Karl and Emmanuel check-in

Two new players to announce for the Woods today, with  Karl Stevenson and Emmanuel Rowe signing up ahead of the new season.

Defender Karl (pictured left) has played Step 3 football for Wingate & Finchley and Hayes & Yeading, before having a spell at Hanwell Town last season.

Also joining was attacking player Emmanuel (left), who was a professional at Crawley Town and has played Step 3 football with Chesham United. He ended last term at Hoddesdon Town.

We welcome both players to the club!

Dean Barker in-depth with Matt Ford

Dean Barker was appointed Northwood manager earlier in the summer, and having already signed a number of new players, he kicked-off pre-season training at the start of this week.

So who is Dean Barker? What is his football background? What are his plans for our club?

This week, up and coming local journalist Matt Ford had a long chat with the new Woods boss, and you can find the answers to these questions and more in his in-depth interview, which is here.

Kieran joins the Woods

One more piece of signing news to bring you today! Former Plymouth Argyle trainee Kieran Asumadu-Sakyi has joined the Woods, having finished last season with Hoddesdon Town and briefly at Codicote.

The central midfielder is 22 years old and appeared for Chesham United, Enfield Town and Billericay Town before playing for Cockfosters under Dean Barker and then for Hoddesdon. Also registering was head coach Ben Andreos, an experienced player, who will be used when needed on the playing front throughout the season.

Additionally, all the players who finished last season have been invited back for pre-season - which starts on Monday!

Five more players sign on

Dean Barker continues to be active in recruitment with pre-season training just a week away, as another five players have registered for the forthcoming campaign.

Returning to Chestnut Avenue is the experienced central defender Jonathan Munday (right), who previously had a spell with the Woods in 2015/16, playing eighteen times and scoring one goal before injuries ended his involvement. Jon started his playing career at QPR and the 30-year-old has been well travelled in thenon-League circuit. However last season he enjoyed an injury-free campaign as he skippered Berkhamsted to promotion from the Spartan South Midlands League and was also amongst the goals, getting into double figures.

Matt Cooper (left) came up through the youth ranks here at Northwood and was in our Isthmian Youth League side back in 2012/13. After that he played for Ascot United when the Berkshire side reached the FA Vase quarter-finals and the 23-year-old has enjoyed three very good seasons at Biggleswade United where he also captained the side.

Ben Pattie (right) is a former professional with QPR who had loan spells with Woking and Hendon plus a short spell at Folkestone Invicta. Ben is still only 21 and spent last season with Wingate & Finchley, being a prolific scorer in their Under-23 side and also getting amongst the goals for the first team in the Bostik Premier.

Central midfielder Cameron Ferguson (left) joins the Woods having been named Player of the Year at Hadley FC. He started last season with Cheshunt at Step 4 and the 21-year-old has also appeared for St Albans City and Cockfosters.

Finally, for now at least, Dean Barker was delighted to secure the services of goalkeeper Luke Sheldrick (right) for the new season. Australian-born Luke appeared for Sydney Olympic and APIA down-under before moving to the UK and he has appeared for Wealdstone, Cockfosters, Hampton & Richmond Borough and Wingate & Finchley over the last two seasons. The 22-year-old will be looking to ensure that number one spot is his own this season.

Barker starts recruitment

Manager Dean Barker has secured the services of his first three players as he looks to build his squad ahead of the new season with pre-season training just three weeks away, starting on Tuesday 26th June prior to the big pre-season game against Chelsea on Saturday 14th July.

First to put pen to paper was prolific striker James Ewington (pictured left), who joins the club after a superb season for Harpenden Town where he ended up as the Spartan South Midlands League Golden Boot winner with 39 goals in 37 League matches. He also banged in 8 more in cup competition to end up just short of 50 goals for the season. James is 28 years old and has played for both Enfield Town and Potters Bar Town as well as having spells with Hertford Town, London Colney, Colney Heath and Welwyn Garden City.

Also registered is 21-year-old defender Carl Pearce (right), who played in the Bostik Isthmian Premier League for Wingate & Finchley last season before finishing the campaign in the Potters Bar Town squad that won promotion to that higher level. Carl also played at Wembley for several years.

Finally, for now at least, Chris Gosling (left) has also joined the Woods. He is a central midfielder with bags of potential who played a number of games in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier for Kings Langley at the start of the last campaign before being dual-registered with Leverstock Green. Only 19, Chris was with Luton Town Cedars as a youth; the same team that Woods loanee defender Sam Tring played in before joining Kings Langley in 2017.

More signings will be announced as and when they happen over the next couple of weeks.
