Vets lose in Isthmian
Cup Final |
 |
|
Two second half goals saw Northwood go down to
a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bromley in the final of the Isthmian Veterans'
Cup at Chestnut Avenue this evening.
Woods' "old-timers" did very well to get to the
final in their second season in the competition, but goals from Jerry Dolke
(51 minutes) and a Grant Watts penalty in the 73rd minute meant that Bromley
retained the trophy they won last year. |

Woods edge out Great Wakering |
 |
|
A stunning Eugene Ofori strike early in the
game was sufficient for Northwood to take all three points against Great
Wakering Rovers in their final home Ryman One North game of the season this
afternoon. The win keeps Woods in the play-off chase, which will go right to
the wire next Saturday - make sure that you are at Ilford for the last
match! |

Under 18s
draw with leaders |
 |
|
The Woods' Under 18s gained a good point when
they drew 1-1 at Chestnut Avenue with Allied Counties League Premier
Division leaders and champions-elect Hayes last night, Aidan Lynam netting the home
side's goal.
With three games remaining, plus the Chesham
fixture to be resolved, Northwood can still avoid dropping out of the
league's top flight, but it will be tough. They are next in action at Sun
Sports next Wednesday, 22nd April. |

|
Three points for Woods |
 |
|
It took a long time for the clinching goals to
arrive, but Northwood ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over relegated
Hillingdon Borough at Chestnut Avenue this evening. The scoring was opened
in the ninth minute when ex Woods defender Gary Edwards put through his own
net, and Rob Ursell and Danny Brown added to the tally in the last fifteen
minutes.
Next up is Great Wakering Rovers at home on
Saturday....

Woods at home in Vets
final |
 |
|
Northwood had the luck when a coin was tossed
for choice of venue for the Isthmian Veterans Cup Final, and following their
3-2 wins over the Metropolitan Police and Redbridge in earlier rounds, the
Woods now take on holders Bromley next Monday night, 20th April, at Chestnut
Avenue, kick-off 7.30 p.m.
The Woods side will be packed full of former
crowd favourites such as Dave Nolan, Gary Williams and Steve Hale, and the
players range in age from Terry Hall, who is 36 in a couple of weeks time,
to 47-year-old goalkeeper Ken Lavender - should be one for the nostalgics
amongst you! |

|
A point at
Chatham |
 |
|
Northwood shared the spoils in a hard-fought
and entertaining encounter at in-form Chatham Town this afternoon, Eugene
Ofori firing home an 84th minute equaliser after the Kent side had taken the
lead fourteen minutes earlier. |

|
|
Suburban success |
 |
|
The Woods' second string kept in the Suburban
League promotion hunt when they gained a narrow 1-0 victory over Bracknell
Town at Chestnut Avenue this afternoon, Laurie Walters netting the crucial
goal.

Despite the Woods giving several first team
squad players a run-out, tonight's Suburban League game at Chestnut Avenue

Northwood reach
Isthmian Vets final |
 |
|
Northwood won through to the Final of the
Isthmian Veterans Cup this evening when they beat Redbridge 3-2 at
Chestnut Avenue. And the Woods’ hero on the night was Steve Hale, who hit a
second half hat-trick, bringing back memories of his Northwood goalscoring
exploits in days of yore.
Northwood trailed at the interval to Billy
Read's 19th minute goal, and Hale netted twice to put Woods ahead just
before the hour. Redbridge equalised in the 71st minute, but two minutes
later Steve Hale hit what proved to be the winner.
Woods' opponents in the final will be either
Bromley or Thamesmead Town, who meet in the other semi-final tomorrow night. |

Woods hit
Witham for five |
 |
|
Northwood showed no mercy for struggling Witham
Town at Chestnut Avenue this afternoon, hitting the North Essex outfit for
five without reply. Eugene Ofori and Gary Senior gave Woods a two-goal
interval lead, and further scores for Ofori, Bradley Stopher (own goal) and
Gary Burrell (penalty) brought the final result to 5-0.
Results elsewhere meant that Woods' play-off
hopes are in their own hands with four games left to play - check the
promotion countdown button for details.
The reserves won 4-2 in a friendly at Herts
County Leaguers Met Police Bushey: report

|
Under 18s hit four |
 |
|
Northwood's Under 18s gave their hopes of
avoiding relegation from the Allied Counties Youth League Premier Division
when they defeated Bisley Sports 4-1 at Chestnut Avenue this evening.
The young Woods trailed 0-1 at the break, but
Romaine Walker levelled within two minutes of the restart. Ollie Wright put
Northwood ahead on the hour, and ten minutes later Walker got his second to
make it 3-1. Emile Price's 81st minute goal wrapped up the 4-1 victory. |

Crystal Palace lined up
for pre-season |
 |
|
Whilst Dave Anderson puts the finishing touches
to his squad for the end of season run-in, he is already planning for the
next campaign, and Crystal Palace have confirmed that they will be bringing
an XI to Northwood for a pre-season friendly on Saturday 25th July, kick-off
1.00 p.m. |
|
|
|
Keeper joins Woods |
 |
|
As the season goes into its final month, Woods
manager Dave Anderson today added a further signing to the squad by bringing
in goalkeeper Warren Carter from Maidenhead United. The 19-year-old joined
the Blue Square South club last summer from local outfit Holyport. |
|
|
|
Vets Cup semi-final date |
 |
|
Northwood's Isthmian League Veterans Cup
semi-final against Redbridge has been arranged to be played at Chestnut
Avenue next Monday evening, 6th April, kick-off 7.45 p.m.
Goals from Elroy Richardson (2) and Martin
Randall gave Woods a 3-2 win against Met. Police in the last round, and
Northwood's "old" players will be hoping progress to their first final in
the competition. |
|
|
|
Point apiece at
Brentwood |
 |
|
The Woods shared the points in a 1-1 draw away
to fellow play-off contenders Brentwood Town this afternoon, in a game that
was played in an excellent spirit despite difficult conditions.
Gary Burrell fired Northwood ahead from the
penalty spot in the 77th minute after Hugo Figueiredo had been upended, only
for the home side to level, also from the 12-yard spot, in the first minute
of stoppage time. So Woods go into the final month of the season still in
contention for the play-offs, but they aren't making it easy for themselves
by dropping points in several recent outings.
Northwood reserves slumped to a 4-1 home defeat
against Beaconsfield Sycob. |

|
|
Anderson brings in
central defender |
 |
|
Northwood boss Dave Anderson today swooped to
sign experienced central defender Chris Seeby on a month's loan from Blue
Square South club St Albans City, and he is expected to make his debut at
Brentwood tomorrow.
24-year-old Seeby worked his way through the
youth and reserve set up at Clarence Park prior to making his first team
debut in February 2003. He has made 190 first team appearances, and in
September 2006 played for the England National Game XI at the official
opening of Forest Green Rovers’ New Lawn stadium. Chris has suffered with
injuries over the past 18 months, but is now fully recovered, and is
expected to be a major asset for the Woods in the final month of the
campaign. |

Top women's football at
Northwood |
 |
|
The top Ladies team in the country are in
action at Chestnut Avenue this evening, when the all-conquering Arsenal
Ladies visit Watford Ladies for an FA Women's Premier League fixture,
kick-off 7.30 p.m., and admission is very reasonable.
Arsenal have a 100% record in domestic league
and cup competitions, and have been Premier League champions in seven of the
last eight seasons, whilst Watford are currently in mid-table - though they
were beaten 6-1 in the away fixture earlier in the season.

A
point at Leyton |
 |
|
Two goals from recent signing Eugene Ofori
earned the Woods a point from a 2-2 draw in last night's Ryman One North
game at Leyton, which was watched by just forty people, a good number of
whom were following Northwood.
Former Boreham Wood striker Ofori netted his
first goal in a Woods shirt after nine minutes, only for Leyton to level
three minutes before the interval. The home side then went ahead early in
the second period, before Ofori's 66th minute leveller.
The Under 18s lost 4-2 away to Chesham United
in an Allied Counties League game. |
|
|
|
Senior signs on |
 |
|
Northwood manager Dave Anderson has added Gary
Senior from North Greenford United to his squad as he prepares for the final
run-in towards the season's end. The striker has netted nine times in 18
Combined Counties League outings for the Berkeley Fields outfit this term,
and he is expected to be in the Woods' squad for tomorrow's trip to Leyton. |
|
|
|
Bad day at the office |
 |
|
Very much a case of a bad day at the office for
the Woods this afternoon, as they crashed to a 3-0 home defeat at the hands
of fellow promotion-chasers Concord Rangers, and had keeper Mitch Swain
dismissed on the stroke of half-time. |
|
|
|
Vets win close encounter |
 |
|
Two goals from Elroy Richardson helped
Northwood to a 3-2 win over Metropolitan Police at Chestnut Avenue in
tonight's Isthmian Veterans' Cup quarter-final tie.
Richardson opened the scoring on 22 minutes,
and although Renee Grant levelled on the hour, a Martin Randall penalty
restored Woods' advantage within a minute. Grant equalised again in the 77th
minute, but Elroy Richardson grabbed the winner with seven minutes
remaining.
In the semi-final draw, Northwood were given a
home tie against Redbridge. |
|
|
|
Woods out of Allied Cup |
 |
|
Northwood's Under 18s lost their grip on the
Allied Counties Youth League Cup they won last season when they were knocked
out of this year's competition last night.
Maidenhead United were 2-1 winners at Chestnut
Avenue in the quarter-final tie, substitute Emile Price netting the young
Woods' goal. |
|
|
|
Northwood share points
at Tilbury |
 |
|
The Woods ended up with a share of the spoils
at Tilbury this afternoon, after trailing at the break following a
disappointing first half showing. Manager Dave Anderson made two
substitutions at the interval and one, Hugo Figueiredo, fired home the
leveller within seconds of the kick-off.
When Brad Hewitt put Northwood ahead on 63
minutes it looked although they might be on course for all three points, but
a defensive mix-up allowed Tilbury an equaliser, so the Woods took just one
point home.
Northwood reserves maintained their own
promotion chase with a 2-1 home win against Sandhurst Town. |
|
|
|
Woods seek groundsman |
 |
|
It currently costs Northwood FC a substantial
sum of money to employ a contractor to look after the Northwood Park pitch,
and so in these economically difficult times, the club are seeking to
recruit a local person who is willing to take on this role.
It might suit an active retired person, or
indeed anyone who has time to spare on a regular basis, and who would gain
satisfaction from seeing success from their efforts to maintain and improve
the pitch.
If you feel you may be interested, please call
secretary Alan Evans
(07960 744349) to discuss the matter. |

