Match Reports 2009-10

25th April 2010: Northwood White 0 St Albans City 1

It was supposed to be bounce-back time for the Woods in this their second game of the weekend - a home encounter with St Albans City. But once again the hard graft and tireless running was repaid with defeat. While Northwood seemed to be camped in the opposition half during the first 25 minutes, clear cut chances were at a premium.
Perhaps the best effort came from the boot of man-of-the-match Omar Fouda on the stroke of half time which shaved the upright from long range, and there were speculative efforts from Bradley and Cameron. The punch to the solar plexus came ten minutes from time. It resulted from a series of neatly worked passes and a shot that just squeezed past the Woods keeper Tyler.
Two games in one weekend and two defeats. But the results really do not tell the full story of the effort put in by a Reds team that just needs to rediscover its scoring touch.

24th April 2010: Northwood White 0 Whetstone Wanderers 3

For the Woods, Saturday's encounter with Whetstone Wanderers should have been scored on chances and possession. For the home team saw a great deal of the ball for little reward and didn't deserve to lose the game 3-0. But a scuffed shot on four minutes put the visitors ahead, which was followed by a speculative long range strike 16 minutes later that saw opposition go into the half time break 2-0. Neither Whetstone efforts would normally have yielded a goal. But this what happens when the luck is against you.
And things didn't get any better in the second half as chances from man-of-the-match Toby, Bradley and James bobbled and ricocheted wide, or were saved just as they seemed destined for the net. It is a mark of this Northwood team that heads did not go down as they scrapped to get back into the game. The fighting spirit was typified by Toby, who worked tirelessly up front for zero reward. A Whetstone
third came on 45 minutes from a break-away that finally shattered the Reds' resolve. Rarely has so much toil and endeavor yield so little reward.

3rd Jan. 2010: Belmont United 2  Northwood White 2

After the cancellations of the last two games due to the snow and following the Christmas break, the boys were looking forward to playing once again and we were greeted to a glorious blue sky. Northwood whites playing in blue tops made the better start and soon started to play a very good passing game. However against the run of play, Belmont United took the lead from a well taken free kick. With 20 minutes gone, the whites equalised when George went passed two defenders to beat the keeper. The whites kept the pressure on and took the lead just before half time. Once again George struck the ball from outside the box and the keeper had very little chance of making a save. HT 1-2 .
At half time, Joe went in goal for Aaron and Luke came on to play up front. The opposition too, made a few changes and with 10 minutes gone in the second half, Belmont united equalised. Both sides had the chance to take the lead but their respective defences  held strong. Coach Paul Sharp was pleased with the boys performance bearing in mind that there has been no training or a game for over 3 weeks.

8th Nov. 2009: Northwood White 2 London Colney 0

A well deserved win for the whites, who worked hard to earn themselves a 2-0 win over London Colney. Both sides were equally matched in the first half and the half time score of 0-0 was a fair result. However in the second half, Northwood whites took control of the game. Joe replaced Aaron in goal for the second half. With 10 gone in the second half, a corner, delivered into the box by  George and after a scramble, Rohan scored his first goal for the whites. Half way through the second half, George collected the ball from almost the half way line, went passed two defenders to score an extremely good goal to give the whites a 2-0 lead. Tommy was excellent in midfield with a few well timed passes. London Colney came close to scoring but Joe made a splendid save to preserve the 2-0 lead. Thanks to Andy who was in charge of the game.

25th Oct. 2009: St Albans North 2 Northwood White 1

Match conditions were less than ideal with heavy rain and blustering wind. Northwood whites were playing a team two divisions above them. Our opponents certainly had the better of the first half and went into the half time break with 2-0 lead. However, the whites came back very strongly in the second half and were the better team. 12 minutes into the second half, a strike from Jonathan from outside the box into the top right corner gave the whites a lot of confidence.  They came close to equalising on two occasions with one free kick from Luke, hitting the post. A draw would have been a fair result but this was not to be and the final whistle was greeted with delight by both the players and parents as the rain and wind continued to make playing conditions very difficult. Coach Paul Sharpe was very pleased with the boys performance given the conditions and the opposition. Thanks go out to Andy who was in charge of the game.

