The Woods arranged a last-minute friendly at AFC Hayes on Tuesday night and enjoyed the better of the run-out by notching a comfortable 4-0 victory. The match also gave Dave Anderson the chance to look at a couple of triallists while Kyle Matthews also got another solid 45 minutes under his belt as he returns from long-term injury.

Up against an AFC Hayes side that included Lee Holland, expected to sign for them this week, and former Woods defender Rory Smith, Northwood were soon into their stride. After just 10 minutes, a cross from trialist Aaron Cato saw Leon Osei have a header touched onto the bar by the 'keeper and Kyle Matthews stooped low to head in the rebound.

Osei was nearly on the scoresheet again six minutes later as he broke through but the 'keeper pulled off a fine save low down. Northwood continued to dominate, though the home side did look dangerous on the break with striker Denilson Vicente showing some good pace.

The second goal came close to the break when Scott Orphanou played a neat ball through for Matthews and he slotted home just inside the post for his second of the game.

AFC Hayes looked for a way back into the game and did have a shot which skimmed the post soon after the restart but after 50 minutes it was game over as substitute Hugo Figueiredo raced onto a long ball from Mitch Swain and scored with a crisp shot across the 'keeper.

The Woods continued to dominate and pushed Chris Seeby up into a strikers role when Gary Burrell replaced Matthews. He caused a few problems but it was after young striker Stefan Khailat came on for his debut that they threatened goal again. Harry Smart went close with a shot which was pushed onto the bar by the 'keeper, Seeby saw his shot from the rebound well saved but then Cato should have scored from the loose ball but headed wide of the gaping goal.

Smart then had another effort turned onto the bar a few minutes later as the Woods finished strongly. With just a few minutes left, Khailat's trickery into the box saw him bundled over and a penalty was awarded. The youngster was given the opportunity to take the spot-kick himself and he duly slotted home the fourth goal.
