Hard-earned win for the Woods against Uxbridge

A cracking 25-yards half-volley from Harry Gallagher, scored as early as the seventh minute, proved to be the only goal of Northwood's Pitching In Isthmian League South Central Middlesex derby against Uxbridge at The Skyline Roofing Stadium this evening.

But after the bright and encouraging start to the game, Uxbridge clawed their way back into it, and in the second half particularly, the Woods were often on the back foot as the visitors strove for an equaliser - but they showed great resilience to hold onto the three points, demonstrating great character through the squad!

Shane Cojocorel signs prior to Saturday's victory

Prior to Saturday’s victory against Ashford Town, we were delighted to welcome attacking midfielder Shane Cojocarel to the Woods, and he enjoyed a fine debut in that game!

Shane previously had a short spell with us on loan from Barnet in 2016, when he made three appearances. He has now joined Northwood from FC Romania, having won promotion through the play-offs with Cheshunt in 2019 and has also played for Billericay Town, Met Police, Merstham, Horsham and Maldon & Tiptree. Although English-born, Shane played twice for the Romania Under 16s side.

We hope that Shane enjoys his time with our club!!!

Woods defeat Ashford Town 3-1 at The Skyline Stadium

The Woods got back to Pitching In Isthmian League South Central winning ways this afternoon with a good all-round performance against Ashford Town Middx at The Skyline Roofing Stadium, running out 3-1 victors.

Goals from Gareth Chendlik and Dan Williams, making his home debut, put Northwood in a strong position at the interval, and Williams added a second goal in the second half - a display which won him the Man of the Match award. Ashford netted a consolation goal, through ex Wood Lindell Stewart in stoppage time. The victory moved Woods back into third spot in the table.

Woods U18s go out in Isthmian Youth Cup semi-final

Northwood’s Under 18s took a two-goal lead against Metropolitan Police in this evening's semi-final of the Isthmian Youth Cup played at The Skyline Roofing Stadium.

But the boys in blue hit back, and although Woods led 2-1 at the break, the visitors were stronger in the second half and ran out 4-2 winners.

Fabjan Toci and Tom Reid scored the early goals, and although it was disappointing to fall at this stage, well done to the lads for a great cup run!

Woods defeat Wealdstone in Middlesex Charity Cup shoot-out

Ten-men Northwood recovered from a two-goal deficit to win on penalties against Wealdstone in the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup at The Skyline Roofing Stadium this evening.

The Woods were trailing 0-2 having had Brandon Kalu dismissed before the fightback began, Micah Jackson finding the net before Dan Williams levelled the scores, taking the game to a penalty shoot-out. And Northwood held their nerve and came out on top 7-6 from the spot!

The match report is here. Northwood will entertain Spartan South Midlands Leaguers St Panteleimon in the quarter-final.

Northwood lose by single goal at Merstham

The Woods' disappointing run of Pitching In Isthmian League South Central results continued this afternoon when they went down by a single goal away to struggling Merstham.

Merstham's goal arrived two minutes into first half stoppage time, and with Basingstoke, Walton & Hersham and Marlow all winning, Northwood dropped to fourth in the table, their lowest placing for months - next week's home fixture against Ashford Town now looks a crucial one!

Geoff Foster R.I.P.

The Woods family are very sad to report that Northwood legend Geoff Foster died peacefully this morning after a period of illness.

Geoff joined the club in the early 1980s as a youth team manager and enjoyed a very successful time with his side, including winning the Middlesex County Cup. Alongside Ron King, Geoff took his side into the Allied Counties League at Under-18 level and again enjoyed plenty of success with players like Scott Fitzgerald, Kevin Dobson and John Parsons all coming through those sides.

Many members of the teams that both Geoff and Ron ran in those times, turned out for a game here at the club last April, some travelling many miles to be there as a mark of the respect that they had for the great man.