18th Oct. 2009: Northwood 4 Finchley Flyers 0

Northwood whites were slow off the mark and the oppositions could have been a goal up in the first few minutes but were denied by superb goal keeping from Aaron. With 4 minutes gone, and against the run of play, Northwood whites got a goal which was scored by Luke. The whites continued to improve as the game went on. Rohan had a couple of shots on goal which were saved by the Finchley Flyers goal keeper. Tommy too came close to giving the whites a two nil lead. HT 1-0. With a few minutes gone in the second half, George made an impressive run from almost the half way line to score the whites their second goal. 15 minutes into the second half, following a scramble in opposition’s box Michael scored his first goal for the club. The whites were now in control of the game and with 6 minutes left, a shot from Ben, went through the opposition goal keepers hands. Final score 4-0. Thanks to Ben (Snr) who was in charge of the game.
PS. Barry, who has attended every single training session and every game, unfortunately missed Michael’s first goal for the club as he was chairing a committee meeting of the mothers' union which was held on the side line.

4th Oct. 2009: Muswell Hill 3 Northwood White 3

The game was changed to a friendly as the opposition pitch was marked incorrectly for this age group. Northwood whites started the better side and took the lead with 7 minutes gone. Whites were awarded a free kick and Joe gave the away side the lead. Both side were hampered by the size of the pitch. Before half time the opposition scored twice to take a 2-1 lead at half time.
Early in the second half Ben scored to equalise for the Whites. Paul used the game to try out different positions and he made various changes. With 15 minutes of the second half gone, a corner taken by Luke was met by George to give the Whites a 3-2 lead. An injury time equaliser made the final score 3-3 which was a fair result given the conditions of the pitch.

20th Sept. 2009: Northwood White 2  Bushey Rangers 1

A match played by two equal sides and Northwood whites played well to earn another win. Both sides has chances to take the lead and with 20 minutes gone in the first half, Ben Stewart playing in his first game, put his name on the score sheet with a well struck goal. At half time, whites lead 1-0. Northwood started the second half much the better side. 10 minutes into the second half, George Tillett who collected the ball from the half way line, went past two players to score a very good goal to make it 2-0. Ciaran,Tommy and Aaron were on good. Two minutes before the end Bushey Rangers got a goal back but Northwood whites were in control of the game. Well done to all the boys and thanks to Andy who was in charge on the game.

13 Sept. 2009: London Colney Colts 3 Northwood White 4

Northwood whites started well with some attractive passing football. With 10 minutes gone, a cross from Luke was met by Joe with a superb header to give the whites a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, the hard working Guymer crossed the ball in from the right for an easy tap in for Jonathan to make it 2-0 to the whites. 5 minutes before half time, Northwood whites went to sleep and the opposition came back with two goals to make it 2-2 at the interval. 4 minutes into the second half, another good cross from Joe which was scrambled into goal by Luke. With 10 minutes gone of the second half Joe got his second goal with a good strike from outside the box to make it 4-2 to the whites. The opposition made a few attempts at goal to keep Aaron busy. Joe was on top form today and came very close to getting his third goal but was denied by the post. With 1 minute left the opposition got another to make it 4-3. Northwood whites welcomed Rohan who made his first start for the club. The whole team played well but today was the “Guymer Show”.

6 Sept. 2009: Northwood White 4 Hadley Wood and Wingate 1

A very good start to the season with Northwood Whites winning 4 – 1. The visitors scored first but the whites came back well and were in full control of the game. All the boys played very well with some good football which was pleasing to the eye. HT Northwood Whites lead 2 –1. Well done to all the boys. Keep up the good work.
