Good evening to you all and welcome to our Presentation & Awards Evening. I hope that you enjoy your short stay here in Bushey and I extend my thanks to the Met Police Club for allowing us to stage the event here again. I will say a few words during the evening as you will notice on the agenda, but I need to say a big thank you to Marie Scott from myself and us all at Northwood FC for organising the event; This, I know, has not been easy and has taken up a lot of her time. Thanks Marie! Well done to all of those who have 'won' awards this evening; you have worked hard in what you have done for the club and have been nominated for your outstanding achievements. Of course, we are a team here at Northwood and without all of you, there would be no club. During my short time here, we have had some battles; firstly to save the club, then stabilise the situation and now of course having achieved that, move the club to the next level. This does not just involve the First Team, this involves all of the club and those associated with it. We still have an immense amount of work to do to get us to where we want to be. Help and assistance is always needed and never more than now. If you feel there is any way that you can help the club or even just have an idea, no matter how small, then please let us know. I extend a very warm welcome to our Special Guest tonight, Paul Merson. Paul, as I am sure you will all know, played at the very highest level of the game. I have put together a brief fact-file of Paul's career, overleaf, which gives you some idea of his fantastic achievements. My thanks go to Paul for kindly agreeing to come along this evening and support our club and I trust that you will all make him welcome. Enjoy the evening and I hope to see you all next season. Up the Woods!
27 April 2007 There has been much speculation of late about the future of our Manager, Colin Payne. To end this once and for all, I can confirm that Colin and his coaching team will be staying with the club to lead us into our new era. At no stage have either the Committee nor myself ever discussed our future without Colin at the helm. He has the full support of the club and we hope to build on some of the performances in the latter part of the current season. We are all looking forward to the future, starting next season, which already promises to be quite exciting with our current crop of players.

It’s been a while
since I penned some notes for this site, though most of you will
hopefully have read my column in the programme, it’s time I updated you
on the comings and goings at the club.
Since Andy, Patsy,
and Yvonne have come back into run the bar and clubhouse, I am sure that
you will all have noticed a significant improvement in the overall
cleanliness and appearance of the club. Of course, we have now added a
brand new projector screen and carpet in the Function Room, along with
having it painted: this creates a room which we should be proud. All
that’s left to complete is to install some newer furnishings, and blinds
to cover the ‘ugly’ windows. These are ‘in hand’ - but may just take a
little more time. Let us not forget that we are not out of the ‘Woods’
financially just yet and I have to call on so many favours from people
to help the club and they work at ‘cost’ only. Hence, doing work this
way takes a bit more time but it will happen. A new Plasma Screen TV has also been installed in the main clubhouse, as I am aware there have been issues when functions are on and they coincide with football games which some people want to watch in the function room. Whilst it’s certainly fair to say that we cannot please everybody all of the time, where we can and it is financially viable to do so, we will accommodate requests if possible.
I should say, though,
it does amaze me when a few people have their ‘moan’ when they cannot
watch a game in the function room because it is being used. Surely, it
makes sense for us to hire out the room and get some much needed revenue
rather than showing a live game, when we have no idea in advance how
many will come to watch. So please, let's move away from the negativity
that we had when I first came to the club, and just take a small step
back and appreciate the efforts that have gone in by us all to get the
club back to where we want it.
We had a great Pool
Tournament organised by Charlie Phillips recently, we now have a
‘fund-raising’ night on the 28th April, and I really would
like all of you associated with the club, past and present, to come
along and show your support. We really do need it. It will be a great
night as long as you all come along and join in the fun. I have arranged
a comedian for 9.00pm and
On the pitch, well,
what can I say!? Colin, Fred, and Dave have certainly got the team
going, performances have improved dramatically of late, and we now have
a real chance of avoiding the drop. Please continue to show your support
for the team, starting with the game at home to Maidenhead United this
Saturday, kicking off at 3pm. We do play football the right way and
every game is entertaining.
There have been other
issues away from the pitch that I have just been made aware of, which
resulted in our members being unable to watch games in the clubhouse at
the weekend. I will get to the bottom of this and deal with the problems
that this has caused. I cannot say any more about this at the moment.
Our presentation
evening will be held at the Met Police Club in Bushey on the 11th
May. More details about that night we will be on this website soon.
I hope to see you all
at a game!
Up the Woods!

February 2007 News on the clubhouse re-decoration: as you will probably have seen, the walls in the clubhouse extension have been painted now and next week a new carpet will be fitted and shortly after that, new furniture. Obviously, this does not come cheap and there will be certain times that the extension will be out of bounds, with the idea being that by keeping it in a good, clean condition, it will be primarily used for our functions (of which there are many coming up). Of course, with the projector being in there, I would also like this to be the room used for those Sunday drinks we all used to have whilst watching the match on Sky Sports. Therefore, the small card schools that seem to have developed of late will be confined to the main bar area, if anywhere. In addition, we are currently looking for more and more functions, and my long-term ambition is for this room to be used every day for something. If any of you reading this wish to hire the room for any purpose, then please contact myself or the club direct and we will only be too pleased to help. There is a diary held behind the bar at all times, so checking availability could not be easier. I am also planning to have a "Chairman's Evening" once or twice a year, at which we will have a 3 course meal with a high profile After Dinner speaker from the sporting world to join us. I anticipate that we will also have an auction of Sports Memorabilia. This will be my chance to thank all of those people who dedicate their time and effort to the club, including our sponsors.