While also taking a role on the Club Committee as Vice-Chairman to Andy Johnson in the mid-80s, in 1987, he brought our current Secretary Alan Evans (his nephew) down to the club to “help out with the programme production” and he is still here 36 years later. Such were his persuasive qualities!

Geoff also had several long stints as Manager of the Woods Reserve team in the Suburban League and also occasionally helped out with first-team duties. He remained at the club as a regular supporter in later years before moving down to Dorset in retirement with his wife Christine.

Our thoughts at this sad time are with Chris, son Carl who lives in the US, daughter Marie who was of course our Club Physiotherapist for many years, and his grandchildren Eli, Meghan, Josh and Freya.

Funeral details will be announced when we receive them.

Forwards Daniel and Osaretin join the Woods

The Woods are delighted to announce the signing of two new additions to our squad with the arrival of Daniel Williams and Osaretin Otote.

Forward Daniel played for Uxbridge this season, after ending last term at Bedfont Sports. He played 27 games for Uxbridge, scoring six goals, including a winner against Walton & Hersham that his new club would have been rather happy about! He netted 14 times in 20 Bedfont Sports games last season. He has also played for Chalfont St Peter, Tooting & Mitcham United and Hendon.

Osaretin Otote, a winger, has joined Northwood from Waltham Abbey, and previously played for Barking, and Under 18 sides at Mansfield Town and Huddersfield Town. He has scored seven goals for Abbey this season.

Welcome to Daniel and Osaretin; we hope they have a happy and successful time with the Woods!!

Another game, another dodgy penalty costs Woods

The Woods were back in action this evening in a crucial top-of-the table Pitching In Isthmian League South Central fixture against Walton & Hersham - and for the second match in succession, the points were decided by a dubious penalty decision.

The teams were level at 1-1 in an engrossing encounter when the match official incredibly deemed a challenge on Sandro Costa in his own box to be a penalty to the visitors. James Gurteen had earlier equalised for Northwood, who could have gone on to claim all three points, but yet another questionable decision put paid to that.

A tale of penalties as Chipstead grab the points

It was a tale of penalties - one given, one not - as the Woods were defeated at Chipstead in the Pitching In Isthmian League South Central this afternoon.

On 55 minutes the referee awards a penalty to the home side after their striker fell over; this was converted but when Sandro Costa is floored in the box two minutes later, the man in black didn't want to know. And it finished 1-0.

The match report and photos are here.

Former Woods Annual Reunion Day will be on 25th March

We will be staging our annual Former Woods Reunion Day on Saturday 25th March when Northwood play at home to Westfield!

This is our annual invitation to everyone with a past connection to Northwood Football Club to come down to watch a game, reconnect with former team-mates, committee members and supporters, have a few drinks and a bite to eat.

The date has been chosen as it is on an international break weekend, it's actually Non League Day, so hopefully this date will suit everyone. It will be great to see some familiar faces and you will get to see the new stand that was put in place in memory of Pat Byrne from funds raised at his memorial game.

Please share the invitation with others, and send Secretary Alan Evans a message on 07960 744349 to confirm your attendance so we have an idea of numbers for catering etc.

We look forward to seeing you all!

Enfield Town are narrow winners in Middx Senior Cup tie

The Woods took a break from League football this evening, as they were in Middlesex Senior Cup action, taking on Isthmian League Premier Division promotion chasers Enfield Town in a quarter-final tie at The Skyline Roofing Stadium.

Northwood more than matched their visitors, despite Town taking an early lead. New signing Parris Mason levelled for Woods on his debut, but Enfield netted what proved to be the winner a few minutes before the interval.

Woods take the points with a 2-1win against Guernsey

The Woods got back to Pitching In Isthmian League South Central winning ways this afternoon when they defeated Guernsey 2-1 at The Skyline Roofing Stadium to complete a double over the Channel Islanders.

Gareth Chendlik opened the scoring and James Gurteen lashed in the second before half-time, but Northwood had a late scare when the visitors netted on 90 minutes, so the home side were relieved to hear the final whistle.

The match report and photos are here.
