Match Reports 2010-11

27th March 2011: Whetstone Wanderers Tigers 0 Northwood Black 2

The Woods consolidated sixth place in the league with an important away win against a Whetstone team who were level on points with the Woods before the game, but with an inferior goal difference, and started well and looked capable of winning the game. However, they were not really stamping their authority on the game. The home team created a few chances but were not able to take them.

Northwood kept trying, and slowly started to excerpt some authority on the game, and as towards the interval the Woods started creating chances and could have gone ahead when Ryan Clay collected a fumbled ball from the home goalie. Ryan’s cross somehow managed to evade all the Woods players and was cleared.

As half-time approached, Henry Gibbor received the ball on the edge of the box, beat one, then two, three players and closed in on goal. Just as the ball looked to have got away from him, he managed to extend a leg to poke the ball into the net. The half time whistle went on the restart, the referee confirming Henry’s goal went in with one second of the first half left to play.

That seemed to give the Woods more confidence and they pushed on from this in the second half. Whilst, at times, the defence didn’t look as secure as they can be, the Woods kept the home team at bay. With William Hagalid working hard in midfield and running the channels down the right chances were being created. Midway through the period, Northwood doubled their lead and removed the pressure. Henry Gibbor collected the ball outside the box, beating a couple of defenders he “pulled the trigger”. The shot headed straight to the home goalie, and as Henry turned away thinking the goalie would collect the ball, the keeper had a moment they all have at some stage, and completely missed the ball to Henry’s and the Woods’ delight.

The Woods created more chances but could not add to their score, as they saw the game out for an important win. Despite a poor start to the season, the Woods have now achieved 3 wins in their last 4 league games, all three being by 2 goals to nil. MOTM: William Hagalid.

20th March 2011: Northwood 2  AC Finchley North 5

The score doesn’t really reflect the match, and perhaps a draw would have been a fair result. The Woods dominated the early part of the game, but were caught out by a long kick from the visitors’ goalie. The ball bounced over the Woods back four for the AC Finchley striker to run onto the “route 1” ball and with only the goalie to beat, scored against the run of play.

The Woods continued to dominate despite conceding the advantage to the visitors in midfield. The Woods were still creating chances and looked to have equalised when a header from Henry Gibbor beat the goalie. Unfortunately the header came back off the inside of the post. Henry retrieved the ball and with no available player in a position to take the ball, Henry juggled the ball then shot again. Only the hand of a defender on the line stopped the ball going into the net. William Hagalid converted the result penalty.

The game was there for the taking, but unluckily the Woods conceded a penalty soon after equalising. 2-1 down at half time, and the Woods came out strongly in the second half and were on level terms after 10 minutes, when a corner from Mitchell Powell curled into the goal. The Woods were still not firing on all cylinders but looked more than capable of winning the game. The Woods looked more solid at the back with Matt Biss looking like he was well and truly over his injury that had kept him out since November.

However AC Finchley did take the lead again with a well worked goal. Still you had the feeling that the Woods could get back into the game. However the visitors extended their lead when a cross into the box was cleared by the Woods, but what was meant to have been a clearance for a corned, cruelly crept into then net for an own goal.

It just wasn’t the Woods day, when a few minutes later a very tame looking cross somehow ballooned into the air and dropped into the goal at the far post. The Woods didn’t have the luck today, but they certainly didn’t deserve to loose by this margin. MOTM: Matt Biss.

6th March 2011: Northwood Black 2 Borehamwood 2000 0

Playing the team 2 points above them, the Woods knew that this was another of their “must win” games if they were to avoid relegation for the second successive season. The Woods started the brighter of the two, carving out a number of chances and being competitive all over the pitch. However Northwood failed to test the visiting goalie often wanting to getting a clearer shot at goal rather than shooting when the opportunity presented itself.

As the game moved towards half time, the Woods seemed to ease up and allowed the visitors more time on the ball. Despite this, Thomas Nicholas had very little to do in the Woods goal. With no goals in the first half the first goal would undoubtedly define the game. The Woods dominated from the start of the second half, but again wanted too much time on the ball before shooting at goal. With Connor Harrell and AJ Oyekanmi battling in the centre of the park, the Woods seemed in control, but still lacked that ambition in front of goal.