|
|
Redbridge hold
Northwood to a draw |
 |
|
It was stalemate at Chestnut Avenue this
afternoon, when Northwood were held to a goal-less draw by Redbridge, a side
who presented a difficult challenge.
The nearest the Woods came to breaking the
deadlock was Eugene Ofori's effort which struck the post, but Dave
Anderson's men had to settle for a draw. |
|
|
|
Woods see off Abbey |
 |
|
Northwood snatched an important winning goal in
the final minute of last night's crucial 1-0 Ryman One North victory at
fellow promotion-chasers Waltham Abbey.
On a wet and wild night, Gary Burrell fired
home the match-winner to earn Woods the three points that consolidated their
fourth place in the table. |
|
|
|
Experienced striker
joins Woods |
 |
|
Dave Anderson's long search for an experienced
striker to assist with the Woods drive for a play-off place has finally been
rewarded.
29-year-old Ghana-born attacker Eugene Ofori
has joined Northwood, after having had a rest from the game since his
release from Ryman Premier side Boreham Wood at the end of November 2008.
Ofori made his name as a front-runner with
Hendon, where Anderson has managed previously, and scored over 70 goals in
just under 200 appearances for the Greens.
He moved to Braintree Town in 2005, but failed
to win a regular place in the Conference South side's line-up despite
remaining amongst the goals. Eugene had loan spells with Boreham Wood,
Heybridge Swifts and Chesham United before leaving Cressing Road and linking
up with Boreham Wood permanently at the start of this season. |
|
|
|
First defeat in three
months |
 |
|
It was a tale of two penalties for Northwood in
today's Ryman One North clash away to fellow-promotion chasers East Thurrock
United! The Essex side took the lead just before the break when converting a
controversially-awarded spot-kick. But when a handball presented the Woods
with the chance to level in the closing stages, Rob Ursell's soft effort
from 12 yards was saved by the Thurrock keeper.
So Northwood's unbeaten League run, which has
extended for over three months, came to an end - but they will be looking to
get back to winning ways at Waltham Abbey on Tuesday.
Woods' reserves moved into second place in the
Suburban League when two late goals gave them a 3-1 win over Camberley,
Lawrie Walters, Max Moore and Jerome Cole netting. |
|
|
|
Gordon is released |
 |
|
Woods' winger Michael Gordon has been released
by the club, and he has subsequently signed for Ryman One South outfit
Croydon Athletic.
Michael played 55 games for Northwood, scoring
six times, since joining the club in January last year, and we thank him for
the service given to the Woods. |
|
|
|
Martin Phillips |
|
|
It was with much sadness that we learnt of the
sudden passing last week of Martin Phillips at the age of 37. Martin was the
brother of Northwood legend Greg Phillips.
Chairman Ian Barry said: "On behalf of myself
and all at Northwood FC, I would like to express our deepest sympathies to
Greg and his family at this most difficult of times. Our thoughts are with
you all." |
|
|
|
Allieds lose at home |
 |
|
The Woods' Under 18s slumped to a 3-1 Allied Counties League defeat at the
hands of Henley Town at Chestnut Avenue last night.
Aidan Lynam gave Northwood the lead early in the second half, but thereafter
the visitors controlled the game and ran out comfortable winners. |

North
Greenford game is
cancelled |
 |
|
The Middlesex Football Association have announced that the County's Senior
Charity Cup competition has been cancelled for this season. As a result,
this Thursday's first round tie between Northwood and North Greenford United
will now not take place.
The Woods will therefore next be in action on Saturday, when they face
another crucial Ryman League game, away to another of the promotion-chasing
sides in East Thurrock United. |
|
|
|
Woods hit by late, late
goal |
 |
|
The referee found eight minutes stoppage time in tonight's crucial Ryman One
North game at Aveley - allowing the league-leading home side to equalise in
the 98th minute!!
Northwood had taken a 27th minute lead when Bradley Hewitt headed home from
Ryan Tackley's free-kick, and although Woods may have taken a draw before
the game, it was a real blow to concede such a late leveller. |
|
|
|
Late goals see off
Maldon |
 |
|
Northwood had to work hard for the three points
in this afternoon's home Ryman One North fixture against Maldon Town, and
there was relief all round when Solomon Henry - on his home debut - coolly
netted the opener as late as the 87th minute.
And Solomon added a second goal two minutes
into stoppage time to confirm Woods' victory by a 2-0 margin.
Woods reserves maintained their own good run
with a 3-0 win at Boreham Wood today. Lawrie Walters, Dwain Williams
(penalty) and Paul Element all found the net. |
|
|
|
Anderson brings in
midfielder |
 |
|
Ahead of Saturday's home game against Maldon
Town, manager Dave Anderson has added left-sided midfielder Gary Burrell to
his squad.
The 24-year-old has joined from Tilbury, where
he has made a good impression since signing from Tiptree United. Gary
started the season at Wealdstone, where he also commenced his non-League
career, having once been a YTS player with QPR. He was part of the Stones
side that made it to the Premier Division through the play-offs and has
since had spells with Heybridge Swifts, St Albans City and Boreham Wood. |

|
Under 18s win in
extra time |
 |
|
Northwood's Under 18s narrowly came out on top
last night when they beat Camberley Town 4-3 after extra time in an Allied
Counties League Cup second round tie.
Tom Jansen, Chris Michaels, Maccabi Thomas and
Aiden Lynam were on the mark as Woods squeezed through into the next round
of the competition which they won last season. |
|
|
|
Woods win again on the
road |
 |
|
The Woods achieved their second away victory in
four days with an excellent 1-0 scoreline at much-improved Enfield Town this
evening, Michael Peacock firing home the winning goal midway through the
second half.
That made it twelve Ryman league games unbeaten
for Northwood - including nine wins - although with successive away games at
Aveley, East Thurrock and Waltham Abbey coming up soon, that record will be
severely tested!! |
|
|
|
Reserves run
extended |
 |
|
Northwood's reserves extended their unbeaten
run to seven games when they won 2-1 at Leighton Town in a Suburban League
North fixture this evening.
After trailing to the home side, Carl Hunt
levelled the scores before youngster Will Hudson fired home a deserved
winner. |
|
|
|
Under 18s go out of cup |
 |
|
Despite taking a first-half lead through Max
Duffy, the Woods' Under 18s went out of the Isthmian Youth Cup at Chestnut
Avenue last night. Northwood's youngsters lost their way after the break,
and visitors Wealdstone ran out 3-1 winners.
The under 18s are in home cup action again on
Wednesday evening, when they defend their Allied Counties League Cup against
Camberley Town.
Woods' reserves have a Suburban League game at
Leighton Town tonight (7.45 p.m.). |
|
|
|
Fixtures re-arranged |
 |
|
Northwood's Ryman One North fixture at Leyton,
which was postponed recently, has been re-arranged for Tuesday 24th March,
kick-off 7.45 p.m.
The Middlesex Charity Cup first round tie at
home to Combined Counties League side North Greenford United will now be
played on Thursday next week, 26th February, kick-off 7.45 p.m.
And the Isthmian League Veterans' Cup game
against Metropolitan Police will be played at Chestnut Avenue on Wednesday
4th March, with a 7.30 p.m. start. |

|
|
Northwood back in
action with a win |
 |
|
After their fortnight's enforced break, the Woods
took the points from a closely-contested Ryman One North clash at Cheshunt
this afternoon. Dave Anderson gave Naithan Hilaire a first-team debut, and
Anthony Page gave Northwood a 28th minute lead with a superb goal, only for
Cheshunt to level direct from a free-kick shortly after the break.
Following several near misses and some good
goalkeeping, Woods finally hit the winning goal with six minutes left, Kyle
Matthews firing home a spot-kick after Page had been fouled. |
|
|
|
Two joins Woods'
squad |
 |
|
Dave Anderson has added to his squad prior to
tomorrow's trip to Cheshunt with the signings of midfielder Solomon Henry
(pictured) from Billericay Town and free agent Dwayne Plummer, who can play
as an attacking midfielder or up front.
The 25-year-old Henry started out as a youth
with MK Dons and Leyton Orient before spending a couple of years at Barnet.
He dropped into non-League with Waltham Forest and Erith & Belvedere and has
since seen service at Leyton, St. Albans and Chesham United, before joining
the Ryman Premier side last summer.
Plummer is now 29 and has an extensive list of
clubs behind him, but with a pedigree which saw him play professionally for
both Bristol clubs, City and Rovers, the latter with success. He has played
for Dave Anderson at both Hendon and AFC Wimbledon, and spent time at
Boreham Wood and Carshalton Athletic last season. |

celebrate Valentine's Day, commencing at 8pm.
We would like as many club members and their
families as possible come to join us this Saturday evening - and have a
great time!! |

