of the game hitting the bar etc but despite their efforts could not equalise.

14th Feb. 2010: Oakhill Tigers 2 Northwood 1

Upsetting today that we could only get ten men out, but the boys that were there performed exceptionally well. Even with a man down, Northwood pushed hard from the start, creating lots of chances. They got their reward by going 1-0 up.
This was always going to be a hard second half as the boys were running and playing hard but in the end they were always going to tire later on. Oakhill scored two late goals, which was a shame for the boys because they played so well.
Thanks to Paul from Oakhill Tigers for saying to us at the end of the game we deserved to get something out of that, which was a good boost for the boys.

7th Feb 2010: Potters Bar 0 Northwood 12

The first half was very scrappy and the Northwood players didn’t play a lot of football, although we went in at half time, 6-0 up. The first two goals were from Michael followed by two from Pranav and to keep it even Mitchell scored two before half time.  In the interval the boys were told to start playing football the right way. Therefore in the second half the boys produced some great work. and without the fantastic show from the potters bar goalie the boys could have scored more. Two goals from Michael and one each from Mitchell, Pranav and Tilk and one final goal from the captain Alex. It was great to be on the side line to hear parents of the opposition speak about our team saying what a good football side we were. Well done to the lads.

27th Sept. 2009: Northwood 2 AC Finchley 1

Some good work in this League Cup game in the first half from Northwood creating lots of chances. 20 minutes gone and Northwood had their first goal a strike from Michael Elderfield was parried away by the goalie and Oliver Jacobs was first there to seize the opportunity and score his first goal for the club.  The second half was a bit scrappy but Alex Delasalle added to his total for the season and put Northwood 2 – 0 up. Ten minutes to go and Northwood gave away a penalty for 2 – 1 which made the last minutes harder than it should have been.

20th Sept. 2009: Greenford Celtic 3  Northwood 2

Northwood met a good team from the Harrow Premier division today, and produced an excellent County Cup tie. Northwood went one down before half time but were unlucky to be down at the break.
Fantastic goal from Alex Delasalle with a volley from outside the box making it level it stayed like this to the end of full time.  The second half of extra time produced three more goals, with Northwood going 2-1 up through Billy McKenzie, but sadly let two goals in close to the end. A good performance from the boys.

13 Sept. 2009: LONDON COLNEY 2 NORTHWOOD 3

LAST WEEK NORTHWOOD UNDER 14’S WERE FIGHTING OFF THE COBWEBS AFTER A LONG HOLIDAY, BUT THIS WEEK THEY STARTED THE GAME PLAYING SOME GREAT FOOTBALL.  THE FIRST GOAL WAS A CROSS FROM THE RIGHT BY BILLY MACKENZIE AND PRANAV AMARANATH HIT A LEFT FOOT VOLLEY INTO THE NET.
THE GAME WAS TIGHT UP TILL FIVE MINUTES BEFORE THE BREAK WHEN MICHAEL ELDERFIELD ROUNDED THE KEEPER AND PUT NORTHWOOD 2 UP.  LOTS OF CHANCES IN THE SECOND HALF BUT THE THIRD GOAL DIDN’T COME TILL HALF WAY THROUGH.  THE BOYS WORKED HARD RIGHT UP TO THE LAST THREE MINUTES OF THE MATCH WHEN THEY ALLOWED THEMSELVES TO DROP THEIR GUARD AND LET TWO GOALS IN MAKING THE LAST MINUTE OF THE MATCH VERY TENSE.

MOTM: HARRY WICKINGS