Midway through the second half Connor Harrell took a heavy tackle and had to be replaced by Mitchell Powell, but the Woods continued to dominate whilst their goalie continued to look on from afar. With the game heading for a nil-nil draw, with five minutes left Northwood were awarded a free kick 20 yards out, in front of goal. Mitchell Powell struck as good a free kick as you would see not only at this age group but in any age group, including Mens’ Football. The ball flew low and fast into the corner of the goal, as Mitchell was swamped by his overjoyed team mates.

Borehamwood had very little time to get back on level terms, but were struggling as the superior fitness of the Woods meant all the pressure was on the Visitors’ defence. The win was sealed with 2 minutes left on the clock, when Mitchell Powell put in a perfect corner. The visitors’’ goalie could only get a hand to as he helped it towards the far post, where Matt Gibbs was waiting to score for the second week running. The Woods move up 2 places in the league with this win, and have been boosted by another clean sheet to follow their first clean sheet of the season last week. MOTM: AJ Oyekanmi.

27th Feb. 2011: Highgate & Muswell Hill 0  Northwood Black 2

It looked like the Woods were in for a disappointing and hard afternoon, as Highgate & Muswell Hill started the more determined, the more committed and the more skilful side, on a very good pitch in Edgware. Knowing that the Woods could not afford to lose the game, the boys could not have started any worse than they did. To say that they were “battered” in the first half would be an understatement. The Woods back four were under constant pressure and with the midfield completely out of sorts, it seemed that it would only be a matter of time before the home team scored.

Some valiant tackling and covering, however. kept the Woods on level terms. The battling by the back four of Jack Price, Sam Nelmes, Kavathan Thavatheva and Vyshnave Amaranath plus the superb goalkeeping of Thomas Nicholas can only be praised as the Woods reached half time all square with neither side registering a goal. To be honest, the Woods would have been lucky to have gone in only 4 or 5 goals down, given the dominance of the home team.

The boys were read the proverbial “riot act” at half time, and they came out with a bit more spirit in the second half. This meant that they were at last putting pressure on the home defence and midfield who has less time on the ball before being put under pressure. However, the home side continued to push for that elusive goal that their domination deserved. About 15 minutes into the second half one of the Highgate & Muswell Hill strikers was put through with only the goalie to beat. Thomas Nicholas came out and made himself as big as possible. Surely the Woods’ luck would run out, but no Thomas made another fantastic save to thwart the home side.

This seemed to be a turning point. The Woods started to play football and pass the ball around. Ryan Clay on the right of midfield who was working hard up and down the pitch started to play some neat football, whilst the central midfield players also upped their game. The strikers also started to put pressure on the home defence, and midway through the second half Henry Gibbor put fellow striker Matt Gibbs through on goal. Matt, coming in from the right, firmly shot past the Highgate & Muswell Hill goalie to give the Woods a surprise lead. This gave the Woods even more confidence and they upped their work rate and played their passing game.

Meanwhile, the Woods defence kept up the pressure, making some fine tackles to keep the home side at bay. The Woods were determined to hang on to their one goal lead, and with 10 minutes left Mitchell Powell fired in a low hard corner. The ball zipped in low across the goal, and there was AJ Oyekanmi on the far post to double the Woods advantage. There was only one winner from then on as the home side’s spirit seemed broken. The Woods were no longer under pressure as the whole side continued to work hard to maintain their advantage.

A game that could easily have been lost by a hatful of goals turned out to be the Woods first win for three months. The boys must now kick on and push up the league if they want to avoid a second successive relegation season. MOTM: Ryan Clay.

13th Feb. 2011: Northwood Black 0 Highgate & Muswell Hill 1

The Woods gave the League leaders two very hard games over the last two weeks, but failed to put in a similar performance against Highgate & Muswell Hill. Playing on a heavy pitch the Woods showed their footballing ability in flashes during the first half but lacked the positional discipline at times. A very tight first half saw very little in the way of chances. The best chance fell to the visitors who missed the opportunity to score when some slack marking in the Woods’ defence gave the Visitors a free header at goal.

With no score at half time, and play being extremely tight, the first goal was going to be vital. Highgate and Muswell Hill kicked off, and to the amazement of all on the touchline, one player took the ball from the half way line passed countless very poor challenges, into the box and planted the ball firmly into the back of the net. A truly appalling start to the second half, and a moment that defined the game. The Woods came back at the visitors but other than one scramble in the visitors’ goalmouth never really looked like getting the goal back.