Cup tie is postponed

Tonight's Middlesex Charity Cup first round tie at home to North Greenford
United has been postponed as the pitch is still waterlogged.
The new date will be advised as soon as it has been agreed. |

The
weather wins again! |
 |
|
Once again the Woods' Ryman League fixture has fallen victim to the weather,
with tomorrow's trip to Leyton the latest to be postponed. A new date for
the game will be announced shortly.
The home Suburban League fixture against Amersham Town is also postponed, as
is Sunday's Watford Ladies v Liverpool Ladies game. |
|
|
|
Games
off |
 |
|
Not surprisingly, tomorrow's Ryman One North game away to Enfield Town has
been postponed, and will now be played on Wednesday 18th February, kick-off
7.45 p.m.
Tuesday's Suburban League game at Newport Pagnell Town is also off. |

|
|
Woods see off
Thamesmead |
 |
|
Goals from Anthony Page and Hugo Figueiredo gave Northwood a fairly
comfortable 2-0 victory over Thamesmead Town at Chestnut Avenue this
afternoon, following which the Woods moved into fifth place in Ryman One
North.
New man Pa "Daddy" Gai made a promising debut, and showed enough signs to
indicate that he will be a real asset to the Woods once he has settled into
his new environment.
Woods are in action again on Tuesday evening when they have an important
game at Enfield Town - when YOUR support would be appreciated! |
|
|
|
Woods
sign up Gambian
international |
|
|
Northwood have bolstered their attacking prowess this week with the signing
of Gambian international striker Pa Amadou Gai. The 24-year-old, nicknamed
"Daddy", has been the top scorer in the Gambian League, winning the Golden
Boot award for the past five seasons with his club Bakau United. He has
played for his country at several different age groups, as well as ten times
for the senior side in African Nations Cup qualifiers.
It
is hoped that the 6ft 3in African forward, who has signed for the rest of
the season, will make an immediate impact as he is added to the squad for
tomorrow's Ryman League clash at home to Thamesmead Town.
The club thank the Gambian FA for ensuring that international clearance was
granted with such efficiency. |
|
|
|
Battling Woods go out of
cup |
 |
|
Northwood took Ryman Premier promotion-chasers Staines to extra-time in this
evening's Isthmian League Cup fourth round tie at Wheatsheaf Park. Woods
were hit by two Scott Taylor goals in the first half before Hugo Figueiredo
pulled one back shortly before the interval.
Kyle Matthews levelled for Northwood on 58 minutes, but extra-time goals
from Howard Newton, Leroy Griffiths and Dave Sargent saw Staines
finally win 5-2 - but not before they were given a real fight!
Jake O'Meara scored twice as the reserves beat Newport Pagnell 5-1 at
Chestnut Avenue tonight, with Pa Gai, Dwain Williams and Nathan Hilaire also
netting. |
|
|
|
Dwane leaves Chestnut
Avenue |
 |
|
Northwood manager Dave Anderson has released the club's longest-serving
player, midfielder Dwane Williams, who has made 103 appearances in the red
shirt, scoring six goals. The Woods boss felt that he couldn't offer Dwane a
regular place in the side in the future, so has given him the opportunity to
move elsewhere.
Dwane, who was named Players' Player of the Year in 2007, has given great
service to the club in recent years, and we wish him all the very best in
the future. |
|
|
|
Fixtures re-arranged |
 |
|
The Woods' away game at Waltham Abbey, which was postponed on Saturday, has
been re-arranged to Tuesday 3rd March, kick-off 7.45 p.m. Northwood will now
face three difficult away trips - to Aveley and East Thurrock, as well as
Waltham Abbey - in the space on nine days, so that should test the squad's
promotion credentials!
And the postponed Middlesex Charity Cup game at home to North Greenford
United is expected to be played on Tuesday 10th February. |
|
|
|
Matches
fall to
the
weather |
 |
|
Today's game away to Waltham Abbey has been postponed due to a waterlogged
pitch.
And the home Suburban League fixture against Beaconsfield Sycob has fallen
to the same fate.
Both sides are due to be in action on Tuesday evening - the first team at Staines
Town in the Isthmian League Cup and the reserves at home to Newport Pagnell
Town. Let's hope the weather improves so that we can see some football! |

Points shared at
Chestnut Avenue |
 |
|
A close-fought game ended, perhaps
predictably, in a draw when Northwood played Wingate & Finchley at Chestnut
Avenue this afternoon. The visitors took the lead in an enthralling
encounter, with a 28th minute penalty, the award of which looked harsh.
The Woods' equaliser came from Bradley Hewitt
with twenty-five minutes remaining, and although there were chances at both
ends, the draw was a fair result.
The reserves drew 1-1 at leaders Hampton &
Richmond, leading scorer Carl Hunt hitting a second half leveller. |

|
Loan extended |
 |
|
Woods manager Dave Anderson is delighted that
AFC Wimbledon have agreed to extend the loan of defender Michael Peacock for
a further two months. He said: "Michael’s partnership with Brad Hewitt looks
a really classy one and they will only improve for playing together longer."
Dean Mason returned to the New Dons at the end
of his month's loan. |

Woods
make cup progress |
 |
|
Northwood moved into the last sixteen of the
Isthmian League Cup with an entertaining 2-0 win over Fleet Town at Chestnut
Avenue last night. Goals from skipper Mark Burgess and substitute Anthony
Page - back after injury - gave the Woods a deserved victory, and they now
await Thursday's draw to learn who their fourth round opponents will be. |

Woods' trip to leaders is

 |
|
Northwood's game at Aveley this afternoon has
been postponed as the pitch is frozen, and there is some snow in the area.
The Suburban League game at home to AFC Hayes
is also off, due to the pitch still being frozen, and tomorrow's Watford
Ladies FA Cup game has also fallen victim to the weather. |

New Years Draw winners |
 |
|
The draw for the club's New Year raffle was
made after yesterday's game and the winner of £500 was season ticket holder
Derek Green, so congratulations to him. The £250 prize went to “Chainsaw”,
who very kindly donated his winnings to the club, and Dave Gibbs collected
the £100 third prize.
Many thanks to Katrina Knott for organising
what was a very successful raffle, and thanks also to all who sold the
tickets. Congratulations to the Under 9s, managed by Dominic Trigg, who were
the youth side selling the most tickets, and they win a squad trip to
Hollywood Bowl. |

Woods keep winning run
going |
 |
|
Northwood extended their recent good run this
afternoon, when promotion-chasing Ware were defeated 2-1 at a chilly
Chestnut Avenue. The win made it six wins in seven Ryman League outings for
the Woods, who moved to fifth in the North Division table.
It was a good performance from Dave Anderson's
side, and Staforde Palmer fired them into a 16th minute lead. Darryl Wilson
levelled for the visitors, but the returning Kyle Matthews fired home what
proved to be the winner in the 42nd minute. |
|
|
|
Otis off to Bracknell |
 |
|
Woods boss Dave Anderson has agreed to allow
teenage striker Otis Williams to play for Southern League outfit Bracknell
Town on a dual-registration basis.
He said: "The arrival of Staforde Palmer on
loan and Rob Ursell's return have given us more options in the attacking
department, so Otis will play for Bracknell for a spell to get more game
time and gain experience, but we do still have first call on his services." |

Woods celebrate
Christmas with four
goals |
 |
|
New on-loan signing Staforde Palmer made his
mark on his Northwood debut this afternoon, firing a hat-trick as the Woods
ran out 4-1 winners at a bitterly cold Hillingdon Borough. Palmer notched
his first in the fourth minute, and Northwood had numerous chances
throughout the opening period to add to their tally but were thwarted by a
spirited Borough side and an excellent performance by ex Woods keeper Ben
Harris.
The home side levelled after the break,
although John Christian's strike restored Woods' lead on the hour. Staforde
Palmer struck two impressive goals in the closing stages to confirm the
visitors' win. |
|
|
|
Merry Christmas from the
Woods |
 |
|
The season's greetings to you all from everyone
at Northwood!!
Chairman Ian Barry said: "On behalf of myself
and my committee, we wish you a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New
Year. I hope to see as many of you as possible at Hillingdon Borough on
Saturday and if not, then back at Chestnut Avenue the following week when we
entertain Ware. Thank you all so much for your support and help during the
past year, it really is appreciated.
"Do not forget that the club bar will be open
from 7pm onwards on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, so please do try
and get down to have a drink or two with your fellow ‘Woods’. See you all
soon." |
|
|

