The
Under-18s missed out on a chance to return to the top of the Allied Counties
Premier Division on Monday when they conceded a late equaliser at bottom
club Kidlington.
The Woods
made a sluggish start to the game but were still in control and it was no
real surprise when Aiden Lynam flicked on a corner and Courtney Francis
headed home at the far post to put Northwood in front after 32 minutes.
The lads
started the second half a lot more brightly but failed to take their chances
and Kidlington levelled when indecision from 'keeper Troy Roach allowed
Piers McGlynn to lob into an empty net.
After this
the Woods knuckled down again and on 78 minutes Man-of-the-Match Aiden Lynam
was tripped after bursting into the box and a penalty was awarded. Aryan Taj
stepped up to coolly slot home and at 2-1 it looked as if the points would
be returning to Chestnut Avenue.
Five
minutes later, home 'keeper Matt Hutton made a wonder save to prevent the
Woods wrapping up the match, though, and it proved to be decisive when the
last minute produced a scramble in the Northwood penalty area and a late,
late equaliser, Piers McGlynn getting his second of the match.
There was
no time to recover and with Farnborough losing 0-1 at home to Bisley Sports,
it was Hayes & Yeading United who returned to their familiar spot at the top
with a 2-1 defeat of Oxford City. |