A very disappointing performance given the way that they had played over the previous 2 weeks. MOTM: Kavathan Thavatheva.

6th Feb. 2011: Northwood Black 1 Rickmansworth 3

The Woods gave the League leaders yet another hard game as they looked to improve on the narrow defeat suffered last week against the same opposition, and got off to a great start when Kavathan Thavatheva headed home from a corner to give Northwood an early lead. The Woods looked to consolidate the early lead with Connor Harrell playing solidly in front of the back four, and makeshift fullback Matt Gibbs showing good form in an unfamiliar position.

However the visitors hit back with two goals to take the initiative. Northwood were very unlucky not to equalise when the ball crossed the visitors’ goal line and came back out again. Unfortunately the Referee was unsighted and was not able to give the goal. Within minutes Rickmansworth extended their lead to make the half time score 3-1 to the visitors.

The game remained tight throughout the second half as both teams looked to add to their goal tally. The Woods, well led by Vyshnave Amaranath at the back, remained solid but couldn’t find the goals they needed.

Having played the league leaders in consecutive weeks the Woods can be proud that they came so close to getting points off a team unbeaten in the league, and one that usually scores 4 or more goals in a game.

21st Nov. 2010: Northwood Black 1 St Albans City 6

A League Cup game against a Red division team was always going to be hard, and the boys needed to be “switched on” from the start. Unfortunately this did not happen, and the visitors were soon on top. Some slack marking from a corner saw St. Albans take the lead. Despite the generally lacklustre performances from the Woods, Thomas Nicholas in goal was in fine form, and Matt Biss, at Centre back, was putting in some hard work in the face of continuous pressure from the visitors.

St. Albans were soon adding to their tally as the Woods suffered the set back of Matt Biss having to leave the field with a knee injury. This resulted in Kavathan Thavatheva moving in from right back to the centre of the defence. Kavathan took up the challenge and started making some great well timed tackles, added to which he was looking to create by passing the ball well. The Woods experienced a ragged first half and were 6–0 down at the break. At half time the boys were asked to show some spirit and fight, even if they did lose heavily.

The second half started with the Woods upping their effort and their game. The visitors were now being put under more pressure, and the Woods were able to get into the St Albans half and make the defence work a bit. Even with this extra effort St Albans controlled the midfield for long periods. It looked like the Woods would fall further behind when St. Albans were awarded a penalty. However, St. Albans failed to take advantage as the spot kick was blasted over the bar.

Thomas Nicholas in the Woods goal was performing heroics, keeping the visitors at bay. The difference this half was that the Woods were beginning to believe that, whilst they may not win, they could at least get on the score sheet. Midway through the second half, William Hagalid won the ball on the right hand touchline and sent the ball up to Matt Gibbs who attacked the visitors’ defence. Matt got in behind the defence and, as the goalie came out to narrow the angle, Matt looked up to see striker Henry Gibbor coming into the box. Matt picked out the Woods’ striker, who took the ball on the half volley to score his 4th goal in as many games. This seemed to lift the Woods, who tried to add to their tally, but were unable to do so.

Despite losing the first half 6–0 at least the Woods were able to say they won the second period 1–0! MOTM: Thomas Nicholas & Kavathan Thavatheva.

7th Nov. 2010: Northwood Black 3 Omonia Green 3

The Woods got off to a slow start, against a very physical team. After 10 minutes some poor defending of a bobbling ball in the box led to the visitors taking the lead. Omonia doubled their lead, on 25 minutes when they took advantage of a defensive mix up. The Woods went in 2 goals down, and it looked a long way back for the Boys, especially as they had lost so heavily to Omonia earlier in the season.

However the Woods came out in the second half showing great battling qualities, and after about 10 minutes a superb pass from Sam Lynch put Henry Gibbor in on goal. Henry’s effort was saved by the goalie, but Henry was alert enough to get a foot to the ball to bring the Woods back into the game.

With Connor Harrell working hard in front of the back four the Woods looked to get the equaliser. Henry Gibbor up front for the Woods was working very hard in the face of some very physical Omonia defending, defending which earned a yellow card for one of the visitors. The Woods deservedly levelled the scores with 10 minutes left to play when Mitchell Powell’s cross come shot found its way into the net. The game looked like ending 2 – 2 but with 5 minutes remaining the visitors thought they had won it when some more poor defending let the visitors in. The visitor’s relief at scoring was evident by the ecstatic celebrations that followed the goal.