Loan signing adds to
strike force |
 |
|
Manager Dave Anderson has swooped to strengthen
the club's striking prowess by signing 20-year-old forward Staforde Palmer
from Conference South neighbours Hayes & Yeading United on a month's loan.
Since the departure of Sean Sonner to Boreham Wood, the Woods have been
restricted up front with youngster Otis Williams carrying the full weight of
the attack on his shoulders.
Palmer came through the youth and reserves at
Hayes and was joint top scorer last season but has been out of favour since
the arrival of former Wood Scott Fitzgerald and the return of Josh Scott to
the club. He has recently missed several weeks through injury but returned
to the squad last week and the short-term move should benefit both clubs.
Palmer is added to the Northwood squad for Saturday's trip to Hillingdon
Borough. |
|
|
|
Three out of three |
 |
|
The Woods reserves caretaker management team of
Geoff Foster, Alan Carter and Gez Reilly made it three wins in their three
games in charge this evening. Two goals from Courtney Francis gave
Northwood's second string an excellent 2-0 win at second-placed Beaconsfield
Sycob, and our side are now just three points adrift of leaders Hampton &
Richmond Borough.
Northwood reserves take a break for a couple of
weeks, and are back in action on Saturday 10th January, when they have a
home game against AFC Hayes. |
|
|
|
Narrow victory for Woods |
 |
|
After a poor first half performance, Northwood
clinched the points with a 1-0 home win over Waltham Forest this afternoon.
Manager Dave Anderson's half-time change of personnel and tactics paid
dividends, as a much-improved showing after the break was rewarded with John
Christian's 75th minute winning goal at the end of an excellent flowing
move.
Woods reserves gained an excellent 3-1 victory
at Fleet Town, with a goal apiece from Laurie Walters, Will Hudson and Carl
Hunt. |
|
|
|
Woods edge out
Potters Bar |
 |
|
Northwood collected their third win in four
Ryman One North games when they beat Potters Bar Town 2-1 at Chestnut Avenue
last night. Ryan Tackley gave Woods the lead with a stunning free-kick just
before the break, and although the visitors levelled in the 54th minute,
Anthony Page fired home his first goal for the club a minute later for the
winning goal. |
|
|
|
League Cup opponents
decided |
 |
|
The Woods will take on Ryman One South
promotion-chasers Fleet Town at Chestnut Avenue in the third round of the
Isthmian League Cup on Tuesday 6th January.
Fleet, managed by former QPR, Spurs and England
winger Andy Sinton, ran up a 6-1 second round victory at Walton Casuals last
night, when former Woods striker Jermaine Hamilton got on the scoresheet.
Another date for the diary is Tuesday 13th
January, when Northwood are at home to North Greenford United in the first
round of the Middlesex Charity Cup. |
|
|
|
Ursell rejoins Woods |
 |
|
Northwood manager Dave Anderson has moved to
bring England Futsal international Rob Ursell back to Chestnut Avenue. The
25-year-old attacking midfielder netted twice in his six appearances in a
Woods shirt, and the talented player adds to Anderson's options.
He said: "Rob is no stranger to me, as I had
him with me for two years at AFC Wimbledon, and he can do a good job for
us." |
|
|
|
Enfield Town game off |
 |
|
Northwood's Ryman One North fixture at Enfield
Town this afternoon was called off just over an hour before kick-off due to
a waterlogged pitch.
Don't forget that the Woods are back in action
on TUesday evening, when Potters Bar Town are the visitors to Chestnut
Avenue. |

Mick Russell,
so congratulations to him. Second prize of £75

We are hopeful of even bigger
prizes for the next draw at the end of December. If you are not yet a

Woods narrowly beaten in County
Cup |
 |
|
A late goal was all that separated Hampton &
Richmond and Northwood in tonight's Middlesex Senior Cup tie at Beveree
Stadium, the Conference South promotion-chasers going through to the third
round win a 1-0 verdict. Keeper Mitch Swain was taken to hospital with a
serious leg injury during the game, and we hope that the news for him will
be good.
Courtney Francis netted twice as the reserves
got back to winning ways with a 4-0 home victory over Harefield United, Carl
Hunt and Jerome Cole also scoring. |

Barney completes
management team |

The club are very pleased to announce that Mark
Barnham, who has just completed a very successful spell as Caretaker
Manager, has accepted an offer to become our 1st team Assistant Manager on a
permanent basis.
Manager Dave Anderson commented: "I am
absolutely delighted that Mark has agreed to be my Assistant at the club. He
has done a tremendous job during the time he has been Caretaker Manager and
I look forward to working with him. Both myself and the Chairman were
extremely keen on him remaining an integral part of the 1st team staff and
now we can only look forward."
The club's Chairman Ian Barry added: "I have
made no secret of my desire to keep Mark at the club and he knows how much
he means to us. I am keen to have continuity here and Mark working closely
with Dave will no doubt benefit us, not only in the short-term, but
hopefully for a long time to come. I hope that things can now die down a
little following the major changes we have experienced in the past few weeks
and I am confident that we have now got the right expertise to take the club
forward. These are exciting times at Northwood FC and I hope that we can
continue our recent run of good form."
Dave Anderson can as usual be heard tonight on
the Non League Football Show on BBC Radio London from 8pm ...... 94.9 fm or
online. |

A
point at Great
Wakering |
 |
|
The Woods raced into a two goal lead by early
in the second half but had to settle for a 2-2 at Great Wakering Rovers this
afternoon. A Hugo Figueiredo free-kick gave Northwood a 20th minute lead and
Otis Williams made it two on 51 minutes. But two goals within two minutes
earned the hoem side a share of the spoils in a thoroughly entertaining
match. |
|
|
|
Squad Strengthened |
 |
|
Two players have been drafted in on loan to
strengthen the Woods' squad prior to tomorrow's trip to Great Wakering
Rovers. With the recent departure of Sean Sonner and Danny Murphy, both new
Manager Dave Anderson and Caretaker boss Mark Barnham were keen to find
cover, and they are delighted to have added two young, talented and
enthusiastic players from Conference South side AFC Wimbledon in Michael
Peacock and Dean Mason.
Peacock is a 20-year-old tall, centre-half who
joined Wimbledon from North Greenford United in the summer for a small fee.
Mark Barnham is well aware of his potential as he was part of his youth side
at North Greenford and made him a first-team player from an early age.
Mason, a 19-year-old attacker, also signed for
AFCW in the summer, having previously been with both Southampton and Barnet
as a YTS player. A regular substitute this season, he bagged his first goal
in an early season game against Bognor Regis Town.
Northwood would like to thank AFC Wimbledon for
arranging the advantageous deal that allows both players to spend the next
month at Chestnut Avenue and hope it proves beneficial for all parties. |

Woods drawn at home in
League Cup |
 |
|
Northwood will face another Division One South
club in the next round of the League Cup, the draw for which was made this
morning. The Woods will take on either Walton Casuals - who knocked us out
of the competition last season - or Fleet Town, who play their second round
game on Monday 15th December.
The tie will take place at Chestnut Avenue on
Tuesday 6th January, kick-off 7.45 p.m. |

Youngsters star as Woods
make League Cup progress |
 |
|
Three of Northwood's promising youngsters -
Laurie Walters, Scott Purdue and Elliott Gibbs - made their first senior
start and all performed well as the Woods stormed into the third round of
the Ryman League Cup by beating Corinthian-Casuals 4-1 at Chestnut Avenue
last night.
Otis Williams netted twice on a freezing cold
night, and debutant Scott Purdue and Hugo Figueiredo also scored in an
impressive showing from the youthful Northwood side. |

Dave Anderson is new
Northwood manager |

courtesy of BBC |

The club are pleased to announce that Dave
Anderson has today been appointed the new first team manager of Northwood
F.C. Dave has previously managed at St Albans City, AFC Wimbledon and Hendon
amongst others. Caretaker-manager Mark Barnham will take charge of the side
for tomorrow night's Ryman League Cup game at home to Corinthian-Casuals,
and the new boss will take a watching brief.
Woods Chairman Ian Barry commented: "Our
shortlisted four candidates for the job were all very impressive at
interview, so the final decision was a tough one, but I am delighted that
Dave Anderson accepted the position and I look forward to working with him.
"I must add that Mark Barnham did a superb job
in the caretaker role, and made a very positive impression in his time in
that job." |
|
|
|
Three points for Woods |
 |
|
Caretaker manager Mark Barnham made it seven
points from his three games in charge to date after Northwood ran out 3-0
winners against Ilford at Chestnut Avenue this afternoon.
Otis Williams opened the scoring midway through
the first half, then Hugo Figueiredo curled a fine free-kick into the top
corner of the net on 72 minutes. Youngster Laurie Walters came off the bench
to net the third on his debut in the closing stages. |
|
|
|
Murphy to quit Woods |
 |
|
Northwood captain Danny Murphy has asked to
leave the club. The 21 year old left-back joined Northwood from Hendon in
the summer of 2006 and has played around 100 games for the side as well as
taking over the captaincy this season. He has been almost ever-present this
season, either in his familiar left-back role or further forward in
midfield.
The player is not under contract but a 7-day
approach, e-mailed to Club Secretary Alan Evans, will be required from any
club who would like to speak to him. Permission would then be granted
immediately. |

Under 18s gain
revenge |
 |
|
Northwood's Under 18s had a satisfying Allied
Counties League Premier Division win at Chestnut Avenue this evening when
they won 3-0 against Didcot Town, who had hit six past them in
mid-September.
Goals from Ollie Wright (26 minutes) and Tyrone
Durrant (34) gave the young Woods a two-goal interval lead, and substitute
Ricky Samani hit a third in stoppage time to put the seal on the victory. |
|
|
|
Second string go out
of
County Cup |
 |
|
The Woods' reserve side went out of the
Middlesex Premier Cup this evening, ending up well beaten by Combined
Counties League first division leaders Hanworth Villa. The visitors were two
up at the interval, and eventually ran out 5-0 winners. |

