Woods go out of Velocity Trophy

Northwood went out of the Velocity Trophy this evening, going down 1-3 to Bostik North outfit Felixstowe & Walton United in a second round tie.

The Suffolk side went ahead midway through the first period, and Dan Newton's headed goal from a Kweku Conrad-Lucan corner levelled the scores, only for Felixstowe to net again just before the break.

There was plenty of pressure for a Woods equaliser after the break, but instead the home team scored a third in the 89th minute, and they will play away to Egham Town or Bracknell Town in the third round. The match report and photos are here.

South Park hold Woods to a draw

Despite taking an early lead and being two goals ahead just after the half-hour mark, Northwood were held to a 2-2 Bostik League draw by South Park at the Acretweed Stadium this afternoon.

The Woods got off to a fine start when Ben Pattie struck home a low shot after six minutes, and the home side created plenty of chances as they dominated the opening half-hour, and Sam Tring added a second goal following a corner (pictured) in the 31st minute.

But the Surrey visitors pulled a goal back on 37 minutes, Luke Sheldrick making a flying save but was unable to keep out the follow-up effort. Northwood's performance inexplicably dropped after the break, and South Park levelled midway through the second period to take a share of the points.

First goalscorer Ben Pattie was presented with the Active IT Northwood man of the match award after the game. The match report and photos are here. In case you missed it, the 50/50 prize-winning ticket was 355, paying £61.

Good County Cup win for Northwood

The Woods moved into the second round of the Middlesex Senior Cup with a comfortable 3-0 victory away to AFC Hayes of the Combined Counties League this evening.

After going close early on, Northwood went ahead on 34 minutes when Ned Clarke netted his first goal for the club after Ben Pattie headed the ball on. The visitors created a number of chances before Brendan Ocran also got his first Wood strike, firing in a Sam Jenkins cross in the 68th minute.

And with thirteen minutes remaining on the clock Ben Pattie headed home from Matt Cooper's free-kick to wrap up the victory, and clinch a second round tie away to Harrow Borough. The match report is here.

Missed chances cost Woods in Trophy

Several first half misses cost Northwood dearly this afternoon as they crashed out of the Buildbase FA Trophy, going down 2-0 at Dunstable Town in a preliminary round tie.

The Woods created a number of good chances in the opening period but failed to take any, then were stunned when Dunstable went ahead three minutes after the restart. And the Southern League side confirmed their win with a clinching second goal six minutes from the end. The match report and photos are here.

Woods boss Dean Barker said afterwards: "We could have been five goals up at half-time, but when you fail to take your chances it can come back to bite you. It was a disappointing second half performance, but they had two shots on target and won 2-0."

Northwood's Under 18s drew 2-2 at home to Hayes & Yeading in the Isthmian Youth League on Thursday evening, with Kyran Worrell and Kyle Matthew on target. Three of our youngsters, Kyran Worrell, Jamie Fulton and Caolan Doyle, took part in the Middlesex Under 18s trials today - good luck to them all!

Penalty shoot-out win in County Charity Cup

A thrilling penalty shoot-out saw the Woods through to the second round of the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup this evening, after their tie away to Bostik League Premier Division outfit Wingate & Finchley had finished goal-less after 90 minutes.

And Northwood had a perfect penalty record on the night, Keir Dickson, Karl Stevenson, Stefan Powell and Matt Cooper all netting before Sam Tring shot home the final kick as Woods won 5-3, a fine victory for manager Dean Barker on his return to his previous club. The match report is here.

Making his debut this evening was new signing from Barking, Brendan Ocran, who previously played at Colchester United and Billericay Town. Brendan, like Carl Pearce and Ben Pattie (on stand-by) has been selected for the England FA XI visit to the Falkland Islands next month. Also joining the Woods is striker Dan Petts from Edgware Town, for whom he netted 20 goals last season. We welcome both players to Northwood!!

Three points for Northwood at Westfield

Super sub Hakim Nyariki was Northwood's hero this afternoon, as the youngster scored twice to help the Woods to all three Bostik League points at Westfield in our first-ever game against last season's Combined Counties League champions.

Hakim replaced the injured Chris Gosling early in the game, although there was little to report during the first half on a very wet day. Nine minutes after the restart Nyariki fired home his first goal for the club (pictured) from a well-worked Matt Cooper corner, but the home side were then awarded a penalty for a very dubious alleged handball; top scorer Carder-Andrews duly despatched the spot-kick.

But the determined Woods side were not to be denied, and on 88 minutes, Ned Clarke fired in a shot which the home keeper could only parry, and Hakim Nyariki shot home the winner from five yards. The match report and photos are here.

This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for Carl, and hopefully Ben too, to represent The FA on such a visit and we congratulate both players on their selection and their representation of our club.