The Woods showed how they have become mentally tougher over recent weeks as they fought to get back on level terms, which they did with 2 minutes remaining. MOTM Henry Gibbor took a return pass from Mitchell Powell and struck the ball past the Omonia goalie and into the net off the inside of the post. The Woods could have taken all three points when a late chance was missed. A very satisfactory point for the Woods, who are now unbeaten in 3 league matches.

24th Oct. 2010: London Colney Colts 1  Northwood Black 2

Even this early in the season, this was a real “6 pointer” that the Woods had to win to avoid being dropped behind the mid table teams. The game started with the Woods looking to attack the home team and to put pressure on the London Colney back four. Unfortunately, against the run of play some poor defensive work from the Woods allowed the home team a chance of opening the scoring. London Colney were prevented from scoring by a great save from stand in goal keeper Sam Lynch. Unfortunately the home side got to the loose ball well ahead of the Woods defence to give themselves the lead.

The Woods just seemed to lack the required drive in midfield, even so Henry Gibbor, playing as the lone striker, was working hard to pressurise the home defence, who were struggling against Henry’s pace.  As the game wore on more chances were being created, and the London Colney goalie was called upon to make a number of saves to maintain his team’s lead. There was a growing feeling that it would only be a matter of time before the Woods would equalise, but as half time approached it seemed that the goal would have to come in the second half.

However, with a couple of minutes to go before half time the ball was bobbling ‘round the London Colney penalty area with no one taking control of it. The Woods battled for the ball, which fell to Ryan Clay on the left hand side of the box. Ryan controlled the ball and drove in his shot. The shot was goal bound as it hit a home defender, but there was enough on the shot for the ball to cross the line, for the equaliser. With the Woods in the ascendancy at half time, there was hope that they could push on to secure the win.

The Woods' midfield started to get into the game and chances were again being created. Unfortunately the Woods were unable to convert these into goals. For the second league game on the trot, the Woods failed to score from the penalty spot. This would have given them the lead and possibly allowed them to push on and score more goals. Matt Gibbs who came on at half time, took a while to settle into the pace of the game, but eventually managed to settle down and looked dangerous down the right flank.

With 10 minutes remaining, Henry Gibbor latched onto a through ball in the “inside left” channel. With the home defence chasing back, Henry shot from the edge of the box. The home goalie got his finger tips to the ball, but couldn’t prevent the Woods taking a well deserved lead. The Woods needed to keep their shape and work rate in the final 10 minutes, but all of a sudden players wanted to score rather than keep their shape. However, despite this, there was enough left in the legs of the Woods players to see the game out and move up a minimum of two places in the league.

The boys are now beginning to have more belief in themselves and are discovering the battling side to their game, something which was missing in their league games at the start of the season. MOTM: Matt Gibbs.

17th Oct. 2010: Northwood Black 0 Park View Rangers A 3

Northwood had to play this Middlesex County Cup Round 2 game with the bare eleven, due to players being away and last minute illness. We were able to maintain the 4-1-4-1 shape and started the game brightly. The Woods kept the ball in the oppositions half for the first 15-20 minutes with good work being done in the midfield by Mitchell Powell and Ryan Clay. Sam Nelmes played the defensive midfield role and was very solid there. The Woods had good possession and passed the ball round very well.

After 25 minutes, and against the run of play, a good cross from the right flank was not cleared by the Woods defence and Park View pounced for the first goal. After the goal Park View started to control the game a bit more and drove through the centre of the Woods defence to score their second just before half time.

Half time and 2 goals down, the next goal was going to be important in the ultimate outcome of the game. Unfortunately early in the second half, a Park View cross from the right was again not cleared and the Visitors were able to tap in their third goal. Park View netted again but this was disallowed for offside. The Woods didn't give up and despite the deficit started to get the ball back into Park Views half again with good work by William Hagalid in the middle.

Northwood were awarded a free kick just outside the area for a foul on Sam Nelmes. Mitchell Powell rifled a shot towards goal. It took a good save from the Park View keeper to tip it over the bar for a corner. Keeping up the pressure the Woods were awarded another free kick this time right on the edge of the penalty area but unfortunately this time Park View's wall came to the rescue and it was cleared. Goalie Thomas Nicholas was called upon to make some brave stops to keep the score at 0-3 as tiredness crept into the ten outfield players.

