Brad signs new contract

Northwood FC were delighted to secure the services of classy central defender Bradley Hewitt for a further year when he signed a new contract with the club last night. The 21-year-old spoke to other clubs after his previous contract came to an end in May, but has chosen to continue the development of his career at Northwood.

His performances last season attracted several Football League scouts to Chestnut Avenue. Brad now teams up with Michael Peacock, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at the club last season when with Conference South side AFC Wimbledon. Peacock agreed a contract a couple of weeks ago, and Manager Dave Anderson was absolutely delighted to finalise the deal, which will create a formidable and solid partnership at the back.

Help The Club weekends

The club is having two weekends during which redecoration to the changing rooms and other areas around the ground will be carried out. Like last year, we are appealing to all of our members and supporters to help where they can, even if only for a few hours: it really does make a difference. Food and drink will be supplied by the club on these days.

Please arrive any time between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm on Saturday 4th July, Sunday 5th July, Saturday 11th July and Sunday 12th July. It would be helpful if you will let Ian Barry know when you can help: ian.barry@sprintcoms.com. Last year’s turn out was more than disappointing, so it would be good to see some ‘new’ faces help out. It is good fun and adds to the Northwood spirit!!

Nominate your choices for Northwood's Hall of Fame

Woods Chairman Ian Barry is in the process of compiling names and photos of Northwood 'Legends' for a brand new piece of modern art for the clubhouse. He is looking for suggestions as to who should be in this ‘Hall of Fame’ with reasons why. Naturally, there are many players who could quite easily fall into this category from over the years.

Ian commented: “I thought it would be good to have a montage of Northwood’s players past and present who have contributed to the history of the club on the wall for all to admire. A tremendous amount of work has been done of late in respect of our history and I would be delighted to be able to have something in or around the clubhouse that will be a talking point for many years to come, in recognition of those who havehelped us achieve success.

"I have commissioned a company to do the piece for me and they have already come up with some great ideas, but ultimately it is for the club and its members to decide who they would like to see on parade when they come and see us. Similar pieces of work have been displayed at the Emirates Stadium and Wembley Stadium. Whatever the future holds for the club and myself, this will be my gift and I hope it brings much happiness and fond memories to all those who have been lucky enough to be called a ‘Legend’ and of course, those who also have a story to tell about our past.

"I would like to receive any suggestions and/or photos through the website or to me personally at ian.barry@sprintcoms.com and we will then decide who makes the final ‘cut’. With Alan, Ken and Andy’s help, we already have a draft star-studded list and are open to suggestions. I will be ordering the piece in a week's time, so be sure to send me your ideas before then. "When the new work is to be unveiled, all of those chosen to be included will be invited to attend on a special NFC Legends Night to see the art piece that I hope will be around for a very long time to come".

Mark Adams appointed reserves boss

Dave Anderson has today appointed Mark Adams as the club's Reserve Team Manager. Dave said that he is very excited by the new appointment - but was quick to thank Geoff Foster and Alan Carter for their great work last season: "Geoff and Alan came in at a difficult time and what they achieved in such a short space of time was fantastic - gaining promotion to the Suburban Premier Division.

"Mark certainly has a tough act to follow, but I am extremely confident that progress can again be made this coming season. I’m sure that we will again see players from the second string being given their opportunity in the first team: this is what Mark has been tasked to achieve, and I have every confidence in him".

Matchday Magazine rated the tops

At Saturday's Ryman League presentation dinner, Northwood were awarded Ryman Programme of the Year for Division One North. The other divisional awards went to Sutton United and Merstham.

Woods Matchday Magazine editor Ken Green commented: "The club for many years has been known for producing a good programme, so it is pleasing that our efforts have now been recognised by the Ryman League, following last year's award by Programme Monthly magazine. The Matchday Magazine is a real team effort, as we have a excellent group of contributors, and I am always grateful for their support."

Michael Peacock back with Woods

The club is pleased to announce that virtually every player who finished last season is to stay for the coming campaign. This includes the renewal of the famous central defensive partnership of Bradley Hewitt and Michael Peacock, the latter having signed a contract (pictured right), which is great news and cements the club’s ambitions to go one better than last season.

Manager Dave Anderson, speaking exclusively for this site, said: "The commitment shown by the players last season was fantastic and what was achieved in such a short space of time certainly ranks with my better achievements in the game. By the players showing the same commitment to the club for next season, I am confident that we can achieve even more next time around.

"Both the Chairman and myself are ambitious characters, and by getting that message across to the players shows them that Northwood is making strides forward. It says a great deal that Michael Peacock has committed his future to Northwood, despite more lucrative offers from clubs in higher divisions than ourselves. I hope that the fans come out and support us from the word “go” next season, starting with the game against Crystal Palace at the end of July”.

Suburban line-up confirmed

Following Monday night's AGM, Northwood Reserves will be playing in the Premier Division of the Suburban League next season alongside fellow promoted clubs Bedfont Green, Beaconsfield Sycob and Leatherhead. Croydon Athletic were a late withdrawal, leaving seventeen clubs in the Premier Division.

The full line-up will be: AFC Wimbledon, Ash United, Ashford Town (Middlesex), Basingstoke Town, Beaconsfield Sycob, Bedfont Green, Eastleigh, Leatherhead, Met. Police, Northwood, Sutton United, Three Bridges, Tonbridge Angels, Tooting & Mitcham, Uxbridge, Wealdstone and Whyteleafe.

As part of a trial, for the first-ever time, disciplinary actions in the Suburban League are to be administered by the Football Association rather than County FA's, which should end the worry about long suspensions as any ban will now be for a number of games rather than weeks.