Woods beat
Brentwood in a thriller |
 |
|
Northwood made it four points from six under
caretaker manager Mark Barnham when they beat Brentwood Town 3-2 at Chestnut
Avenue today. It was only the second defeat of the season for the
promotion-chasing Essex outfit, and Woods had to battle grimly for the three
points, having been reduced to ten men for the final half-hour when Mark
Burgess received a second yellow card.
Sean Sonner scored twice, once from the penalty
spot and Michael Gordon had an effort deflected in by a defender as
Northwood surged into a three-goal lead. Brentwood pulled two back as they
made the most of their extra man advantage, but Woods bravely held on for a
deserved win. |

£6.00. There will be eight sponsored races, plus live entertainment, food
and raffle. Watch out for posters with more details in the clubhouse, where
tickets for the event will be available. The sponsored races can be

Cyril Rose |
|
|
We were saddened to hear of the passing of one
of the club's long-time supporters. Cyril Rose (1922-2008) supported
Northwood Football Club since his son Steve played for the youth team in the
late 1970s. When Cyril became too ill to attend matches he arranged for the
match programmes to be sent to him so he could stay in touch, and lying in a
hospital bed the first score he wanted to know on a Saturday evening was how
Northwood had got on.
Cyril passed away last Tuesday, 11th November,
and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time. |

Woods
get the point |
 |
|
Caretaker-manager Mark Barnham
guided Northwood to a point from a 1-1 draw at Concord Rangers this evening.
Sean Sonner gave the Woods the lead in the 51st minute, but the home side
levelled with eight minutes remaining.
The reserves' Middlesex Premier
Cup tie with Hanworth Villa was postponed, whilst the Under 18s lost 1-0 at
Reading Town. |

Northwood seek
replacement for Colin Payne |
 |
|
Following Saturday's 1-0 loss at bottom club
Witham Town, a fourth defeat in our last seven league games, discussions
were held with Manager Colin Payne and, as a result, it was mutually agreed
to part company.
Colin took over from Mick Harvey back in
September 2005 and has been in charge for just over three years. In that
first season he successfully steered the side to Southern Premier survival
and the following year, despite relegation, the Woods won the Middlesex
Senior Cup for the first time in their history.
After a slow start to the 2007/08 season in
Ryman Division One North, his side gradually improved and finished in a
creditable ninth place, with things expected to improve further this season.
However, results and performances have been somewhat erratic and it was felt
at this time that a change at the helm may prove be beneficial for all
parties.
Everyone at the club would like to place on
record its sincere thanks to Colin Payne, whose enthusiasm and hard work has
steered the club through a few very difficult years. We also extend those
thanks to Coach Fred Cummings and Assistant Manager Jason Shaw for their
much-appreciated contributions. We wish them all every success in any future
involvement in football.
The club is keen to find a replacement as
quickly as possible and invite applications in writing by e-mail to Chairman
Ian Barry at
ian.barry@sprintcoms.com and copy to Secretary Alan Evans at
alan.evansnfc@btopenworld.com.
In the meantime, current Reserve Team Manager
Mark Barnham will take temporary charge of the side, starting with tomorrow
night’s game at Concord Rangers. |
|
|
|
Woods
slump to bottom side |
 |
|
Northwood slumped to a
disappointing defeat away to bottom side Witham Town this afternoon - only
the second win of the season for the Essex side. Witham shocked the Woods by
taking an 11th minute lead when a free-kick was deflected off the wall and
into the net. Sean Sonner had chance to level with a 78th minute penalty,
but the Witham keeper blocked his effort, and the striker then put the rebound over the
bar. |
|
|
|
No coach for Witham |
 |
|
It can be confirmed that due to an
insufficient level of interest expressed by supporters, a coach will not be
hired for the game at Witham Town on Saturday, for financial reasons. There
will also not be a coach for the game at Concord Rangers next Tuesday, 18th
November.
The club's officials and
management do very much value and appreciate the backing given to the team
by our loyal band of supporters, but trust that you understand the reason
for these decisions, and hopefully can arrange a lift or travel by public
transport - the ground is a 1/4 mile from Witham station.
Chairman Ian Barry commented:
"This season no team in our division has used a coach to come to us
and indeed the only two coaches to visit our ground this season belonged to
Whyteleafe and Brackley Town, both for FA Trophy games for which they can
claim back the expenses of the travel costs to us. It is a sign of the times
sadly, but we have to cut our cloth accordingly. For our recent away trip to
Maldon Town, only six supporters went on the coach and it goes without
saying that the finances simply do not work." |

Early goals blow Tilbury
away |
 |
|
The Woods raced into a two-goal
lead within the opening ten minutes in their Ryman One North clash with
Tilbury at Chestnut Avenue today, and finally won 3-1 in an entertaining
encounter.
Sean Sonner gave Northwood a
seventh minute lead and Otis Williams added the second soon after, and later
also hit the woodwork. Danny Murphy headed home a brilliant Michael Gordon
cross to make it 3-0 before the visitors netted an injury-time consolation.
The reserves won 3-0 at Amersham
Town to move into fourth in the Suburban League. |

|
|
Under 18s
hit seven in Cup |
 |
|
Northwood's Under 18s started
their defence of the Allied Counties League Cup with a comprehensive defeat
of Alton Town in a first round tie at Chestnut Avenue last night. Jake
O'Meara hit a hat-trick and Will Hudson netted twice as the young Woods
romped to a 7-2 victory. |
|
|
|
Two
out, one in |
 |
|
Following Saturday's defeat at the hands of
Brackley, Woods manager Colin Payne immediately released two members of his
playing squad, Abdul Yoki and Rob Ursell. Abdul had been with the club for
over a year, scoring nine times in 57 appearances, whilst Rob was a recent
arrival. We thank both players for all they have done for the club, and wish
them in the future.
Checking in at the club is striker Tim O’Mara,
who was signed from Spartan South Midlands Leaguers Oxhey Jets. Tim is 23
and has been the Jets’ top scorer in each of the last two seasons, netting
over 50 goals in total including 15 this season - we hope he carries on that
form in a Northwood shirt! |

Home
draw in Ryman League Cup |
 |
|
The Woods have been drawn at home to Division
One South outfit Corinthian-Casuals in the second round of the Ryman League
Cup. It will be the first meeting between the clubs since Northwood beat
Casuals 2-1 in the final of the London-Spartan League Cup at Hanwell Town
back
in May
1992. Long-time supporters will recall that Garfield Blackman and Tim
Vincent scored the goals that clinched a League and Cup "double" for
Northwood - and promotion to the Isthmian League.
The League Cup tie will be played at Chestnut
Avenue on Tuesday 2nd December, kick-off 7.45 p.m. |

Brackley storm
through Trophy tie |
 |
|
Two late goals gave Brackley Town a win of
flattering proportions at Chestnut Avenue this afternoon, the Southern
League Premier side running out 4-1 winners in the FA Trophy second
qualifying round tie.
Northwood had led at the break thanks to
Michael Gordon's 42nd minute strike, but it wasn't enough for them to hold
out after the break. |

Woody
the Woodpecker makes his
debut |
 |
|
The club's new mascot, Woody the Woodpecker,
made his debut at today's game against Brackley, and thanks to all of you
who gave him a warm welcome!
Woody the Woodpecker will be supporting the
team at future home games, and will also be regularly following the youth
section teams on Sundays, so if you missed him today, you can see him around
the place quite soon! |

Woods back on
winning track |
 |
|
An early Michael Gordon goal and a late winner
from Sean Sonner gave Northwood a merited 2-1 victory away to Redbridge in a
game played at Aveley last night.
On a cold night in front of a very sparse
crowd, the Woods even netted for the "home" side, Danny Murphy slicing into
his own net just before the hour-mark.
More good news was the return of Bradley Hewitt
after his injury absence, the central defender making an appearance from the
subs' bench. |
|
|
|
East Thurrock take the
points |
 |
|
East Thurrock United scored twice in the last
twelve minutes of this afternoon's Ryman One North game at Chestnut Avenue
to run out 2-1 winners. Otis Williams had given Northwood a 28th minute
lead, but although the home side looked the better side in the first half,
East Thurrock came back strongly after the break.
Carl Hunt netted twice as Woods' second string
recovered from a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 in a Suburban League game at
Sandhurst Town. |
|
|
|
Venue change for Tuesday |
 |
|
The Woods' Ryman One North game away to
Redbridge on Tuesday will be played at Aveley's Field Mill ground, as the
Ryman League have closed the Oakside Stadium as the floodlights there failed
the FA's b-annual check yesterday. Kick-off remains at 7.45 p.m. |
|
|
|
Reserves keep run going |
 |
|
The Woods' second string kept their recent
excellent form going last night, when they chalked up a sixth successive
victory in winning 2-1 at AFC Hayes in the Suburban League.
Northwood's goals came from Courtney Francis
and Laurie Walters. |
|
|
|
Under 18s held at home |
 |
|
Northwood's Under 18s were held to
a 2-2 draw by bottom club Oxford City at Chestnut Avenue last night in an
Allied Counties League Premier Division fixture.
Jake O'Meara and Ryan Lee netted
for the Woods, who were leading 2-1 going into the closing stages before
conceding a late leveller.