The game ended 0-3, but the Woods had given their all and can be proud of their performance. MOTM: Sam Nelmes.

10th Oct. 2010: AC Finchley North 1 Northwood Black 4

It was time for the Woods to “stand up and be counted”. After a poor start to the league season, the Woods needed a win against the only other team without a league point this season. The home team had a number of Boys who were physically taller and stronger than the Woods, and who early on looked like they would cause us problems.

The Woods, however, were definitely up for this game and closed down players, harried players and generally competed much more than they had in any of our previous games this season. Not only was the commitment there but they were also managing to put together their passing game. This nullified the opposition as an attacking force. AJ Oyekanmi and Mitchell Powell were well in control of the midfield which made the job of the Woods defence that much easier, whilst on the left of midfield Mase Leung, despite his lack of stature managed to win a few headers.

Midway through the first half William Hagalid was played through on goal. The goalie came out to narrow the angle and to put pressure on William. However, William was alert to the threat and coolly lobbed the ball over the advancing goalie and into the empty net. The Woods continued to press and created a few more chances, but generally their attacks were coming up the middle of the pitch.

A one-goal lead at half time was never going to be enough to see the game out. The Woods needed to extend their lead. The second half saw the Woods widen their point of attack, with Henry Gibbor upping his game and giving the team more width out on the right. The Woods spurned the chance of extending their lead when the home goalie got a foot to a spot kick. However it wasn’t long before the Woods doubled their lead when William Hagalid ran on to a flicked header, from Henry Gibbor, to fire home his second of the match.

William completed his hat trick when his sheer persistence got him past 3 defenders to shoot home and effectively seal the points for the Woods. With Connor Harrell breaking up play in front of the Woods back 4, the Woods looked secure at the back, and looked unlikely to concede a goal. Matt Biss, new to the team this season, continued to show good form at centre back being very solid at the heart of the defence.

The home team pushed players up, but the Woods still attacked, and AJ Oyekanmi shot home a rebound off the home goalie. Despite further chances the Woods could not increase ether lead as the home goalie made a number of good saves. The home side looked for a consolation goal, which came with the final kick of the game.

This was a much better performance from the Woods, which can hopefully “kick start” their league season. Mitchell Powell pushed William Hagalid hard for the Man of the Match award, but by virtue of his hat trick, William shaded the decision.

3rd Oct. 2010: Omonia Green 6  Northwood Black 0

Despite being depleted by Injuries, illness and unavailability, the Woods started the brighter of the two teams and in fact could have taken the lead early on. However as the game progressed, the home team got more into the game, and started to excerpt pressure on the Woods defence. With about 27 minutes on the clock this pressure produced a goal for Omonia.

At 1–0 down at half time it was felt that with a bit more commitment, the Woods could pull themselves back into the game. Unfortunately, five minutes into the second half the Woods conceded a second goal. Even at that stage there was the thought that a quick goal and the Woods would be back in the game.

However there just wasn’t enough pressure on the home defence to produce the goal, and in what seemed like a blink of the eye the home side had extended their lead to 5 goals, and the game was effectively over. A further goal followed and the Woods had no way back.

To be fair the score line did not reflect the difference between the teams, and the Woods will look to bounce back next weekend, having suffered this defeat after two cup wins in the previous 2 weeks.

MOTM: AJ Oyekanmi

26th Sept. 2010: Potters Bar United White 1  Northwood Black 10

A comprehensive win in a League Cup Round 1 match, against a team from two divisions below for the Woods, who took a while to get into their stride. However, once the first goal had been scored by William Hagalid, there was only going to be one winner, as the Woods passed the ball well to create numerous chances. In truth the 6–0 half time score could have been more.

With a six goal advantage the boys ignored their coach’s instructions, as they all seemed to want to get on the score sheet to the detriment of the team overall.

Despite being out-scored, the home team showed great spirit and continued to try their best support by parents who encouraged their boys all the way through. Some slack play at the back by the Woods let in Potters Bar to score a goal that their continued efforts deserved.

The Woods, though< were far too strong and ran out comfortable winners with 4 second half goals.

