On Wednesday evening the Allied Counties side
pulled off a tremendous 5-0 victory at Oxford City, which brings winning the
Premier Division title for the first-ever time within their grasp.
An early Courtney Francis goal soon settled any
nerves and when Scott Purdue pressured a home defender into heading into his
own net before the break, it was a comfortable 2-0 half-time lead.
It remained that way for much of the second
half, as the Woods were happy to keep possession, but then a three-goal
blitz towards the end did the Woods goal difference no end of good. Aryan
Taj bagged two goals to keep up his recent run of scoring form and Jack
Bennett also found the target.
After the game came the news that Farnborough
had held title rivals Hayes & Yeading to a 0-0 draw and the two dropped
points means that victory at home to Bisley Sports next Wednesday will be
enough for Northwood to become uncatchable, despite Hayes & Yeading still
having three games to play.
With the League Cup Final against Maidenhead
United still to come and the County Cup already in the trophy cabinet, it
has the makings of unparalled success for Gez Reilly and Phil Hatcher's
side.
Next Wednesday's game against Bisley will be
one not to be missed. |