Isthmian draws
released |
 |
|
The draws for some of the Isthmian
League Cups have been released, and in the Isthmian Youth Cup Northwood will
play at home to Wealdstone in the Second Round, having received a bye in the
First Round. The Isthmian Veterans Cup sees the Woods take on Metropolitan
Police - who beat us in last season's competition - at Chestnut Avenue.
The draw for the second round of
the Ryman League Cup - all but four clubs have a first round bye - is to be
released on Friday 31st October. |

It's
Brackley Town next in
Trophy |
 |
|
Northwood were this morning drawn at home to
Southern League Premier Division outfit Brackley Town in the second
qualifying round of the F.A. Carlsberg Trophy. The tie is due to be played
on Saturday 1st November. Woods' only previous meetings against Brackley
came in the 1978-79 season, when we won both Hellenic League Division One
games and a League Cup tie, with a goal tally of 9-0. The Northamptonshire
side are currently just below mid-table in the Southern League.
The Woods' Ryman One North game away to Concord
Rangers, originally scheduled for 1st November, has now been re-arranged for
Tuesday 18th November, kick-off 7.45 p.m. |

Woods move into next
round of Trophy |
 |
|
A goal in each half from Rob Ursell helped
Northwood to a 2-0 win at Crowborough Athletic in the first qualifying round
of the F.A. Carlsberg Trophy this afternoon, despite Woods manager Colin
Payne again having to reckon without several players due to injuries.
The draw for the second qualifying round, which
is staged on Saturday 1st November, is made at F.A. headquarters on Monday.
Woods' game at Concord Rangers now has to be re-arranged, and is likely to
be played in midweek. |

Woods man gets
international call-up |
 |
|
Northwood's recent signing Rob Ursell has been
called up by new national manager Peter Sturgess to the England Futsal squad
for the Three Lions' four-team tournament in France at the end of the month,
also involving the host nation, the Netherlands and Montenegro. Rob has
previously won two England caps for the Futsal squad.
Futsal is the format of small-sided football
that is recognised and supported by FIFA and UEFA, with World and European
Championships for club and national teams. The name 'Futsal' simply combines
the Spanish words for ‘Hall’ – Sala and ‘Football’ – Futbol into Futsal. It
is a five-a-side game, played with hockey sized goals and a smaller ball
with a reduced bounce. |

Ruled-out goal costs
Woods dearly |
 |
|
A controversially disallowed goal cost
Northwood all three points against Cheshunt at Northwood Park last night.
The referee was perhaps the only person in the ground who imagined that
Richard Orlu had committed a foul before heading powerfully into the
visitors' net, but despite enjoying the bulk of the possession through much
of the game, the Woods failed once again to turn chances into goals.
Bradley Harrison gave the visitors a 3rd minute
lead when his mishit effort sailed over Mitch Swain's head, and Sean Sonner
levelled on 34 minutes. |

|
Woods go down at Maldon |
 |
|
Injury-hit Northwood slumped to a solitary goal
Ryman One North defeat at Maldon Town this afternoon, going down to a 47th
minute Jack West strike.
Woods manager Colin Payne had Bradley Hewitt,
Sean Sonner, Ryan Tackley, Lee Holland, Joe Cowen and Dwane Williams all
ruled out through injury, and he gave a return-debut to Rodney Hicks, but
the closest his side went was when Abdul Yoki hit the Maldon bar. Hopefully
some of those players will be fit to return action on Tuesday when Woods
entertain Cheshunt.
Mark Barnham's Suburban League side chalked up
their fifth successive victory when they beat Hampton & Richmond 2-0 at
Northwood Park. |

Watford's big game
postponed |
 |
|
Watford Ladies' eagerly anticipated FA Women's
Premier League game against Arsenal Ladies, scheduled for Northwood Park on
Thursday week, has been postponed due to the Gunners' Irish and Scottish
players being called up for their countries' European Championship playoffs.
The new date will be announced in due course. |

|
St
Albans trio sign on |
 |
|
With injuries leaving the squad somewhat
depleted for the trip to Maldon Town, Colin Payne signed three players on
Ryman League forms today.
All have come from St. Albans City, with one a
face familiar to Northwood supporters, as Rodney Hicks (pictured)
spent a short spell with the club last season on a dual registration with
Halesowen Town, for whom he played in the Southern Premier play-offs. The
20-year-old winger goes straight into the squad.
Joining him are two of the Saints youth and
reserve players in Craig Mortimer and Inih Effiong. Both are 17-years-old. |

Midweek defeat for
Northwood |
 |
|
The Woods took the lead at Thamesmead Town this
evening just before half-time when Abdul Yoki netted, but the South London
side hit back after the break and scored twice to claim the points with a
2-1 victory.
Sean Sonner missed the game through injury,
being replaced by Anthony Page, the only change from the side which defeated
Whyteleafe last Saturday.
On a busy night for the club, the reserves won
3-2 at Berkhamsted Town, but Woods' under 18s went down 4-1 at home to Sun
Postal in the Allied Counties League. |

Woods march on in
Trophy |
 |
|
Northwood made an excellent start to this
season's F.A. Trophy campaign, with a 2-0 win against Whyteleafe at Chestnut
Avenue today. The Woods were in fine attacking form, with their speedy
forwards making things tough for the Ryman One South visitors, who can
consider themselves to have escaped lightly - on another day Northwood would
have scored a hatful of goals. But they had to settle for a goal in
each half from Otis Williams - who was making his full debut, and he also
hit the woodwork twice.
The first qualifying round will see Northwood
travel to Crowborough Athletic in a fortnight's time: the Ryman One South
outfit beat Eastbourne Town 3-0 today. |

|
Payne adds to defensive
options |
 |
|
With Ryan Tackley attending a wedding, Colin
Payne has strengthened his defensive options for tomorrow's F.A. Carlsberg
Trophy clash with Whyteleafe by adding the experienced Mark Burgess to his
squad.
Mark has left Premier Division Boreham Wood
having been unable to hold down a first-team place after starting the first
few games for the Hertfordshire side. The 31-year-old is the brother of
James Burgess, currently at Hendon, who played for the Woods a decade ago,
and has also had three separate spells with Hendon. He has also played for
Maidenhead United, St Albans City, AFC Hornchurch, Wealdstone, Aylesbury
United, Kingsbury Town, Edgware Town and Wembley. |

Draw for Under 18s |
 |
|
Northwood's Under 18s took a point from this
evening's Allied Counties League Premier Division fixture away to Bisley
Sports.
Ryan Lee gave Woods a fifteenth minute lead,
but the home side equalised in the second half.
The youngsters are next in action on Wednesday
next week, when they play Sun Postal Sports at Chestnut Avenue. |

Three goals for
Woods |
 |
|
Northwood gave an impressive all-round display
as they sounded defeated a physical Leyton outfit 3-0 in a Ryman One North
encounter at Chestnut Avenue last night. The Woods produced some sparkling
play at times, and deserved their first-half lead given them by Bradley
Hewitt on 31 minutes.
Abdul Yoki fired home a spectacular second goal
just before the hour-mark, and Michael Gordon wrapped up the scoring when he
finished off a sweeping move.
Next up: Whyteleafe in the F.A. Trophy on
Saturday! |

|
Thamesmead date changes again |
 |
|
On Ryman League orders, the date of the Woods'
away game at Thamesmead Town has been altered again, and it will now take
place on
Wednesday 8 October, kick-off 7.45 p.m. |

|
Reserves hit eight |
 |
|
There were goals galore this afternoon at
Chestnut Avenue, when Woods' second string gained an excellent 8-3 victory
against Leighton Town in the Suburban League Cup.
The visitors took an early lead, but Otis
Williams hit a quick equaliser, and went on to claim a hat-trick. Northwood
led 6-2 at the break, and their other goalscorers were James Linehan (2),
Scott Purdue, Laurie Walters and Danny Power.
Northwood will be at home to AFC Hayes or
Sandhurst Town in the second round of the Suburban League Cup. |
|
|
|
Woods get the
point |
 |
|
An 85th minute penalty
from Sean Sonner earned Northwood a hard-fought point from tonight's Ryman
One North game at Wingate & Finchley. That equaliser came after Bradley
Hewitt was tripped by Bobby Aisen in the area,
five minutes after debutant keeper Rob Pearce had saved a spot-kick awarded
to the home side when Richard Orlu was alleged to have tripped Wayne
Grant.
Ahmed Rifat had given Wingate the lead in the
40th minute, hooking the ball in after
Pearce was unable to collect a corner which swirled in the wind. |
|
|
|
Northwood slump to Abbey |
 |
|
The Woods crashed to a disappointing home
defeat yesterday at the hands of a competent Waltham Abbey side, who merited
all three points, scoring in first half stoppage time and then again in the
closing stages of the game, to take away a 2-0 victory.
Colin Payne will be hoping to see a return to
form from his side when they make the difficult trip to Wingate & Finchley
on Tuesday evening. |
|
|
|
Payne strengthens
his squad |
 |
|
Woods Manager Colin Payne has strengthened his
squad prior to tomorrow's important clash with Waltham Abbey by signing
attacking midfield player Robert Ursell.
The 25-year-old starred at Harefield United
before moving to AFC Wimbledon in 2004 and scoring over 20 goals from
midfield in his first season. His prodigious skills earned him a call up to
the England Futsal squad, but injuries restricted his appearances the
following season and he had a short loan spell at Wealdstone, playing some
football at Chestnut Avenue.
Unable to force his way back into the Wimbledon
side, and still inflicted by knee injuries, he moved to Carshalton Athletic
and enjoyed an extended spell there last season. This season he played, and
scored, against the Woods in pre-season for Hendon but then signed for
Walton Casuals and, more recently, Chertsey Town.
As he starts life at Northwood, Rob will be
hoping to get back to the kind of dazzling form that earned him so many
plaudits and had the scouts flocking during his Wimbledon days. |