Goalscorers: William Hagalid 3, Vyshnave Amaranath, A J Oyekanmi, Matt Gibbs, Sam Lynch, Andre Brown, Connor Harrell and Ryan Clay. MOTM: Vyshnave Amaranath

19th Sept. 2010: Pinnstars 2  Northwood Black 3

The Wood gained an advantage before Kick Off when this away cup draw was switched to Northwood Park. After 2 narrow defeats so far this season, the Woods were looking for a moral boosting win, but went behind with only 7 minutes on the clock. The Woods were trying a new formation of 4 – 1 – 4 - 1 with the aim of protecting the defence and allowing the wide players to support the lone striker. The early set back was not what the Woods wanted.

Pinnstars pressed for a second goal as the Woods struggled to settle into the new system. However as the game went on Connor Harrell settled into his role in front of the back 4 and William Hagalid  was beginning to cause the Pinnstars defence some trouble with his pace. However it looked like Pinnstars were going to hold onto their lead as the game moved into the last 5 minute of the first half. Then the Woods were awarded a free kick on the Woods left just outside the Box. Connor Harrell to a perfect free kick which was met by William Hagalid to bring the scores level.

With the scores level at half time the Woods looked to push on to secure the win. However, 15 minutes into the second half Pinnstars scored from a low corner when the Woods were caught ball watching at the near post. After two successive 2 – 1 defeats it seemed like the same score line was going to be repeated. But 7 minutes later some good work from Mase Leung on the Northwood right resulted in a chance for Mitchell Powell on the right of the Penalty box. Mitchell made no mistake in ensuring that the 2 – 1 score line was not repeated. With the possibility of extra time looming both sides tried to get the winner but despite coming close neither side could find the net.

Into extra time and it was a case of who wanted it most as the two tired teams slugged it out looking for the winner, with both side creating chances. With 3 minutes remaining Coach Dave Harrell started to make the substitutions to ensure his penalty takers would be on the pitch at full time. The Woods attacked again and Matthew Gibbs managed to find a little bit of space on the left hand side near the by-line. Matt crossed into the box. With the defence having been drawn over to their right to try and snuff out the attack, there was plenty of space in the centre for Mace Leung to move in from the right and score unchallenged from close range. The Woods were able to see the game out to register their first win of the season and progress into round 2.

12th Sept. 2010: Northwood 1  London Colney Colts 2

As was the case last week, this was a disappointing result in a game that the Woods should have taken all three points. Playing up the hill in the first half the Woods tried to play a passing game and created a number of chances. However, the visiting goalie made a string of good saves to keep his side in the game. The biggest threat to the Woods was from the long ball, which London Colney relied on as their main attacking weapon. It was this weapon that produced the visitors’ first goal.

However the Woods were playing well enough to have brought themselves level by half time, but they just didn’t seem to have the luck in front of goal. A goal down at half time and the Woods came out for the second half showing purpose and the desire to get something out of the game. The Woods created so many chances but yet again could not get the ball into the back of the net.

Half way through the second half though, William Hagalid received the ball on the right of the penalty area and hit the ball passed a packed defence to bring the sides level. This spurred the Woods on but in their desire to “kick on” and win the game they lost a bit of their shape, and so became less effective.

Then with about 10 minutes to go, the visitors were awarded a free kick some five yards outside the box on their left. The visitors scored direct from the free kick with their only shot on target of the second half. This knocked the Woods back and despite their best efforts they could not score the gaol or goals that their efforts deserved.

Man of the Match: Kavethan Thavatheva

5th Sept. 2010: Borehamwood 2000 2 Northwood Black 1

A disappointing result in a game that the Woods should have taken at a point. Playing without any subs in their first game of the season was always going to be hard, in what was an open and fast moving game. The home side played a number of long balls early on, which stretched the Woods defence, but failed to produce a goal. The Woods tried to play their passing game, and created a couple of chances from attacks down the right flank.

Borehamwood changed tactics slightly with more attacks coming down their right side, which created a number of chances for them. However it was a long ball which produced the opener for the home team. The Woods did not let this dampen their enthusiasm or effort as they went in search of an equaliser. However they could not get back on equal terms as the half time whistle went.

With the belief that they could get something from the game the Woods continued to try and pass the ball, but it was a mistake by the home goalie that presented debutant Andre Brown with a tap in to put the Woods on level terms. This only lasted five minutes as a Borehamwood corner, delivered to the near post, rebounded off a Woods defender straight to the head of a Borehamwood player who headed home from close range. Despite their best efforts, the Woods could not find that elusive second goal.