Woods look to fill
important roles |
 |
|
The club are currently looking for a Social
Secretary, a Commercial Manager and anyone who wishes to join the committee
who has time to spare and is committed to the club, as there are various
roles that need doing, especially on match days. Two of the important roles
are stewarding and the 50:50 draw.
As you can see, all of these roles go a long
way in helping us maximise income and are very important to the success of
the club. If you think one of these roles could be for you, or you require
more information, then please do contact the Chairman, Ian Barry, on 07956
121300 or email him at

Reserves take the
points - just! |
 |
|
Mark Barnham's reserve side just edged in front
of visitors Boreham Wood in today's Suburban League game at Chestnut Avenue,
running out 3-2 winners after being two up at the interval.
Russell Miner gave Woods a 10th minute lead and
Anthony Page made it two on 28 minutes.
Boreham Wood battled back strongly after the
break, and netted after 48 and 72 minutes, before leading scorer Carl Hunt
fired home a spectacular strike for Northwood's winner with five minutes
left on the clock. |

Youth Cup |
 |
|
The Woods'
Allied Counties side went out of the F.A. Youth Cup at the first hurdle this
evening, when they went down 4-2 to Redbridge in a Preliminary Round tie at
Chestnut Avenue.
Jamie Tompkins and Chris Michael were on target for Northwood. |
|
|
|
Woods take the
points |
 |
|
A
63rd minute penalty scored by Sean Sonner was sufficient for Northwood to
take all three points from tonight's Ryman One North game at Potters Bar, to
put the Woods on 13 points from their opening six league fixtures. |

Woods just see off
Chatham |
 |
|
It
took a late goal from Michael Gordon to clinch a well-deserved win for
Northwood in their first-ever meeting with Chatham Town at Chestnut Avenue
today.
The Woods played particularly well in the opening period, and led through
Sean Sonner's 11th minute strike. But Dave Botterill levelled for the Kent
side in the 69th minute - before Michael Gordon half-volleyed home the
winner with five minutes left on the clock. |
|
|
|
Under 18s start with
a win |
 |
|
Northwood's Under 18s got their defence of the Allied Counties League
Premier Division title off to a good start when they won 2-1 away to
newly-promoted Henley Town yesterday evening.
But the home side took the lead, Ryan Lee levelling before substitute Aidan
Lynam hit a late winner. |
|
|
|
Reserves score three -
and lose |
 |
|
In
an entertaining game, the Reserves last night lost their first home Suburban
League match of the season when they went down by the odd goal in seven to
an impressive Leighton Town side.
Abdul Yoki and Carl Hunt (2) were the Woods' marksmen. |

Woods go out of
F.A. Cup at first hurdle |
 |
|
Northwood ended their interest in this season's
F.A. Cup competition today, when a lacklustre performance at Chestnut Avenue
resulted in Metropolitan Police running out 2-0 winners with goals at the
end of each half.
A last-minute goal condemned the reserves to a
2-1 defeat at Cove after Laurie Walters had given them the lead. |

Watford Ladies enjoy
first Northwood game |
 |
|
Watford Ladies were very pleased with their
first game at Chestnut Avenue last Sunday. Rob Clarke, Watford FC's Girls &
Women's Development Manager, said: "I would like to say thank you to the
club's bar & facilities team for a very successful debut home game at
Northwood, even if we did make hard work of the result!
"Everyone at Northwood was very attentive and
made the running of the day extremely smooth. Could I pass on our thanks to
the guys and girls for their input." |

Allieds continue
warm-up success |
 |
|
The Woods' Allied Counties squad maintained
their pre-season form with a stylish performance at the Middlesex Stadium
home of Hillingdon Borough yesterday evening.
Woods fought back after conceding within two
minutes to secure a 3-1 victory. Goals from Olly Wright, Jamie Tompkins and
Ryan Lee earned Northwood the win with an impressive second half
performance. |
|
|
|
Goals galore |
 |
|
The Woods' reserves bounced back from their
first defeat of the season at the weekend to fire six goals without reply
past Suburban League leaders North Greenford United last night.
Carl Hunt netted in the first minute, but there
was no further scoring in the opening half. Otis Williams added the second
three minutes after the restart, then ten minutes later Jack Bennett made it
3-0. Further goals came from Danny Brown, Danny Power (penalty) and a second
for Carl Hunt. |
|
|
|
Woods
crash to Ware |
 |
|
The bubble burst this afternoon, as Northwood's
bright start to the season came to a juddering halt with a 5-1 defeat at
Ware. Three goals came for the home side in the last five minutes to give a
false look to the final scoreline, but this was a very disjointed and
unconvincing performance from Colin Payne's men.
Woods' goal, to make the scoreline 2-1, came
from debutant substitute Otis Williams, formerly a youth team player at
Rochdale. |
|
|
|
Watford start with a win |
 |
|
There was a good crowd to watch Watford Ladies
play their first game at Northwood Park this afternoon, and they were
rewarded with a home win.
Nottingham Forest, newly promoted to the FA
Women's Premier League, led twice but Watford hit back to run out 3-2
winners in an entertaining game.
Watford's next home game is against Leeds
Carnegie on Sunday 7th September, kick-off 2.00 p.m. |

|
Goal-less at Chestnut
Avenue |
 |
|
This afternoon's clash of two of the early
season front-runners finished goal-less at Chestnut Avenue, where Northwood
and Aveley fought out a tough draw.
The Essex visitors just about edged the first
half, but the Woods came back strongly after the break, hitting the woodwork
twice - with some close observers claiming that John Christian's 35-yard
drive crossed the line after it struck the bar, before bouncing clear.
Sadly, the linesman wasn't Russian!
Northwood are back in action on Monday, with a
Bank Holiday trip to Ware. |

Impressive start for
Allieds |
 |
|
Northwood's Allied Counties squad made a
impressive start to their pre-season programme last night when they overcame
a physical North Greenford United side to secure a convincing 5-1 victory.
Jake O'Meara netted twice, and new signings Max
Duffy (2) and Dan Briggs completed the scoring as Woods dominated
proceedings.
The Under 18s start the defence of their
Premier Division title on Wednesday 3rd September with a trip to
newly-promoted Henley Town. |

|
|
Woods put four past
Enfield |
 |
|
Northwood went top of the fledgling Ryman One
North table after an impressive 4-0 defeat of the highly-fancied Enfield
Town at Chestnut Avenue last night. John Christian gave Woods a seventh
minute lead and a couple of minutes later Bradley Hewitt got a second with a
superb headed goal. The central defender got his second after the break
before Terry Davies wrapped things up with the fourth with ten minutes
remaining. |
|
|
|
Reserves get the point |
 |
|
The Woods' young reserve side came from two
goals down to take a point from a 2-2 draw in last night's Suburban League
game at Harefield United.
A goal in each half - the second in the closing
minutes - from Danny Brown earned Northwood a point. The reserves play at
Bracknell Town on Saturday. |
|
|
|
Off to a win |
 |
|
Northwood got their Ryman League season off to
a winning start this afternoon when they collected a 1-0 victory on Waltham
Forest's new shared ground at Cricklefield Stadium, Ilford.
Terry Davies netted the all-important goal in
the 25th minute, and on a very disappointing playing surface, Colin Payne's
side could and should have won far more comfortably. But three points it
was, and the Woods now turn their attention to Tuesday's home game with
Enfield Town.
Woods' reserves made a successful return to the
Suburban League, beating Fleet Town 4-1 at Chestnut Avenue. |
|
|
|
Taj's first call-up |
 |
|
The Woods' 17-year-old
forward Aryan Taj, who is now on Football League forms with Barnet on a dual
registration basis, received his first senior call-up for the Bees this
week. Aryan was named as one of the Cola Coca League Two club's substitutes
for Tuesday's Carling Cup game away to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Sadly, it
wasn't a fairytale evening - Arjan didn't get off the bench and Barnet lost
4-0. But no doubt the exciting youngster will have further opportunities in
the near future. |
|
|
|
Sign up for Woods'
Summer Soccer School |
 |
|
Next week there will be the opportunity for your
youngsters to receive some summer football coaching from an ex-Chelsea star!
The former Blues midfielder Eddie Newton, scorer for Chelsea in the 1997 FA
Cup Final, will be heading up the Northwood F.C. Summer Soccer School which
takes place at the club!
The Soccer School, which is for youngsters
aged 6 to 14 years, will run from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd August, and is
certain to be popular. Boys and girls of all abilities are welcome, but places are limited, so early booking is advised.
All coaches are F.A. qualified and C.R.B.
checked. Northwood F.C. is an F.A. Charter Standard club. |
|
|
|
Three goals in final warm-up game |
 |
|
Northwood wound up their pre-season programme
with a 3-0 victory over Southern League outfit Burnham at Chestnut Avenue
this afternoon. The visitors threatened several times in the first half,
before Terry Davies gave the Woods the lead in the 39th minute.
The former Slough front-man added a second
twelve minutes after the break before Sean Sonner made it 3-0 after 68
minutes.
Carl Hunt hit a hat-trick as the reserves won
4-1 at Headstone Manor in a friendly, Fidel Williams getting the other goal. |
|
|
|
Good year for Aryan |
 |
|
It's been a
good year for Northwood's 17-year-old Aryan Tajbakhsh, who scored his first
senior goal for the club on Tuesday night at Arlesey Town. Back in May he
was selected to take part in the Cesc Fabregas show and appeared alongside
the Arsenal and Spain star in a contest designed to show how well each
player controlled the ball.
Today the
Woods allowed the youngster to sign on dual-registration non-contract terms
with Coca-Cola League Two side Barnet, and he could even be in their squad
for the opening game against Chesterfield tomorrow. Aryan has been training
with the Bees for the past two weeks and has certainly impressed Manager
Paul Fairclough with a couple of appearances in warm-up games. |
|
|
|
Tough County Cup draw |
 |
|
The Woods have been handed a tough opening tie
in this season's Middlesex Senior Cup competition, as they have been drawn
away in the second round to the holders, Blue Square South outfit Hampton &
Richmond Borough. The winners will have a quarter-final away game at
Wealdstone, Wembley or Tokyngton Manor.
Northwood Park will stage the final of the
Middlesex Senior Cup on Easter Monday, 13th April, kick-off 7.30 p.m. -
let's hope that Colin Payne's team are involved in that one! |

Woods draw friendly |
 |
|
Northwood shared the spoils at Arlesey
Town in this evening's pre-season friendly at Hitchin Road. The
Woods gave an encouraging performance for much of the night, but
were shocked to go behind in the 11th minute following virtually the
first attack from the home side.
Despite dominating much of the play,
Northwood took until 76 minutes were on the clock before levelling -
but it was a great goal when it arrived. After a typical jinking run
from Michael Gordon, the ball found Terry Davies, whose cross to the
back post was brilliantly volleyed home by 17-year-old Aryan Taj. |

FA
launches Respect
campaign |
 |
|
The FA are today launching their
Respect campaign, which is aimed primarily at two key areas: Respect
the ref, and Respect from the touchline towards not only the ref,
but to the players and opposition too.
We recently reported at
northwoodfc.com that England
manager Fabio Capello was at Northwood Park for the filming of the
campaign video as a pro-celebrity game descends into a farce with no
referee available. Click the links in the menu to the left to see the viseo and how it was made. |

Northwood hit five |
 |
|
Terry Davies hit two goals as the Woods raced
to a 5-1 pre-season friendly victory over Spartan League visitors Harefield
United at Chestnut Avenue today.
Dwain Williams shot home after three minutes to
give Northwood the lead, and Jack Bennett's 27th minute strike made it 2-0,
but a minute later former Woods defender Gary Williams pulled one back with
a header.
Two minutes from half-time Terry Davies' tap-in
gave the home side a 3-1 advantage, then after the break Ryan Tackley forced
home Danny Murphy's corner for number four. Davies wrapped up the scoring
with his second of the afternoon with nine minutes remaining. |
|
|
|
Boro edge out Woods |
 |
|
Battling Northwood made Conference favourites
Stevenage Borough work hard for their 3-1 victory in tonight's pre-season
friendly at Chestnut Avenue.
After a goal-less first half, Adrian Abramian
gave Woods a 49th minute lead. Craig Westcarr levelled on 58 minutes before
Jerome Anderson's cross found the net to give the visitors a fluke lead
after 71 minutes. Lawrie Wilson wrapped things up for Boro with a fine 79th
minute effort, but this was a very useful workout for Colin Payne's squad. |

Good reserve showing |
 |
|
A young Woods reserve side gave a good
performance last night as they won 4-0 at Kodak. Three of the goals were

Hit for four |
 |
|
The Woods' promising pre-season form came to a
juddering halt this evening when they crashed to defeat at Spartan Leaguers
Chalfont St Peter.
With the game with Stevenage Borough in two
days' time, Northwood fielded an under-strength side at Chalfont, and paid
the price, trailing 4-0 at the interval. Despite introducing some more
regular starters at half-time, Woods were unable to make any impression on
the scoreline. |

this afternoon's pre-season friendly at Chestnut Avenue.
Sean Sonner headed home a Danny Murphy cross to
give the Woods a 33rd minute lead, but Rob Ursell levelled for Hendon eleven
minutes into the second half.
The Reserves won 3-2 at Met. Police Bushey,
where Hugo Figueiredo and Scott Purdue were on the mark. Woods' youth team
were also successful, running out 3-1 winners in a friendly. |

Barnet beaten at
Chestnut Avenue |
 |
|
The Woods defeated Football League opposition
for the first time ever when League Two Barnet went down 3-1 at Chestnut
Avenue in tonight's pre-season friendly.
Abdul Yoki fired Northwood into a third minute
lead and Michael Gordon made it 2-0 three minutes later. Gordon put Woods
three up in the 23rd minute, and Barnet's solitary reply was a 34th minute
penalty, given for handball, despatched by Luke Medley. |

Woods hit back to win |
 |
|
Northwood hit back from a goal deficit to win
2-1 in this afternoon's pre-season friendly at Metropolitan Police.
After a goal-less first half, the home side
took the lead, only for Michael Gordon to level the scores with a superb
individual goal. And then Danny Julienne popped up with the Woods' winner,
to make it two wins from the first two outings. Colin Payne's squad may find
it tough to maintain that record, as they take on League Two outfit Barnet
at Chestnut Avenue next Wednesday.
A Northwood XI played at Essex Senior League
Romford today, drawing 1-1, while a youth side played
Harefield United at Brunel University and lost 3-2. |

England boss visits
Northwood |
 |
|
The new England manager Fabio Capello is
clearly already eyeing up his next job in football - yesterday morning he
paid a visit to check out Northwood Football Club!
The Italian was at Chestnut Avenue during the
filming of a Football Association "Respect The Ref" feature, and we have
photographic evidence here, which shows that he evaluated the condition of
the playing surface, as well as the clubhouse... Click the menu to the left to see photos of Fabio's visit to the Woods. |

Pre-season gets underway
with a win |
 |
|
The Woods came out on top in their opening
friendly last night, running out 2-1 winners against AFC Wimbledon at
Chestnut Avenue. Both clubs fielded strong sides in the first half, before
the inevitable lengthy list of substitutions after the break.
Adrian Abramian gave Northwood a 10th minute lead
with a well-taken goal, and the New Dons levelled through Elliott Godfrey in
the 24th minute. Former Slough Town striker Terry Davies hit Woods' 71st minute winner. |

Woods
need help!! |
 |
|
Preparations for the
2008-09 campaign are well underway, and with the pre-season games starting
soon, there is still plenty to do around the ground and in the clubhouse.
All this week, from
Monday to Friday, we hoped to get as many helpers as possible down to the
club, to do a number of jobs that need to be completed in advance of the big
kick-off. So far just a few people have been able to find the time to get
involved, and their help is very much appreciated, but Chairman Ian Barry is
keen that more supporters come to lend a hand during the remainder of the
week. "I know that people have busy lives, but if you can spare even a few
hours it would be a great help", he said. |

friendly would still be played - but both men can be expected to keep their
cards close to their chests in the warm-up encounter! |

Metropolitan Police at Chestnut Avenue in the F.A. Cup preliminary round on
30 August, with the winners being at home to Southern League Corby Town in
the next round a fortnight later.
The F.A. Trophy sees the Woods entertain
Whyteleafe, another Ryman South club, in the preliminary round on 4 October.
The prize for the successful club is a trip to the winners of the all-Ryman
South tie between Crowborough Athletic and Eastbourne Town.

Woods back in Suburban
League |
 |
|
Northwood reserves have returned to the
Suburban Football League for season 2008/09, after being elected at the
League's AGM at Sutton United FC last night.
After two successful years playing in the
Capital League, while the Woods allowed Wealdstone to share their Chestnut
Avenue facilities, manager Mark Barnham is delighted that his side are able
to play weekend football once again.
The Woods were in the Premier Division when
they left the league but must now start back in the North Division, from
which they were promoted back in 2004.
There are 19 teams in the division, as follows:
AFC Hayes, Amersham Town, Beaconsfield SYCOB, Bedfont, Bedfont Green,
Berkhamsted Town, Boreham Wood, Bracknell Town, Camberley Town, Cove, Fleet
Town, Hampton & Richmond Borough, Harefield United, Hillingdon Borough,
Leighton Town, Newport Pagnell Town, North Greenford United, Northwood and
Sandhurst Town. |

New Assistant Manager
appointed |
 |
|
As preparations for the
new season continue, there is a change on the club's management side, with
the appointment of Jason Shaw as Assistant Manager.
Jason is a 37-year-old
creative midfield player who began his career at West Ham as a youth. He
then played for Redbridge Forest and Dartford before joining Harrow Borough
for a very successful spell. From there he played for Boreham Wood and
Hampton before joining Wealdstone in 2001.
He spent five seasons
with the Stones before injuries began to stop him playing regularly. In
recent seasons Jason has played locally with Bedfont and Beaconsfield
Sycob but he now turns his attention towards coaching and assisting manager
Colin Payne, who played alongside him at Harrow.
Jason replaces Dave
Lester, who stood down from the role due to work commitments, and we thank
him for all his efforts during last season. |
